From a fluff perspective?

Chief over a single rank and file Space Marines and Shephard, even a biotic Shephard.

Over higher end 40k characters? It's hard to say.

You forget that each Space Marine is equal to an army of ordinary soldiers.
Space Marines are just ridiculously overpowered.

Gordon Freeman would still win.

I am not going to dignify the Freeman comment, I have never understood what the attraction was with that guy....

Nonetheless Space Marines are ridiculous foes to be sure, their genetic engineering equipment and resolve make them incredibly lethal. They are at heart a fighting force however, your rank and file while highly flexible in a stand up fight simply can't match the near limitless flexibility, tactics, battle intuition and covert capabilities of MC, plus he is really lucky.

If you compare a Spartan and a marine (neither with the benefit of plot armor) then the marine wins. If you compare a spartan vs marine and the marine is favoured by the author then the marine wins. Same goes if the spartan is favoured by the writer.

So purely talking from a "technical" point of view the marine pwns the spartan.

Oh - and if you want to use the Dark crusade video as proof of marines being sucky. The Necrons are marines taken up to eleven. They havn't even started using any WAR equipment and have wiped out almost everything else in the galaxy at one time or another. Their "god" put the fear of death into every single living organism in the galaxy so yeah. Dying when fighting them is sort of expected.

Was talking about where they were aiming. And eldar > necrons in 40k lore. :D

Sadly the Eldar ain't really winning that fight.

From a purely "combat" point of view where hand to hand isn't allowed, the Chief would win because he has access to particle based weapon technology, and ME shields cannot block energy based weapons in canon. If hand to hand distance were allowed, Shep might have the advantage with biotics... but Shep is still an ordinary man. The Chief KO's brutes in hand to hand... and they weight half a metric ton. Chief would splatter Shep all over the place, but it's not like its a fair fight. Shep is like a really, really peak human being, whereas Chief has been made into a living weapon since age six.

Me said no hand-to-hand, so that makes them about equal. From a fluff perspective, then yes, those Spartans are supposedly god-like, like in that one Halo Wars cut-scene I saw on youtube, but from what we see of Master Chief in-game, I'd say they're about equal.
Now, if you wanna REALLY up the ante, you pit them both against a single WH40k space marine. ^^

nah Space marines are too light they need to take on General Creed for a good match :P

but seriously in a thorwdown between a space marine shep and Chief the Space marine would be the only one left alive in roughly what you guess 2 minutes?

The eldar had Millenia to kill the Necrons and still havn't done it. Then they all jerked off enough to create a new god that wants to devour their souls. So yeah - wouldn't say they own the necrons. infact the opposite since they are dying as a species now.

Shepard because I hate Halo lol.  Yes, I said it...I hate Halo. Not saying its a bad game (because its not) I just personally do not like it.

Not liking something and hating something are 2 entirely different words.

But Pedobear touches children. In inappropriate ways. We don´t want to let HIM in here, right? (HIM refers to pedobear, btw, not to the Band HIM)

You do realize that is a regular human marine, right?
This is more like it:

Though still unrealistic as that Sergeant is a little too strong for a regular human.

Tough call, soldier shepard vs MC, i think MC would come out on top. A shepard with some tech skills or biotic skills or full biotic, might have a shot if they are lucky. MC has several advantages over Shepard. He is huge, strong and fast. Has a powerful armor, has cortana (best A.I.) and MC has, according to the books and the games, a lot of luck. Then he has some disadvantages, he has never fought a biotic before.

Well, as a character, I'd say that Shepard is a much better character, but MC is simply over powered. We're talking about someone who can flip a tank with one hand. All he has to do is just punch people, it's stronger than almost any weapon he has access to.

Although, if the biotic or engineer Shepard could disable him from moving then I think he could win, but he's simply too powerful to be "out soldiered" without some kind of serious way to weaken him.

I am afraid I simply don't see any evidence of a marine (I assume you mean 40K space Marine and not "Marine" as in the naval military unit). Physically/Biologically they are more or less on par with a Spartan perhaps with a slight edge. The methods of training are highly different, Spartans are not trained as an en masse fighting force, they do not operate with set roles, fire support and support systems. I singular marine simply isn't trained to fight a singular warrior with those sorts of abilitys. Could a chapter of Space Marines wipe the alliance out in a weekend? Probably with time Nacho's and football.

Still one on one I have not read nor seen anything that makes a SM capable of taking out the MC.

Of course, in the game. We're talking about canon here, not in game. If we were really Master Chief according to the canon, in the games, we'd barely die and sprint at 40 mph and be able dodge rockets with our hands.
