Will doing all Hinterland sidequests over-level me for main quest?

I really wish they set some boundaries, though. Okay, I get it that a level 12 dragonling is not for my level 5 mage. But heck, I move down the path to pick up some elfroot, and then bam - a dragonling jumps out, fries me, and in seconds my whole party dies, I'm supposed to open a save from ten minutes ago. Not cool. Same with level 8 bears. The only warning I get - Cassandra saying "be careful" before a camp of level 8 bandits. Nobody even mentioned the level 12 dragonling.

That, and casual difficulty is not casual enough. I played HM ops and fps at SWTOR, I'm okay with hard, but here I want things to be easy, like ME3 casual - I want to be picking stuff while my companions fight. Instead? I nearly died at the end of the tutorial.

It is a great touch that you get warnings from party members though. They didn't need to do that. Varric even once warned my Inquisitor to be careful going down a steep cliff. I learned pretty quickly to heed their warnings!

The reason im trying to finish up all the quests is because i am afraid they are time-dependent and would have effect on my inquisition eventually. i mean u cannot let those refugees starve for ages right? but i am nearly 21 hours and have not even make my first choice. i'm just gathering companions and agents all over and it's cool!

They aren't time dependent, and seriously move on until you at least get Skyhold, so much more stuff opens up that you can do and use, like specs, or focus powers

...I expect this area to be scaled to me.

I expect Lupita N'yong'o will break my door down and demand I satisfy her every licentious whim. Let's see whose expectation is fulfilled first!

Alternatively, they could play how they want to play. I think it's a bit silly that people are insisting that leaving the Hinterlands is the 'right' thing to do, as opposed to one option.

I've played for 27 hours now and don't have Skyhold, and I'm enjoying myself.

It's not about telling them how to play.

People are simply pointing out that the reason others are not having as much fun as they want (their words) is because they are limiting themselves to the Hinterlands needlessly.

Those having fun can keep doing what they want.

But that's why I made this thread... because I want feedback from other people on how THEY played, and the repercussion of skipping quests in the Hinterlands. Because while the Hinterlands are still fun... it's NOT the excellence I was expecting from this game... so if I can move on to something better without screwing my Inquisitor over, then I'll do it.

If I finish all the side quests in Hinterlands... will I be grossly overleved when I go to Val Royeaux for first part of main quest?

In the Mass Effect trilogy and in earlier Dragon Age games, I always did all possible side quests before moving on... but without scaling to level in DAI, I worry about my char level in relation to main quest level.

Beyond Hinterlands, there's even like 3 other areas I can access before going on to main quest.

I'm confused as to the best course of action - I want to explore as much of game as possible, but still want to maintain a level-appropriate challenge.

Thanks

Nope i completed all possible missions...... except knocking off the dragon, wasn't over leveled.

Maybe, maybe not, but either way you should leave the Hinterlands and go somewhere else for a while. That's how the game plays best and was designed.

I'm thinking the same as you but if i were asked to leave hinterlands i smell over-levelling.

My concern is if move on would any quest or event that takes place in Hinterlands be no longer accessible if do another area or get past certain stages in story from those other areas? I have no desire to leave any zone before done all I can there first if I can help it. I am not concerned about being over-leveled later...I am the sort of person who grinded all characters to level cap etc in FF and same with most RPG's if the RPG is fun enough to keep playing in general.

Go to the world map and go back to Haven, just click start (if on consoles) to bring up the menu that has inventory, and in the middle is the quest map.

The quests remain

im finishing the hinterlands, im level 9 and im really enjoying my time there. there is only one thing for me to do there atm, the last rift level 12, i've just closed two level 12 rift in hard difficulty and it was challenging at my level but very funny.

i will leave the dragon for now because i cant kill it at the moment but i did all the other quests and stuff and it was really cool for me, i advanced a bit to get more companions and i have to decide now at the war table about the first important choice what ill do after close the last rift xD but i was never bored questing or doing things in hinterlands. i played 24-25 hours and im really enjoying the game

Guys you really aren't supposed to "clear the map" before moving on.

There's a great post on reddit about this

Oops, too late.  :P I'm already level 10 and I just

Spoiler
.

I haven't even made it to Skyhold yet. XD

Being a completionist doesn't make things boring for me, though, so even though I've played the game for 23 hours already and barely moved the main plot, that doesn't bother me at all.  :D

I agree! However i think this is more for the huge amount of players saying "this game is garbage! only MMO fetch quests to be had".

They are complaining but they havent even advanced to the first city, kind of thing.
