I was really looking forward to playing a male Lavellan, but seeing how thin elves look (not just the males) I'm not sure I'll be able to enjoy that playthrough.
It's been well-established lore wise that elves are supposed to be attractive to humans. Err, pointy eared people who look like underdeveloped teenagers are supposed to look hot to human thedosian? If the answer to that question is 'yes' then there's something really wrong with the humans in Thedas.
At least my warden looked like a hot adult man, instead of a tall child with the head of a (maybe, depends on how you build them) grown up pasted on.
I want to like the elves, I really do. I also really wanted that Lavellan playthrough (which I'd planned as my main playthrough, actually. I'd hoped the elves would revert to a more DAO like state rather than staying DA2 icky looking with the exception of companions, of course), but in a lot of screenshots of elves I'm disgusted by the thinness of their bodies. In some screenshots the body width (usually when they have armor on that makes them looks wider than they are) looks almost acceptable... but then you see what they look like in the casual outfit in haven/skyhold and shudder.
Also, I know there are people with slim bodies in real life. I know people like that and I am such a person, but the elves in this and the previous game take it to 'this person looks like a skeleton with skin pasted on' levels. Anorexia is not sexy, people.
*sigh* I really want to play one, but the bodies! I really enjoyed playing elves in DAO. In fact, most of my DAO playthroughs are elves.
I'm really hoping for a miracle mod or a benevolent dev to fix this.
'kay, done ranting.
The bigger issue is that Bioware's depiction can lead to a very unhealthy body attitude among young men who play the game. In an effort to be more like the heroes they play then may very well develop eating disorders. We should not be presenting such an unhealthy image to young impressionable players.
Yeah, but here's the different, and I do hope your post is sarcasm, elves are not human. Elves are not human and have different body types than us.
I like the way the elves look in DA, always have. There is something kind of neat about their alien looks that do set them apart from humans. I like that alienness to them, its what draws me to them.
Dragon Age, and other BioWare games for that matter, are not exactly a bastion of strict adherence to anatomy. There's always a bit of a cartoony element to the way these characters are designed, so I don't see why elves would be a particular standout. Look at the qunari in DA2. Bas, do you even lift?
The elves look fine to me.
Elves are too scrawny! Qunari are too beefy!
What next? Dwarves are too short?
Just roll a human for Christ sake if you can't take anything other human proportions for different races.
Hey! I like skinny elves!
And I wish people would stop talking about body sliders. It's them or romances.

Exactly this.
Let me make a comment. I wanted to make another point when someone said that elves teach boys about body image. So does that mean Shepard and male humans teach boys to be muscular men?
I know people, even myself, who are as skinny as the elves. Just born that way. And so I think its fair and okay.
@Nefla: You have a CC it's up to you to make your elves otherworldy.
I wished we had elf models true to the tarot card art we are shown at the character creation, folks get disappointed when we see something far out different in the game when we were expecting what we see on the tarot card art (Pic.1) Or maybe they should've just stuck with the pre-release elf models (Pic.2)

their bodies will always look the same, 95% human but with a hint of wrongness that makes it seem like an amateur anatomy mistake. Their faces will alway look human (or freakish human like ugly Shepard) there is not enough leeway there to make something completely new. You just end up with a deformed human with pointy ears rather than the dreaded beautiful human with pointy ears.Exactly this.
