I actually loved his whole story. Really well written. The spoilers I read beforehand said that he was Fen'Harel and was apparently going to betray me. Well... they got one out of two right.
I don't honestly feel betrayed (except in love). He gave Corypheus the orb BUT helped save my life after I received the anchor AND had my back ever since.
Also, something which I feel I should point out: When you talk to him he never lies. It's my people this and I saw this in the Fade... but at one point he even says that "Oh, you thought I'd be upset because both she (Brialla) and I are elves. I honestly hadn't considered elves my people."
So yeah, I think he tell you stories of when the Elven Gods (who may have been real Gods or Immortal Elves) were alive and well... when he was part of the pantheon or the court... and when he traveled the world.
If you look for it... it's all there... spelled out in the clues. Listen to him talk to Varric or Cole. He doesn't sound like a mortal... even a very knowledgeable one.
He's also very respectful of the rituals in the old Temple of Mythal and appreciates it if the Inquisitor is as well... so I don't think he had any plans for murdering Flemeth/Mythal.
Also, if he wanted to absorb her essence, why wouldn't he want the female elven Inquisitor to be bound to him (through the compact of the Well of Sorrows)?
He's done many things he didn't have to which I believe were done out of genuine caring. Why else would he tell me the truth behind the vallaslin and offer to remove the blood writing?
My take on all this is that when he wanted to end the war between the Elven Gods and the Forgotten Ones (whatever these two parties may have originally been) he made a mistake. So maybe it wasn't the Maker that was banished from the Fade but all the Gods. And he wants the orb restored to power so he can summon the Gods back... instead, the orb breaks.
Here's a conversation with Cole/Inquisitor/Solas I found:
"Cole: Ar Lasa Mala Revas. You are free. You are so beautiful, but then you turned away. Why?
Solas: I had no choice
Cole: She is bare-face, embarrassed, and she doesn’t know. She thinks it is because of her.
Solas: You cannot heal this, Cole. Please, let it go.
Inquisitor: Perhaps Cole can get a better answer from you than I did.
Cole: He hurts, an old pain from before, when everything sang the same. You’re real, and it means everyone could be real. It changes everything but it can’t. They sleep, masked in a mirror, hiding, hurting, and to wake them…(Gasps) Where did it go?
Solas: I apologize, Cole. That is not a pain you can heal."
So yeah... the Inquisitor won, but the other part... that's tragic. ![]()
Edit: And from a very, very selfish perspective... screw all that. I could have helped him somehow. My elven Inquisitor was a mage of no small power. It's probably conceited to think she could be of any use with the anchor gone but I do think it. ![]()
