Meh, I find both male and female elves too scrawny to fight. Their build looks reasonable enough on mages, but I can't take warriors and rogues seriously. Not that female humans are much better. Bioware has a thing for invisible shoulders and noodle arms on women.
Swordsplay is more about technique than raw strength, but some strength and endurance are required. You end up bulking up anyway if you train at least a couple of hours every day, even if your nutrition is all over the place.
Male Elves are so bloody Scrawny! Ew...

I think both male and female elves in DA:I are a bit too thin. I can't imagine one swinging a greatsword, it'd tip them over.

Male elves are scrawny? Good. I'm tired of playing as buff meatheads for every single male character ever. It's actually one of my biggest pet peeves about Bioware's games: that I can't make my male character more skinny.
Dragon's Dogma let me make the character I've been most happy with in any game I've ever played. He was as skinny as a stick, and I appreciated that option.

For the record, two-handed swords aren't that heavy. For comparison, I'm 6'1 and 128 pounds. I've never been tipped over by a claymore before, so I doubt my elf, who looks like a smaller version of me, would fall over with one either.

I don't mind them being skinny, lots of people are skinny. I hate te choice to make their shoulders so narrow and their head big in comparison. My adult male elf has the shoulder span of a 5 year old but with an adult's head on. I pick armies that hide this or give him a better silhouette even if that means they're weaker but the sky hold outfit leaves everything on display
it makes it even worse because Solas and Sera have unique bodies with normal shoulders
I do not understand why we could not have had a build more like Solas and Sera. ![]()

I'm afraid it doesn't really bother me that a non human race doesn't have human body proportions. Granted, in an ideal world they'd probably have a unique fighting style suited to their physique, but that's asking a bit much of a game.

I actually like that they are not just humans with pointy ears.
Certainly they could look distinctive and thinner than humans without looking so absurdly scrawny that they look ill.

Agreed, most regular weapons were pretty manageable. Strength and endurance help fight more efficiently and for longer though. While they're not directly proportional to size, training for strength and resistance usually causes an increase in size as well.

Couldn't agree with you more, and its frustrating me as well as many others without a doubt :/ My fingers are crossed in hopes that this is a bug or a glitch to be fixed in the next patch. Otherwise I'd be forced to play as a human inquisitor.. or wait for a mod to fix the pc elf model..

Just saying. I'm personally insulted to be regarded as 'less of a man' because in real life I am probably as skinny as elves. Actually insulted by this whole thread.
Also; get over it. Elves are skinny and it's been decided since DA2, maybe when they add body sliders in the future that might change but whatever. Not all power comes from being bulky. Granted I'm not playing an elf because I personally hate being as skinny as I am. But it's a body shape and believe it or not it's still healthy to an extent, and since we're all in acceptance of everything now, accept this.

Thats not an elf though. Thats a small dehydrated human using a mild vasodilator like aspirin, with < 2% body fat.
Not this scrawny dude... V
Thats pretty much what BioWare has always translated "non-heroic" Theodosian elves to be...pretty much just like the guy above. Even the heroic ones, since DA2, have suffered the curse of the "Re-Envisioning".

I'm going back to Leliana's remark that people find elves pleasing to look at. I could well understand it in Origins, they're kinda cute, but since DA2 I have to question the good pople of Thedas and their aesthetic preferences. Improving the elves was one thing I was looking forward to in Inquisition. Is there no-one at Bioware's animation department who can see the problem (or see it as a problem, if you will)?

I'm honestly sorry you were insulted. I totally accept that elves in the world can look scrawny, as should some humans. I just think a warrior elf who is the most elite warrior of the most elite military organisation in Thedas should have the option to look like he won't lose to a child in a fight.
Its hard not to come off insulting if that is truly your body shape. But I don't think you are expected to fight a dragon with a sword and shield. I accept that body type as a real thing in the world, I do not accept that someone of that build could be an MMA fighter.
As a side note, I totally have a problem with female Hawke's body as a warrior. Cassandra is a muuuch better example.

Not all of us who dislike the male elf bodies do so because they are thin. I dislike them because they look deformed an out of proportion. Their shoulders are narrower than their ribcage which causes their arms to stick out at an odd angle as well as clip through everything. I like that he's skinny, I just don't like the weird build.
For those who mentioned it before: he totally does have breasts with his shirt off (I thought it looked like they tried to do pecs with the shirt on but when he's topless they're definitely not the right shape.
