I soldiered on with the same PC for six or seven years. I changed two weeks ago, partly for Warlords of Draenor, partly for Dragon Age Inquisition (well, as you might guess, I looked for a big game that would be released in the coming weeks, it was either this or Assassin Creed IV...)

I paid for, like, 1600 canadian for the admitedly overpriced PC that is there, that should have been able to run a 2014 game. I mean, it's 1600 dollars. How much you are supposed to pay to play PC games ? 3000?

DAI made the rig crash three times before I was out of the intro. As I can't afforc to buy a new PC to play it¸(or that I live in terror that constant crash damage a machine I waited seven years to purchase), congrats Bioware : the game is uninstalled.

20 minutes. 1600 dolars. That's a new record.

I built a computer hoping to run this game in ultra and honestly it's struggling so bad on medium to high settings. Everything's updated so I have a feeling the game isn't that we'll optimised. :/

Not sure if they could patch some sort of fix for this or what but something should be done. I get good frames somewhere and then when I turn around or something it starts lagging. I'm playing on the auto settings now and it's still lagging. Something's really up.

I run the game on ultra. Lowest fps I get is 45 but probably averages anywhere between 60-70fps. It's definitely poorly optimized considering how powerful my PC is. Most of the problems lay with the GPU drivers though. Nvidia released a driver that gave it barely 3% performance increase. They'll probably be releasing another one soon that will give it a significant boost. Only other issues I've had is the known stuttering with cut scenes since it's locked at 30fps but you can use a temp fix for that.

If it's crashing your entire PC as in shutting it off then that's a hardware problem that has nothing to do with DAI. Blame the makers of your PC or whoever sold it to you not Bioware. The only thing DAI is doing is exposing a problem that was inevitable to show itself eventually.

I was not even playing on f... ultra, I was just playing on high. And don't worry, as I'm obviously not worthy enough to play Bioware games, I already uninstalled it.

Howdy,

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues. I don't know if this helps at all but I'm going to refer you to http://forum.bioware...unity-concerns/. If anything it allows you to be a little more informed on whats going on with PC happenings.

Thanks♥

Post specs.

First if using Nvidia cards and have two in SLI mode. Set for single card for DA:I. Also use latest drivers. Using AMD cards use latest Beta driver which is 14.11.2 beta. Also switch from DX11 to Mantle in setting of game. Is your power supply up to powering your system properly? If you have 8g system memory this game will use nearly all of it.

I just replaced my Nvidia 770's with a single MSI 290X Lightning and can easily run this with everything cranked to absolute max now. CPU is i7-4770K, 16g system memory

I am running the game with all settings on high using a 5 1/2 year old computer with a 2 year old graphics card, and I am not having major issues.  I did have one crash to desktop, which oddly enough was at the war table.  I would suggest that you might have something wrong with your computer (have you tried any other newer games?) because your experience is not typical.

No offense, but a software crash can't damage your computer, so I would not worry about that, if there's any damage it probably happens to data, and even then that's not really important, at least not unless your computer was writing something important. I still haven't bought the game, still waiting on some things, and I'll probably wait until they fix these issues. Probably better just to wait anyway.

Do you guys have Nvidia cards? I built my computer a couple years ago, but it's running the game on high settings with none of the issues that people are reporting. I use an AMD card, though, and I've heard that Frostbite is slightly better optimized for those.

To the OP: it is very, very unlikely for a game's instability to cause problems for the computer itself, so don't worry about damaging it. :)

GTX 760 MSI TF OC and an I5-4570K

I get 18 FPS on high and like 30 FPS on lowest settings.

I  honestly think I should be able to run it on high and get like 40-50 at least....

Yes, yes, keep saying you have computers that run the game with the third of those specs. That's helping. I would give 3000 ****** bucks to get ONE time a computer that can run a game of the year without making me suffocate with rage.  (once again, with only high specs, and not caring about FPS...just wanting it to work...)

But no. Its asking too much. I'm back to 2004 Warlords of Draenor and Civ 5. I only paid 1600, I'm too cheap.

I have a GTX Titan (the card itself was $1,000 at the time, the PC build close to $3,000) and I get 25 - 30 FPS in the Hinterlands on Ultra, and during some cut scenes in the tutorial I was getting 10 FPS.  I get 55 - 60 in the Hinterlands if I turn everything down to Low.

There's definitely a problem with the game.

This has been my experience as well, I am running an old Intel 920 i7 with 12 gigs of RAM using a nVidia 560 Ti, I had the game crash once just after combat in The Hinterlands, but another application crashed at the same time and that piece of software has crashed in the past taking other applications with it as well.

The problem with any of new release of a game is the drivers are always lagging behind and when they release updated versions of them wonders happen with the games, heck even updating with the Day 1 drivers fixed most of my issues with the game.  The only one I am having is like an above poster mentioned if I move quickly the game drops framerate madly, but I am wondering if that is only because I am overloading my video card.

I have very similar specs to you and can run the game well on a mix of high and medium settings. I get around 40-60 Fps most places.

It's possible you have a hardware issue, are you using the latest nVidea drivers?

What is the actual error number you are getting?

There's no reason to just give up and 1 small thing might fix your issue.

How it can be an hardware issue ? The computer is TWO WEEKS OLD. I used it to play WOW and CIV.

First off, there is nothing wrong with your PC specs. You can stop acting like the game demands that you get some $3000 super computer in order to run it.

The first thing you should almost always do is update your drivers as others have mentioned. Even if you installed them only 2 weeks ago still update them. Nvidia has released new drivers since DA:I came out to help the game's stability and performance on their cards.

Also if by any chance the game is actually giving you an error message of some sort when it crashes, you should post that.

If you want less hassle, buy a PS4 seriously.

PCs with all the configurations can be a pain for everyone.

Hardware is driven by software, especially drivers.

I'm having freezing issues on my PC - but I am not gonna uninstall a game because of it.

Especially not a story driven game where I can roll a voiced character.

It will get sorted out eventually.

Games at launch from many studios often have a range of issues.

Go engine-search Total War Rome 2 or AC Unity if you doubt it.

2600k @ 4.6

8GB DDR3

970SLI

Just at the start of the game and have been fooling around with settings.. on 344.75 atm and find that its really poorly performing. I was on 344.47 prior and found that with those drivers, performace was actually better.. not sure how.

But in any event, normal play isn't terrible, but even with higher framerates at times 60-70, it still is not that smooth..

Cutscenes however are the worst.. I get constant stutter every second or so.. not at all smooth, and just crap.

Turn down the effects from high to low, ZERO difference. I don't understand this.. do these in game controls even work?

Also, if I turn off SLI, naturally my framerate plummets, and yet cutscenes are still stuttery..

No other game has issues like this one, so I'm pretty much convinced that the game needs a patch and nvidia needs to release an improved driver and sli profile.

I will reserve my judgement untill such time honestly.. but even still, its hard as F because I would love to play this game in all its glory, otherwise I'd never had dropped the $ on 970s. They are way too strong to only be getting 50-60 in some areas in SLI.. just no.

Cutscenes are locked at 30 FPS which is probably why they don't look that smooth if you're used to getting 60 everywhere else.

Also if you're running MSAA I'd recommend turning it off for now. It seems to have a habit of tanking your framerate while offering little visual improvement, even on top end cards with SLI.

I don't have the vid card you do.  Just an average 660GT and not SLI either.  Every cutscene has been smooth.

But then I'm just running MSAAx2 but most textures are set to ultra.

Edit: Ohhh - you're a 60FPSer.

OP sounds like you may have bought a prebuilt computer.  You could also be having software conflicts with all that third party nonsense they load on them.  760's aren't the most powerful card either honestly it's a budget gpu, but you should be getting better performance than you are.

It crashing likely has very little to do with how perful your PC is. I'm very low spec for this game and have had zero crashed.

Biggest things it could be are overheating, driver conflicts, HDD issues, a process running that interferes with the game or a second monitor causing hysteria. I never have crashes, ever, and the way I achieve that (in my opinion) is keeping a super clean PC. Nothing I don't need is installed, everything is off when I play games, driver sweeper, defrag, CCcleaner and the rest are run frequently.
