VERY disappointed and frustrated

So, I finally gave up.

From the very beginning I've been having problems with random crashes to desk top, sometimes with a DirectX error and sometimes with no error at all, just game one second, desktop the next.

It always occurs when I'm either about to go into a cut scene, when I've just come out of a cut scene, when I'm trying to open up the character sheet or inventory, or when I'm interacting with merchants.

Then I get to play for a few hours with no problems at all.

And right when I'm lulled back into some sense of security, and I might not have saved for a while... Bam, there's the desk top staring at me again.

So ok, my computer might be a couple years old (and I mean literally 2 years old)... But that's no reason for this.

I know I'm not the only one having these problems.

I just want to PLAY, but as yet there's no signs that anyone at all has acknowledged the problems or are addressing them.

WILL I ever get to play this game? Maybe, but right now this game is NOT playable for me. I would say I have no idea how the game got released in this state, but sadly I am all too familiar with Electronic Arts and their methods.

Bioware, please get on this and next time when EA wants you to release when the game isn't ready - tell them to take a flying leap.

This has been a rant borne out of sheer frustration. Bioware, I still love you (what I have managed to see so far has been awesome, and makes the pain of not being able to play all the keener)... Electronic Arts? <I can't say what I want to say because it would be censored> you.

EDIT 23/11/14:

I tried one final thing (as well as a clean uninstall of video drivers, followed by an install of the latest beta drivers) with the game, I switched it into Full Screen (Windowed) mode. The game is MUCH more stable now. It only crashed three times today, twice before I switched the display mode, and once after a protracted series of conversations and cutscenes (very annoying place to crash).

So yeah... Latest or beta drivers for an AMD Raedon card, plus Full Screen Windowed mode was an almost complete fix for me.

Seriously.. the game just came out and there is patchs in the making... not EVERYONE has the same pc and specs. Post your specs and use the technical forums.. you may find answers or you may find that its your own pc thats the problem and maybe just maybe.. it has nothing to do with EA?

List your computer specs. I have been playing for over 30 hours and have only had one crash, but that was when I tabbed to a different program. Other than that it has run smooth as butter at ultra settings with the very rare stutter during cutscenes.

Ridiculously thankful that the PS4 version runs as smooth as it does.

Hopefully the PC gets fixed soon.

I must have been lucky - seems like many people are reporting the crashes.

Game haven't frozen or crashed for me at all thus far. I'm playing on PC and have played for 16 hours according to Origin.

Do you have the latest drivers and no strange programs running in the background?

Funny cause the "inferior" consoles do not have this problem.

I'm pretty confused because my mediocre gaming laptop that passes min requirements to an extent is running the game pretty smoothly. I even put meshes on high with textures and effects on medium to make the game look pretty. It DID crash this morning - after 14 hours of playing, when I opened a store, it was pretty odd but didn't happen again- so far.

Maybe post your specs and someone can help you?

Right because if software is made for one platform and poorly ported and not optimized for another platform, that must be due to the hardware.

My PC doesn't have problems either. BUT I do feel for those that are having a few issues and hope they are resolved soon.

Yes, I checked my drivers and they're all up to date. I have tried running the game with no other programs running (well, aside from the mouse - maybe I'll try without Razer Synapse), and it makes no difference.

My system specs/dxdiag report:

Spoiler

If anyone can help, I'd be grateful... But if not, look... I mostly posted here to rant/vent/get it off my chest, ok? My partner's been playing happily on their machine not more than a meter and a half away from me, with nary a problem - and it gets frustrating. I am happy to wait for a patch, if I know the patch is coming - but I have not been able to find anything about these problems beyond other people complaining about them/posting on the EA Tech Support forum.

I have also just posted there myself as well. So lets see what comes of it, hmm?

...or just click uninstall and get your money back?

I mean... it changes the question of "do I want to play this game for $60" to "do I want to play Tech Support Guy for $60?" People may not have the desire to sink hours into trouble shooting their own PC when they can just get their money back and see if patches in a few month's make the game playable for them.

I hate to say this, but maybe you should get a console.

PC-gaming requires (always has) some knowledge how to keep your system up to date and do some basic troubleshooting on your own.

Sure, there are bugs in the game, but most people can play without problems. Maybe you are suffering from an unfortunate combination of software and hardware the game doesn't like. Programs with overlay functions, like Fraps or Afterburner, are causing problems for many players.

Post your specs, driver versions and non-OS Software you are running. Maybe someone can help you.

Hmm... No... I mean it did cross my mind to just take the game back - but I am prepared to wait for a patch. As for $60? Try $200 (AUD). Yes, I was a sad bunny who bought the Inquisitor Edition.

I really really just want to play.

@InterrogationBear

I do know how to keep my PC up to date, my drivers are all the latest versions. I posted my dxdiag information a few posts up, and that includes my system specs.

It looks like your running your cards in Crossfire - I've heard that causes some weird things as well.

I never had any problems with running the game. It ran like a charm for me.

Install the latest beta drivers for your graphics card, that might help.

Looks like you are still running Catalyst 14.9.

Install 14.11.2 Beta: http://www2.ati.com/...-win7-nov19.exe

That's because all the consoles = 4 different configurations, assuming all their drivers are up to date.

PCs can have an infinite number of configurations. Which GPU (brand and model)? Which CPU (brand and model)? How much memory? Is it overclocked? How much is it overclocked? How fast is disk I/O? How many cores? Not to mention differences in background processes...

Every one of those combinations could have a bad interaction that causes problems with a game. For example, DA:O had a pretty gamebreaking problem with some multicore systems, that could only be fixed by running the game on a single core. Last time I played, it was still an issue, even with 100% up-to-date patches.

To assure quality for every PC user, you have to test on a truly massive number of different machines. That's why newer machines sometimes seem more unstable - the people developing the game engine haven't had as much time to test against them. As well, since people have limited time to test, they try to focus on configurations they expect will be common, which may not be the bleeding-edge hardware.

This is why it's so important to post PC specs when problems come up. :)

They shouldn't have released the game on pc and last gen consoles. I get it that they are optimized and designed for the next gen consoles but they should not have released it the same date as it was on pc and the last gen consoles they should have optimized it more, some people WHO BOUGHT THE GAME CAN'T EVEN PLAY IT. I mean this has been done before, releasing a game on a later date on different platforms, I just can't understand why they would do this.

I'm not seeing what one has to do with another they posted specs awhile ago and mentioned which cpu's wouldn't run the game....
