Ok, so the 360 ethernet cable was about a foot too short to reach my 360 where it's set up (and there was no way to move it, so I just bought a bigger cable). Problem is, now that I have connected it to the internet, I was playing all of my games on a HDD based profile, and apparently Microsoft in all their wisdom don't have a 'CONNECT PROFILE TO XBOX LIVE' option, I simply have to CREATE A WHOLE NEW PROFILE. And ALL OF MY PROGRESS WILL BE LOST AND I WILL BE UNABLE TO IMPORT MY CHARACTER TO ME2.

This is immensly frustrating, because I sunk about 30 hours into getting my Shepard through two play throughs to prepare for ME2, specifically. And now, I have to choose between playing my ME1 character without any DLC bonuses, preorder bonuses, or Collectors Edition content, because that's all goddamn internet stuff, and to even so much as think about XBOX LIVE I have to create a new profile.

Is there any way to fix this cluster****, or should I just post the mail-bombs right now?

better get to playing me1 fast....look at it this way at least you know where everything is now right?

other than that i wish i had a magic wand, and if it makes you feel better i went from 20k+ gamerscore to 3k when i reactivated my gamertag for Xbox live multiplayer play and lost every achievment across about 12 games. MS and their infinite wisdom right?

uhm, you dont HAVE to create a new profile, you can just sign your current profile up for xbox live .... atleast thats an option on my xbox maybe yours is different ( older ) but i doubt it

i made my first offline profile a online profile, but just had to change the name of it because my offline name was already taken

I did not know that, I thought "Sign up for XBOX Live" creates a new account. Either way, I already have an old gamertag, but when I go to recover it, it says "any achievements made since you last used it on your HDD will be lost", and I'm assuming I can't just "merge" the HDD gamertag with the XBL one.

yes achievments will be likely be lost, but save games will not be touched, you can try it out with a second profile to be sure

make offline profile, then play ME 1 save after few mins, then upgrade to xbox live profile, if save is still there you can do it with your old profile if not then you might lose your save data

Yes, you can upgrade an offline account to Xbox Live. You need a Windows Live ID to attach it to (like a Hotmail or MSN account). Also, it will need a unique name, so if someone already has your name on XBL, you'll be prompted to change it. You do not need to make a new gamertag.

Edit: And as far as I know, there is no way to merge 2 different gamertags.
