I am playing on the PC, and i am unable to exit the Ocularum once i have spotted the shards. 

I have to exit completely out of the game and get back in to continue to play.

Nevermind I was thinking of the Astrolabe looking thing.

Yeah this is the skull one. esc didn't work

Escape does work for me, as the other suggested.

I have not been able to find any other way to exit it though(Was very annoying to find out how to exit it the first time), will try some more things once I find another and see if there are other ways.(This might be a while before I get to another...)

I have had the game become unresponsive (to M&KB input) in the Ocularam, dialog options, and the war table. Bioware could have used several more months of polish before releasing DA:I I'm afraid...
