Basically I think I am stuck trying to do one of Cassandra's Romance missions. I've collected the candle and the flowers from Val Royeaux so the final thing on my list is this freaking poem book from Redcliffe. 

 

I headed up to the village searching the market stalls and trying to talk to the vendors but nothing...I literally cant find anything about poem books. I feel it must be yet another wonderful glitch because out of the three vendors only one will even engage in conversation and interestingly that person is a book seller...unfortunately all he wants to talk about is how he hates the surface and how its too bright for him.

 

So what the hell am i supposed to do with this quest? Is the book seller bugged? Do I have to talk to someone else that I am overlooking? If anyone has completed this quest can you tell me what you did to finish it because I am at a loss here.

Is that the dwarven bookseller? Because he wont say anything to me besides how much he hates the surface.

You don't talk to the merchants to buy things. You interact with their stalls/wares.

Definitely bugged. I'm at the stall and don't have the option to buy any poetry.

I'm one step further. I got to talk to him about it but someone ran off with the books. I track down where I'm supposed to go...nothing, tough the map is telling me the caravan of books is there. Apparently there's a glitch with this mission.

You're supposed to talk to him about it, if he doesn't say anything, it's bugged. You don't actually buy the book. 

 

 

If it's as you say, OP, I suggest reloading honestly.

I am also having this issue, I've reloaded the zone multiple times by travelling to other areas then coming back. I don't want to restart the game as I've put almost 30 hours into it so far

 

I'm on PC so maybe theres a console command to help me out, idk

Likewise. I really want to finish this quest but all I get from the dwarf is just that he needs to get used to the surface. I can't reload a previous save because of how much I did before I got to this point. Would really like help with this.

I was really worried i would have this issue, but thankfully i didint.

 

I didint had Cassandra with me (for obvious reasons) and i had previously purchased ALL books from the dwarven guy.

 

I went to talk to him and he started whining about losing a shipment of books, which contained a poem one.

 

Not really sure if that makes a diference, but there you go.

Try not having Cassandra in your party when you talk to the dwarf.

 

I just did this mission and it went smoothly, and I didn't have Cassandra in my party..

Bugged for me too. Justhe broke up with Josephine to Holla at cassandra too. That's what I get I 'spose. Guess I'll go have to make sweet bromance love with iron bull. but yeah a little salty, I have got about 40 hours clocked in and don't wanna restart. Please fix!

I had this problem as well. Reloaded a save prior to obtaining the quest and then it worked smoothly. Try that if possible.

I managed to get a little farther before it glitched on me. I managed to get the book and started the cutscene but then had that problem when it freezes before your dialogue options pop up and you have to skip to move forward until eventually it froze altogether and I had to shut the game off. Major fuckin tease.

@curtis - playing on PS4 so cant help with any console command

 

@kaedran - same thing happened to me even after i fixed the buggy quest giver - but it has happned on outher cutscenes as well.  game has been fairly buggy for me in general.

 

@Lifelyss  - The dwarf is on northern portion of the docks in redcliffe; right near stairs going up.  he is one of the "merchants" that actually show up on the map, the most northern of them.

You talk to the bookseller, and you should be able to ask him about a poetry book. This should lead to the bookseller talking about how bandits attacked a supply cart of his. This will give you a new objective to go to the cart, kill the bandits, and retrieve the poetry book. You don't have to buy the book itself.

Yeah that is how it is supposed to work, but for many (including myself) the dwarf would not say anything but one liners about how he hated surface life. I had to reload a previous save, retake the quest, and went to redcliffe first (before getting the other 2 items). On the second try the dwarf would speak and give me the follow-on quest. I lost 8 hours of game time because of the reload

I've heard that apparently talking to the dwarf before getting the quest causes the glitch. I never talked to him before getting the quest and I got it to run smoothly. Can anyone else confirm?

My game was bugged too NPC was not even there. I stood there for a good few minutes till NPC loaded and I was able to have a convo and progress the story.
