Must be some pretty poor optimization, with those cards (980 and 290x) and how the game actually looks it's hard to understand drops below 60 fps

Just tried mine out, I've got a R9 290X.

I got Avg: 63.4 and Min: 51.5, this was using everything with highest possible settings except MSAA turned off as I can't see much difference and it helps significantly when it's off. This was also with DirectX 11, Mantles results were 55.9 and 47.6 respectively, so I'm not using that.

Sure here are some screenshots...

Like I said, I'm using the "Ultra" preset w/ MSAA off, using the Mantle API :

Here are my results :

Still, when I'm near the Crossroads in the Hinterlands, I'm getting huge slowdowns, like in the low 40s... so what I'm saying is that the benchmark isn't a real test of the power required to run this game at a stable 60+ fps. I'm guessing we'll need better drivers and / or optimizations through patches.

OK, I understand now, your on 1080p and I was doing 1440p. Makes perfect sense.

Just FYI, I just got a second GTX 980 and will do the next test on SLI with 5120x2880 Resolution with GPUs at stock. I'll be updating the reserved post soon.

  • i5 4690K @ 4.00 Ghz
  • Gigabyte R9 280X
  • 8GB DDR3 RAM
  • Windows 8.1

Everything set to Ultra like OP @ 1080p with 4XMSAA.

DX11:

  • Average FPS: 33
  • Min FPS: 30

Mantle:

  • Average FPS: 33.3
  • Min FPS: 29

Just keep in mind that the Benchmark is not actually representative of how the game plays, I get 12-18 FPS minimum in taxing areas with these settings. Also note that Mantle is absolutely rubbish for me as it stutters frequently while DX11 remains smooth. The key to consistent 60 FPS (god I can't tolerate anything below 55) for me is to keep most settings on High, turn off MSAA and turn off Tessellation altogether. I also turn off Ambient Occlusion because I dislike it (makes everything look dirty) and it gives me a nice free Performance boost.

I love technically sound games but I feel that something is holding this game back. For comparison, I get 50 to 60 FPS @ 1080p with all settings High with Very High Textures and FXAA in Crysis 3.

Reserved post.

Hi,

I am updating this because I said I was going to. Well here it is. It looks like Drivers and patches have greatly increased how well this game performs on this rig.

Let me know what you think.

Gave it a whirl. Mesh, Textures and Shaders were high, everything else was low or off. I know nothing of what is in the computer. Dust?

Anyways this was what it said afterwards:

Benchmark Results

AVG FPS 11,1
MIN FPS 9,2

With all on low it was

AVG FPS 14,2
AVG FPS 12,2

And during usual multitasking with mesh, text and shaders on high it was.

AVG FPS 9,7
MIN FPS 5,7

Smooth as butter.

I just upgraded my GPU.  Took out the two GTX 680s SLI and replaced them with two GTX 980 Ti OC, SLI.

Ran the Benchmark and average FPS at 107!

Time to play it again!

Ye gods. On what rig? I get about that on a dual-core Athlon with a 6670.

That's not much of a drop. you only dropped 8.3 fps for the whole benchmark. This goes to show that better hardware just gets you better results. I can attest to this myself. I was not having nearly the problems that other people were having just after launch and I suspect it is partly because my PC was brand spanking new when I started testing. That said, now that patches and updated drivers are out for the game, I got a nice increase in performance by just giving the game and drivers time to mature a bit.

For what it's worth:

RIG: Intel i7-2700K @ 3.5Ghz | Win 8.1 64-bit | Crucial SSD 256GB | Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB | Crucial DDR3 1333MHz 8GB | XFX AMD Radeon R9 380 4GB | Crimson 16.1.1

1080p, everything maxed out, but no MSAA

AVG FPS: 37,9

MIN FPS: 21,8

The benchmark tool doesn't even work properly on my PC. It just goes in super fast forward.

Dosen't on mine either but accordfing to Fraps which I boot up when taking screenshots I'm getting between 55-60 fps on mine so it runs smoothly enough in game. Looks great as well. Usingthe AMD FX8350 CPU and 2 4gb GTX770's SLI

Did some playing around last night. I've never really trusted the in game benchmark tool, but as a general guide I think it's OK.

Specs;

I7 4790k (factory OC)
16GB 2100mhz RAM
2 way SLi GTX 980 Ti (factory OC)
Windows 7

All effects (save for AA) set to maximum

1280x720, full MSAA - 79.5 min 145.6 avg

1600x900, full MSAA - 77.6 min 131.3 avg

1080p no AA - 67.8 min 131.2 avg
1080p full MSAA - 66.1 min 107.3 avg

1440p no AA - 58.4 min 97.3 avg
1440p full MSAA - 51.2 min 75.9 avg

4K no AA - min 36.9, avg 50.6 (this is the setting I play on)
4K full MSAA - 25.7 min 37.1 avg

My screen is 4K with a 60Hz refresh rate, so everything below 1440p/no AA is purely theoretical. There are still some issues with the game as I play TW3 at 1440p with AA and all other effects on max, except motion blur (because I don't like it), and seldom, if ever see drops below 60fps. I think it's more an issue with frostbite than anything else, and certainly doesn't make the game difficult or uneven to play.

I play on Ultra with 4xMSAA 1080p and get a steady 60fps with 2 GTX 970's.

Here's an unnecessary graphic :) I've been playing 200+ hours on 46 AVG FPS and I thought it was 60, but then I turned off MSAA

and it was SO much smoother. And I didn't even see a difference between no MSAA/2x/4x.

I also use this SweetFX preset and it drops my FPS about 5 or so.

you should be demolishing this game @1080p. I bet you are getting almost a steady 100!

[Edit] Was going to say "Wow that's amazing, how many GPUs do you have?" but I see you're on 1080p. Yes, I can see you are getting good playability with 1080p. What is that program that gives you that information in the image?
