This is turning me off from multiplayer. I didn't find this out until I had already spent the ability point on an ability I have no room for-- and let's not forget I can't get the point back because you can't ****** re-spec.

I'm not sure if this is the issue you're talking about but - Yes, there are only 4 mappable ability slots in Multiplayer. If you've bought more than 4 abilities in your tree, lets say you bought 6, you can't map all 6 but you can map any combination of those six. To map an ability to your battle menu with a controller highlight the ability in the skill tree and there should be a button callout to map the ability to your battle menu. Its a similar process on PC.
