Lets not beat around the bush here: Dragon Age games are supposed to be sexy. They're really the only non-anime themed name in sexy fantasy. Consistantly and right from the start, both Dragon Age: Origins and even it's regretable follow-up have represented as darn sexy games. You could even have silly fun with that sexy nature; like getting you and your entire temporary party naked, for no other reason than wanting too. That, oddly and perhaps to my discredit, was what sold me on DA:O when I first started playing it... there I am, some young noble fighting with his mother to defend the house from invading forces, and I was able to say 'screw it, lets all get naked', and strip the family down to the gitch. Awesome.

 

In this game, it's impossible to get naked. Or half naked. Or a third naked. Or even show a little bloody ankle. Strip your character down, and what do you get? Some full-bodied undergarment as if not more cumbersome than whatever piece of cumbersome armor you were just wearing. Seriously, wtf? When was Bioware castrated to the point that "No, no... underwear is too risque.... lets give them grandma's chastity-guarding sleep-wear." seemed like a good idea?!

 

Guys, come the hell on. Underwear patch please. Underwear patch NOW.

Lol...I felt...something vaguely similar but then I thought, well, now you can take off your armor in town and not be naked. So I don't think of it as censoring but just giving you some townclothes to wear by default. And it's pretty clear from other design decisions that the days of Morrigan and her bra/skirt combo are gone for the DA universe.

Not that being naked is a high priority of mine, in fact I haven't even bothered trying to take off my clothes yet...but given whats being stated in regards to it, it seems like BioWare is maintaining situational control of when and if there is any nudity at all.

 

Which is kind of like....okay, thanks Nanny. Appreciate you telling me when its appropriate to be naked.

 

Anyways with the LI spread being what it is, at least so far, I can't see myself caring too much even about situational control of nudity in the game.

 

DA:O had characters I really kinda fell for, like, not even trying to they'd just say things that hooked me and made me like them. So far Cullen lacks much in the area of personality, Blackwall is far too top drawer British WWI era officer, Varic isn't an option and Freddie Prinze Jr, is quite literally never attractive...it doesn't matter how many muscles his characters have or which game hes in.

 

So yeah I don't see the lack of nudity being a problem cause I've yet to be hooked by anyone that is demanding I remove my pants, this very instant....that I'd actually be motivated to do so for.

Sex scenes are sex scenes. Even if they go elbow-deep, it doesn't reduce the crucial value of casual nudity.

What point do sex scenes even serve, other than fan service perhaps, if there is absolutely nothing sexy about the people that could be in them. Theres this thing on the internet that already has that well covered, its called...pretty much all the porn on the internet. If I wanted to watch people I didn't feel any attraction to poke each other in special places....I can do that pretty much for free.

 

BioWare characters are kind of supposed to make me want to hook up with them...or one of them at least, if not several of them, in the course of a game...its kind of how these games are wired and...since DA2 that doesn't seem to have panned out so well.

 

So far, I can't say I find any hetero-normative options to even be mildly interesting, and I'm not even sure that the homonormative options are all that interesting but I'm not going to speak for anyone but myself in that area. (dear Bioware, please do not asterisk out homonormative...its really not saying the right things).

Not casual nudity, because thats a pervasive stupidity associated with Bethesda games, but nudity that serves a purpose that is based on the players current choices in the world., DA:I is supposed to be a role playing game. Not having the option to get naked and take a swim...because you want to, is...kinda ridiculous.

 

Plus you can't swim anyways...try, you make a "I died" sound and you get teleported back to the shoreline. At least in any water deep enough to attempt to swim in....most of the water in the game that is that deep is completely walled off and simply scenery, the rest of the water is literally no more than waist deep.

 

So yeah, can't get naked, can't swim.....this is a very different kind of role playing game.

I'm kind of okay with the trench coat though depending on whats going on, something slightly nicer would be good, perhaps attending a ball in Orlais requires something slightly fancier than whatever set of armor I happen to have slapped on during my nug smashing adventures in Ferelden.

 

To be honest I do like the armor design, I just detest RPG's that claim to be open world RPG's that control such basic things such as not being able to go skinny dipping if such seems to be a good idea for your character at the time. Granted you couldn't swim in DA:O or DA2 either, so I guess hoping for an improvement in that because DA:I is more "open world" than any game in the DA series has been was simply setting my expectations too high.
