Don't plop any spoilers in because I've yet to play the game yet...but from what you've seen so far on harder difficulties, are balanced parties essential? Or is it possible to get away with a 3 mage+warrior team on nightmare/hard and not want to claw my eyes out?
So...to those who are playing.

I am playing the game on hard and I don't think balanced parties are essential as of where I am right now. There are on occasions enemy groups that can be handled best by specific roles. I encountered a bunch of tough enemies before and had to change my party to 3 Warriors including my character and a Mage to beat them. Most of the time my party has 2 Warriors, 1 Mage, and 1 Rogue, sometimes I even keep the 3 Warriors but I only keep the Rogue in case of locked doors or chests.
