....And yet you don't have a problem with the female elf.

Of course not!

But I stand corrected about the Tolkien elves.

I don't think "more body builds" is an unreasonable request. You could easily have the choices be between this, slightly bulkier, and Fenris style elf and maintain the same height for cutscenes and stuff.

I honestly think that the fact that there are four races to choose from to start with limits that.

If you want to play someone small and pretty, you play an elf. If you want someone tall and extremely muscular, you play a qunari. If you want a normal-sized person, you play a human. If you want someone short and stocky, a dwarf. That's really all there is to it.

That's not all there is to it. If you only play a human then you don't experience what it would be like to be a minority in the world of Thedas.

He looks thinner than me and I'm a small 93 lb female. I can't imagine how a man that slim is even strong enough to fight. The shoulders are so small and narrow and his head seems too big for his body.

I guess all the male elves have eating disorder. What a shame.

I guess they could have added slightly more muscle tone, but I suspect they keep the same body across all class types for cutscene efficiency or something. It's still not something that makes me cringe; it's like the Tolkien style elf build.

Personally? It bothered me that my mage Hawke looked like he could wield a great sword. And even DAO elves looked a little bulky imo.

That never bothered me because Hawke was a farmer, which would involve a lot of physical labour therefore it made sense to me.

The elves are a little too lanky.  Just a little more..muscle tone would go a long way.

I was all set to be a male mage Lavellan until I saw how scrawny and underfed he looks like and I decided to go with male mage Trevelyan.

This is why we need some form of body slider. It does not have to be super advanced but it would sure be nice to alter your weight and your height a little bit.

It is even worse for the lady elf. Their body looks like Gollum with boobs. Okay it is not as hideous as Gollum but it is really skinny.

I cannot for a moment imagine how on Earth is an Elf going to become a warrior of any form.

We can have slender and petite people without looking underfed. Just look at the Bretons and Bosmer of Elder Scrolls. They are shorter and skinnier than their respective elven and human counterparts but they do not look underfed or scrawny.

It's not a huge problem for me - but I'm pretty convinced the male elf model is just the female elf model with shrunken breasts. Compare side by side and you'll see what I mean.

Toned, yes, but not warrior buff.

It was kind of weird to see all these merchant and commoner NPCs all with the same body type, too.

No one is asking for barbarian elves, just ones that look like they could swing a greatsword.

Considering the Greatswords in DA would weigh less than ten pounds, the Male Elf meets your criteria. Just saying.

I do not know why Bioware did not just use Solas as a reference for male Elves. Though from a certain viewpoint I can see why they decided to go with this design for the Elves

Massive spoilers inbound. Do not click if you do not want to !

Spoiler

Still, I will be going with mage Trevelyan.

Solas would be a great example of how slender can be done right. If my inquisitor had the same body shape as Solas I wouldn't have a problem. A little bulkier than Solas and I would be happy.

I gave some reasons why they might not have gone with a Solas body type.

I haven't beat the game yet. Are you saying the reason for all other elves being scrawny compared to Sola's is that he is a different race of elf?

The clipping and animation of different models isn't a good argument for not having different body styles. You could have had an elf with a human physique but made him or her smaller, for example. Then he or she would just wear rescaled human armour. By the same token you could have allowed humans to chose either the elf or Qunari physiques to provide different alternatives. The animations and models are all in the game already.

I rolled a male elf and I like it. My inquisitor is a younger man (maybe 17) so the youth and skinniness isn't necessarily out of place, especially if you consider some of the clans of elves are essentially hunter gatherers, so they may not necessarily be the most well fed.

I know many don't like it, but I do. Just a dissenting voice.

nope, its because Solas is Solid Snake in disguise, you gotta admit its much better than a cardboard box

Had to stop playing my male elf because he looks like an under developed middle school girl. Don't understand the design choice with this one. I really wanted to play one eventually but i don't think i ever will or i will be forced to play a female.

Also would have liked a male Qunari who was slightly less beefy.

Yeah I was bummed out about this.. I was playing a elf Mage for about 10 hours and it just didn't look right.. I was like nah. Made a male human, 15 hours in and haven't looked back.

The word you're looking for is "wiry," not scrawny. I like their look!

They do look very slim, I made a Male Elf Mage. I'm about 2 hours in and the main thing I am disliking is the body type. It's a little on the skinny side, I'm tempted to start again as a Human.

Does anyone have any screenshots of Male Elves in Mage robes? That would help my decision.

I like being able to finally play as someone who isn't a hulking lump of muscle but it is a bit much, especially for the females. Tbh though, I am not massively fussed at least their proportions are a little less wrong looking in this game, they look stick thin this time but not deformed like they did in DA2.

I don't mind them being skinny, lots of people are skinny. I hate te choice to make their shoulders so narrow and their head big in comparison. My adult male elf has the shoulder span of a 5 year old but with an adult's head on. I pick armies that hide this or give him a better silhouette even if that means they're weaker but the sky hold outfit leaves everything on display :( it makes it even worse because Solas and Sera have unique bodies with normal shoulders

Male and female elves are creepishly skinny in DA 2 and DAI.  They weren't too bad in DAO.
