I'm using a rather mid range pc, playing on high specs and have played for over 15 hours. Not one crash. I started the game with updated Nvidia drivers though, so maybe that made the difference too.
VERY disappointed and frustrated

I'm so happy I'm playing on the PS4 version. Absolutely no problems at all. Very much enjoying the game.
OP I'm sorry the game is crashing for you. Hopefully they'll have a patch out soon to fix the stability issues on the PC version.

Nvidia experience says that the game cannot be optimized. Any idea why it would say this?
I had this problem (gtx 760)
Uninstall drivers, uninstall every nvidia program (except physics, it wouldn't let me uninstall it), then reboot.
When it comes back up, get the newest drivers off the site and reinstall everything ... do discovery, and the optimal settings will show up and set in game.
I went in, tweaked a couple things I didn't care about down, and haven't had a crash in the past few hours of play.

Yes, I checked my drivers and they're all up to date.
I would do a completely clean uninstall/reinstall the latest drivers directly.
I had some issues with my gtx 760, upgraded to the latest drivers, that seem to have been fixed by tearing all the video out (drivers + associated tweaking programs) and doing a clean install of them.

They shouldn't have released the game on pc and last gen consoles. I get it that they are optimized and designed for the next gen consoles but they should not have released it the same date as it was on pc and the last gen consoles they should have optimized it more, some people WHO BOUGHT THE GAME CAN'T EVEN PLAY IT. I mean this has been done before, releasing a game on a later date on different platforms, I just can't understand why they would do this.
Why not on PC? My machine is running the game just fine. Ultra high settings all the way except for MSAA option which doesn't really improve graphics quality that much anyway. I hope people with issues get there problems resolved soon, still no reason to delay the PC release when many of us can play without problems.
Yes the mouse/keyboard is rough around the edges, but I'm getting through OK, and other things will hopefully be improved upon such as Tac-Cam. I'd expect Nvidia and I guess AMD will release more driver optimisations in the days ahead as well.

You don't have to uninstall the driver or the game buddy, i have 760 and i had the same notification, i just get back to the game and option, and put all in default about graphic options, and the optimized option worked perfectly
You're welcome ![]()

Looks like you are still running Catalyst 14.9.
Install 14.11.2 Beta: http://www2.ati.com/...-win7-nov19.exe
Thanks for this suggestion, I'm usually leery of using any beta drivers, but I decided to give it try - so first uninstalled 14.9 completely and then installed the beta drivers. It seems to have made the game a lot more stable. It hasn't completely eliminated the CTDs, but they are less frequent and the game is playable (given that I save often).

...or just click uninstall and get your money back?
I mean... it changes the question of "do I want to play this game for $60" to "do I want to play Tech Support Guy for $60?" People may not have the desire to sink hours into trouble shooting their own PC when they can just get their money back and see if patches in a few month's make the game playable for them.
Consoles do not have many problems because each console has only one kind of software. PCs come in so many shapes and sizes that it is literally impossible to predict all the issues that may arise. This "port" nonsense is ridiculous.
People who don't want to regularly maintain their PCs should not complain when they have issues with new software. There is almost always an additional layer of work PC players must do to make sure new software is 100% compatible with their computers. Considering that DAI is a game which literally uses the entire machine, there is bound to be something that can be improved.
So while you are right that not everyone is capable of doing taking care of their PCs, it's much more sensible for those who do not want to spend time tinkering with their computers to just play on consoles.
It's as simple as that. PCs are a responsibility, not a miracle one size fits all.

Why even bother being a PC gamer if every game causes your poorly optimized, or old rig problems. Computer gaming is expensive and if you can't afford it buy a console its just that easy.

So, I finally gave up.
From the very beginning I've been having problems with random crashes to desk top, sometimes with a DirectX error and sometimes with no error at all, just game one second, desktop the next.
It always occurs when I'm either about to go into a cut scene, when I've just come out of a cut scene, when I'm trying to open up the character sheet or inventory, or when I'm interacting with merchants.
Then I get to play for a few hours with no problems at all.
And right when I'm lulled back into some sense of security, and I might not have saved for a while... Bam, there's the desk top staring at me again.
So ok, my computer might be a couple years old (and I mean literally 2 years old)... But that's no reason for this.
I know I'm not the only one having these problems.
I just want to PLAY, but as yet there's no signs that anyone at all has acknowledged the problems or are addressing them.
WILL I ever get to play this game? Maybe, but right now this game is NOT playable for me. I would say I have no idea how the game got released in this state, but sadly I am all too familiar with Electronic Arts and their methods.
Bioware, please get on this and next time when EA wants you to release when the game isn't ready - tell them to take a flying leap.
This has been a rant borne out of sheer frustration. Bioware, I still love you (what I have managed to see so far has been awesome, and makes the pain of not being able to play all the keener)... Electronic Arts? <I can't say what I want to say because it would be censored> you.
System specs? I'm playing on I7-3770, 16gig, GTX770. Not had a single issue with the game on high settings. However, I do look after my PC ![]()

Yes, I checked my drivers and they're all up to date. I have tried running the game with no other programs running (well, aside from the mouse - maybe I'll try without Razer Synapse), and it makes no difference.
My system specs/dxdiag report:
Spoiler
If anyone can help, I'd be grateful... But if not, look... I mostly posted here to rant/vent/get it off my chest, ok? My partner's been playing happily on their machine not more than a meter and a half away from me, with nary a problem - and it gets frustrating. I am happy to wait for a patch, if I know the patch is coming - but I have not been able to find anything about these problems beyond other people complaining about them/posting on the EA Tech Support forum.
I have also just posted there myself as well. So lets see what comes of it, hmm?
You've answered your own question then - your rig clearly isn't capable.

I don't understand the cost argument. I have spent less upgrading my PC than I would have buying each new generation of console and the PC has many more uses beyond gaming. I don't have a top of the line system, but it's been plenty to play games at least on High settings.

PC gaming, man. I have a much older computer and have had no issues. Every PC game ever has people with crashing issues with it.
I recommend uninstalling all unneeded programs, closing all unneeded processes before playing, checking all drivers, defrag and use ccleaner. I keep my gaming PC as clean as possible and never have crashing issues. Most issues are related to conflicts, so try to eliminate those conflicts. Best advice I have.

Those people are a tiny percentage of the player base. The vast majority of pc players are currently busy enjoying the game. My system is hardly a bleeding edge pc but the game runs great on my computer. The problem is on the some aspect of the OP's end. Christ, some of you people act as if this is the first game to release and have some kind of conflict with a hardware config. Bioware forums are surely home to epic whine fest.
Im sure the devs will get around to addressing all the issues, just like they usually do. Just dont expect them to fix every minor problem immediately after release.

**** i'm the only one old enough to remember that once PC folks weren't this childish regarding bug.
People once knew that with hundreds of possible combination between hw it was a given someone would have problems

I tried one final thing with the game, I switched it into Full Screen (Windowed) mode. The game is MUCH more stable now. It only crashed three times today, twice before I switched the display mode, and once after a protracted series of conversations and cutscenes (very annoying place to crash).
So yeah... Latest or beta drivers for an AMD Raedon card, plus Full Screen Windowed mode was an almost complete fix for me. Going to add this to my initial post too...

following the " get a consolei" idea earlier I have this on both pc and ps4...believe you me if you see the difference in the graphics quality you would know why some people prefer pc for these type of games..the effects especially when you have mantle enabled is jaw dropping...consoles are good especially ps4/xboxone but graphicswise on a top end pc theres no arguement
the guy with pc problems NVidia seem to have a few problems running this game unfortunately... ive always gone AMD/ATI and with the new mantle platform its brilliant...maybe a change of card could help?

Playing the game on a five year-old computer with a graphics card only a little bit better than minimum. At places such as Haven where it needs to render a few NPCs it lags for a couple of seconds. Otherwise it runs better than I expected it to do.
Only had one crash and a couple of random freezes in the main menu. But that's all.

People are always quick to blame the game when things go wrong on PC but 99% of the time a problem can be found with their rig or some program they run in the background that is causing the issue. My own experience has been fine i had some early issues with stuttering and freezing because the game doesn't like the Fraps overlay. Was using it to optimize my graphics settings at the start as soon as i closed fraps the game worked fine. Had a single crash to desktop where the game just closed randomly with no error message but it's not done it since. If there were major issues that needed to be patched because the game is broken then nobody would be able to play it. Long story short do some research before buying games on PC to make sure you build a system capable of giving you a good gaming experience. Dragon Age Inquisition is a demanding game i can't even max it out completely without the FPS being unacceptable and my rig is pretty decent. Maxed out it ranges from 20-30fps for me with some settings changed from Ultra to High and MSAA turned off i get a consistent 50-60fps
