This isn't a suggestion for BioWare, but for players that are new to this franchise and considering giving DA:I a shot. This is all my opinion, ergo you can take it or leave it. Other longtime fans can add their opinions as well. Your mileage may vary.
1. I strongly recommend you play this game on the PS4. I've seen some strongly worded complaints for the Xbox One. I've seen numerous complaints about PS3 and Xbox 360. And the most complaints have erupted from PC community - many of whom have requested refunds. (They've also - and quite justifiably - caught the attention of the developers. I'm rooting for you guys in the PC community.) It seems, in spite of EA's contract with Microsoft, DA:I gameplay is the best on the Playstation 4. I've also played the game on the 360 - it was not enjoyable, and that is an understatement. I switched to PS4 and the switch was extraordinary. The experience went from tear-jerking disappointment to incredibly entertaining (and addictive).
2. Play the previous games, as well as their DLC. If you would like to wait awhile before purchasing Inquisition, then you're in luck. The franchise has an exhaustive library of previous Dragon Age games and DLC. Each story ties into one another. Experiencing these games first hand will garner fluid familiarity with the characters, stories, and cameos in DA:I. Play the games in this order: Dragon Age Origins: Leliana's Song (dlc), Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age Origins: Awakening (expansion), Dragon Age Origins: Witch Hunt (dlc) or Dragon Age Origins Golems of Amgarrak (dlc), Dragon Age 2 (play "Legacy" dlc in any Act, play "Mark of the Assassin" in any Act, and "Exiled Prince" will begin in Act 1 on its own. Note: I prefer Legacy in Act 1 to ensure that my sibling tags along.)
3. Understand that this gameplay is different from its predecessors. It feels much like Skyrim but with far better characters, more beautiful graphics (on the right console), and those "staple" Dragon Age cut scene conversations. However, many conversations have been reduced to non cut scenes. It bothers some players because they are used to the older formula. I can't say I blame them. I was bothered at first, but twenty hours into the game, I don't even notice it anymore. I'm being fed plenty of cinematic conversations as the gameplay goes on. I think the game is just so huge that there is no way so much cinematic talking can take place. It would be something for the devs to consider in future DA games, however. Regardless, understand that each Dragon Age game is unique. This is a downside, but it's something players should know. Do not get used to DA:O gameplay, because DA2 will be different. Do not get used to DA2 gameplay, because Inquisition will be different. I do see combinations of the first two games in DA:I, but I see other elements from games like The Elder Scrolls etc. tl;dr - keep an open mind.
4. Opt for the Deluxe edition. I think the mounts, alone, are worth it. I love my red hart halla. It's only ten extra dollars.
5. Do not play these games solely for romance. It's a minor part of these games, and since not everyone's tastes can be met, there may be disappointment. The romance can be fun, but do approach it lightheartedly.
6. Lastly, as hypocritical and as ironic as this sounds: avoid these forums. Whether it's because you want to avoid spoilers or you want to avoid someone's negative spin putting a damper on your experience, just... do it.
7. Have fun.
