So many problems with this camera, constantly getting stuck on rocks for no reason, this isnt a character the camera should be able to go anywhere. Plus you cant look up at all, i had a particular battle where enemies are up on a hill and no matter how i controlled the tactical camera i could not even see them, they were too high to see and the camera got stuck on the rocks on the hill.

please unlock this camera, make it free flying or something, i cant play without it because the AI is dumb as well, so its kind of essential

It's an example of the limitations of the console control system.  That ground cursor is basically an invisible character the console needs to have move around so the camera stays focused on it.  It allows you to select enemies or companions or pick spots on the ground to move to.  Why is it like this?  Because there is no mouse to select with on consoles, thus it's a dpad function that must be present otherwise you would not be able to do anything during combat.

And now because Bioware likely wanted to save resources, the pc version is forced to have it as well, changing the entire combat control scheme around this useless functionality.  Even though we have a perfectly usable mouse cursor ready to select anything the ground cursor can select, sitting there doing **** all.

Awesome!

Yep basically the point above--something like that is completely inexcusable and most definitely not accidental. It's basically willful crappy design.

Saving resources on actual control mechanisms. Smart move!

I do my best to try and ignore the consoles and enjoy my gaming on the PC, but no matter what I do, their presence continues to negatively affect my gaming.

At least I won't have to worry about that with Star Citizen.

I think this is something that will be somewhat fixed; I play on PS4 and it works great for the most part, but sometimes it gets stuck around a rock corner, you have to wiggle a bit; or you lock on target (I think TAB on KB), and go from there.  I can look up, so definitely a patchable problem on PC.

It is a good mechanic, but I think PC players got a raw deal that will be fixed.  This, and I think DW rogues will be adjusted; other than that, the game will stay as is except for the obvious bugs (frames, crashes, KB layout).  PS4 (and I imagine XB1) seem to be the best places to play right now until all is fixed; I wouldn't hold much hope for last gen consoles though.

You could actually play and complete DA:I using just the keyboard and no mouse that's how badly Bioware fucked us over! So much for their PC is always the 1st priority BS! I can't wait for Witcher 3, atleast there's a company you can still trust in their devs!

About the invisible character thing, something ticked me off from another Frostbite game that was recently cancelled - Command and Conquer. I'd think that they could cobble up the code from the camera there and modify it to work with Inquisition, but I don't exactly know the specifics of how the system works.

On the other hand, I feel that they are pretty locked on tight with a design system that caters to the general system. When you're designing something that needs to work on multiple systems, you can minimize cost designs by making sure that all systems have the base thing that can work. The more I'm looking in the situation, the more I'm thinking that they did have a plan, and that is to create the necessary abstract commands that can be wired to a control scheme, accounting for the lowest denominator. I think they do have a problem with scaling up, but otherwise it -is- workable.

I keep seeing comments from PC players that the tactical camera was designed for console controllers and thus it sucks on PC with kb+m. I can say that as someone playing on Xbox One that it is just as bad with a controller. It's just a frustrating, clunky combat system. I end up having to resort to the cartoonish button mashing of the "action" mode because of all the tactical camera issues. Ugh.
The rest of the game has been fantastic, though.

I don't know how it works on the PC, but on the PS4 you can just cycle through enemies by clicking one of the analog sticks (I think the right one).  This will let you cycle up to an archer standing on a hill or among the rocks without all the terrain drama.

Eh?  I don't understand.  I never said it was ideal, but its definitely better than not being able to target them at all.

This isn't about targeting. This is about moving the camera.

Targeting is done with the mouse. That big reticle on the ground underneath the tactical camera doesn't appear to do anything other than get stuck on terrain and be unable to jump or climb ladders.

So it's about character movement then?  Wanting to put your archers on the hill and such?  I thought it was about seeing/targeting enemies in hard to reach places.  That's what the OP stated was his specific problem.  If you cycle up to the enemies on the hill, the camera automatically moves up there, and you can then move it around the hilltop (including to tell your characters to move up there).  The only instance I can see where this wouldn't be a fix is if there were no enemies on the hill to target at all and you just wanted to relocate someone to that location.

If there's no cycle feature on the PC, obviously this won't work, but it does help solve the reticle getting stuck on terrain on the consoles.

I definitely have trouble if a rift is up too high, I can't seem to get the camera to be where I need it to be! Like it only zooms out a certain amount, so I have to guess where the rift is.

Why use the cam for the rift?

In fact TW2 control scheme is point and click as TW1 was isn't it? Even more TW2 control scheme works well and it is responsive even after all this time, isn't it?

If you would apply the same bias you have on Bioware on CDProjekt then TW3 will surely be a complete crap of a game since the company obviously screwed over their fans on the last title. Yet it isn't so, guess why...

And please don't even try to insist that the world of TW2 is better than the one of DA:I or the characters or the story because that's hopeless. When the control scheme of DA:I will be fixed then, it will be 100 times better than the control scheme of TW2 (that completely sucked and sucks still) and yet naturally Bioware is evil while CDProjekt is da best.

Oh well, objectivity for the win.

Can't see it in regular cam?

Specifically the Level 12 rift in the Hinterlands by the horse farm.

If I accidently approach from the wrong direction, I'm forced to stay on the ground under the rift and it's so bloody high that no matter which camera I'm fiddling with, I can barely see it. I was in tactical view because of the pause button...

I am playing on the xbox one, i dont expect the ground cursor thing to be removed but it should be able to move over rocks, fences, random little thing that it should not get stuck on. someone said you can click the sticks to cycle through enemies, thats nice but for some reason it also decides to cycle through all the passive widlife first, so sometimes you can have to click several times just to even get to an enemy.

I'm not sure that cycling through enemies works on PC (it's Tab by default). Either it has a maximum range and I usually engage outside it, or it is simply broken. And even if it works as intended (which I've yet to experience), it doesn't help with party movement, it only lets you command them to attack.

Are you sure this isn't a problem with the Frostbite engine camera?
