This is my first time playing this series and I have been playing about 3 hours on nightmare and love it. My question is....did I choose the right class? I went with a mage. I am debating on restarting and going archer.....suggestions?

Thats a very very personal decision, there is no "wrong class" they are all fun and specialization can even add more depth not to mention wich skills on wich tree you go for.
Since you didn't say anything about what you arent liking you are probably just in the "i wanna see what other classes do" urge. Imo, just keep playing and simply control one of your companion and test them out, once you are in level 10+ test em all again with their specializations and then you can just keep going or reroll.
Keep in mind, this is a game where you can do several times the whole game, just leave the rerolling for simply changing class for that time imo.
PS. Theres an item you can buy near the blacksmith stations for 1g then for 300 something gold that respecs your points. Test stuff out.
