And more likely this has been thought of before but I had a pet theory that the kid at the start of ME 3 WAS THE CATALYST come down here to Earth to mess with Shepard and start whatever plan he/it/they had in mind...

I based it on just some silly observations like:

A) how fast he vanishes when Shepard tried to help him out the vent.

B) he seems to stare at the Reaper that is looking at him, and it seems to pause for a bit of a while in game time....Almost if the two know each other. At least to my way of thinking.

C) Once recognized he hops on that shuttle and it's shot down...... He teleports to the Reaper and back to where he belongs.

The dream music plays in the background when first hit by the Reaper on Vancouver.

Just saying.

I didn't think of it that way but yeah that might work.

That's about the only way the kid makes any sense.

I found it surprising the kid would say 'you can't help me'

Well, back in the day, the IT had this notion that the boy was always a figment of Shepard's imagination, which was part part of the reaper's indoctrination attempts of Shepard. There are indication that BW might have even planned it like this during certain stages in development but we'll never know for sure.

As for the kid literally being the catalyst, I don't see that. How would it take solid form (or are you saying that the catalyst is also messing with Shepard's mind at this stage, just like the IT)? If he does take solid form somehow, how does he teleport? Why would the catalyst even be interested to make contact with Shepard at this stage, then leave him/her alone for the entire game, right until the end? If he did want to make contact somehow, why would the encounter go down this way? It's not like there is anything relevant said here, did the catalyst just want to make Shepard mad about a child being shot down in a shuttle that was full of people anyway?

I could go on but suffice it to say, that I don't see why or how the catalyst would be there. The IT thing had some interesting implications but that's all water under the bridge these days.

None of the adults help him onto the shuttle. I would expect someone to give the kid a hand but no one does.

Maybe because he exist in Shepard's head? or something only Shepard can see?

Or, given all that Shep has been through, maybe she is suffering from PTSD and the kid is in her head after all.

But then that would imply the Catalyst could get into her head to seize on that image.  Can Reapers do that? I guess they can, indoctrination, Reapers influencing thought.

The whole thing is that Shepard is subject to having visions now. Shepard sees things that aren't there. The reapers touched Shepard's mind with the Reaper artifact in Arrival whether you did it or not. The Catalyst is the collective consciousness of all reapers. No one sees the boy except Shepard. The boy is playing on a roof with no access. Then the boy is in the vent when the reapers arrive and then vanishes. There is a reaper nearby. The boy appears on the tarmac for evac and no one sees him except Shepard. There is a reaper present.

Who put the boy's picture on the Citadel? Weird. Of all the people killed the boy's picture gets put on the wall.

They did the BSG thing with the reapers with the boy.

I... just ... hmm.

Just before Vega calls on shep, Anderson should've poked his head out a door on the roof of that building, shook his fist at the kid, and yelled, "get off my lawn!"

That would have been amazing had that happened.    I'm wondering how the kid got on that roof?

Like that silly indoctrination theory the fans made up to explain the game :D

Aren't we all fun?

Shepard faces a Reaper Destroyer in London.

Pretty sure Harbinger is a Sovereign-class 'capital' Reaper. ;)

Yeah, Shep faces a destroyer too, but you can hardly ignore Harby.

Ah, yes, but does that mean Shep is a destroyer/controller of Reapers, or does that mean Shep becomes a Reaper?

That's the real question.

I'm really not sure which is more ludicrous.

Especially because the control ending seems to show Shep 'inside' a Reaper destroyer.

Sure. He's incredibly important. And represents the problem of the location aside from the Reaper Destroyer. But he's just a Harbinger - "a person who goes ahead and makes known the approach of another; herald."

Either or? What about both? :)

The Destroyer kills the Child. Sad music. Oh wait, don't we hate that kid? He's annoying and weird and fake, right? But he's just a kid! But drama! But annoying! UGH!

...

maxresdefault.jpg

Just do it. He's not a real kid anyway. At all. And the choice itself isn't even real. Just the memory of the actions will be.

So hey DD, what I'm really saying is that we (essentially) get touched by the power of Reapers and take a little of it ourselves, but still come back down to Earth as 'something' (if you've been following DAI, it is the Inquisitor with his Mark, but I can't spoil how he actually gets it).

We won't literally be the Destroyer or Controller or Synthesizer of Reapers from the start, yes. But we'll have the power to begin doing that, instead of just barely struggling against them as Shepard. And while doing so, we'll explore a galaxy(s?) that has deeper mysteries than ever previously believed.

Machines don't need to be constantly networked and all agree with each other. There can be, say, 'heretics'. "You represent Chaos. We represent Order."

The mysteries of the Mass Effect Universe. Like how did a Krogan head end up on a wall in dragon age? Or an Ogre statue in Donovans collection? Or why do Asari share so many similarities with Desire demons?

Maybe Shepard is the warden and we never left Redcliffe. :P

The Asari could be cousins of the Nebari in Farscape.

It's because as far as the kid knows, Shepard is a disgraced hero that has been kept under house arrest for six months, so he doesn't think he is in a position to help any more.

Well, I've come to the conclusion that the Child is Dumat. Harbinger is Corypheus. The reason Anderson acts so crazy in ME3 is that he's really Larius. The Illusive Man is really Janeka.

So we're suppose to believe that the kid knew it was Shepard that wanted to help him?
