I can't locacte any great bears for this Dalish Favor quest. I went back to the hinterlands where I remembered I had done a quest for them but there ane none, just regular bears. Anyone know where I could find some?

Having the exact same issue. Found great bears in the Hinterlands early in the game and have great bear claws from them, but now when I need their hides I can't find any. All I see is regular bears in Hinterlands, even in the same area where the great bears were before (Hafter's Wood).

Emerald graves, I suggest being 13 plus though, they are no joke! Bears with beards...crazy.

I found one is the Emerald Graves. She was part of a quest though and gave no loot. Hopefully I'll find more. I went at 16 and it was a fair challenge on Normal.

I found mine between "The Betrayer" and "Andraste's Mercy" southeast of the Briathos' Steps camp.

Once you resolve the major arcs in both Emerald Graves and Emprise du Lion they have a tendency to spawn more frequently.

 

Emprise on the frozen river outside the first camp is where I found two of them.  And in Emerald Graves west-ish of the ramshackle housing area the refugees eventually move into.

The special bears in the Hinterlands are "Large Bears", not "Great Bears". I met quite a few Great Bears in the Emerald Graves at L15-16. How many do you need for the quest?

There're Great Bears in  Emprise du Lion....LOTS OF GREAT BEARS....

Plent of great bears in the Emerald Graves. And if you take over Suledin Keep, you can get Leliana to find great bear hide for you.

 You can also purchase Great Bear Hide at the B.E.

 

 The easiest place is the Graves. There is no point in wandering around trying to find them, since they appear randomly. Th best place I have found is the river right before the giant area.

 

Start from the waterfall and work your way down to the infested Chateau. Then work your way back. You can easily get 2 -3 bears here.

 

The other place may have 2. Backside of the Lodge near the Astranarium has one. And another maybe over by the wolf statue where the Rift is/was.

 

There are a few of these bears in Emprise. But I've played numerous play throughs and only seen them there twice. Usually around the frozen river/lake and right before entering the Red Lyrium mining camp.

Three times i completed the quest and was also chasing for the bears and three times they only spawn when i decide to drop that quest and forget about it
