Unlocked the Elementalist.

Got Meteor Shower, Wall of fire, as well as what other 2 skills I decide to bring depending on difficulty.

Wow.  That's a wrap.  My staff even sucks...a common that does 81dmg.

Absolute beast class.  I love the reaver and I'm the type of gamer that I always play warrior/tank.  Not putting the Ele down for quite a while....gonna enjoy it before the nerfs hit.

81 damage is pretty high for a staff

From what I can tell, different weapon types have different damage ceilings, with staves having the lowest (and one handed daggers the most)

I would kill someone for an 81 DPS staff. I've found one staff at 45 DPS and other than that nothing above 32.

I have a 85 dmg staff, its a lv 20, max so far is 23 maybe 25. I'm pretty ****** sure staffs dont go over 120 deeps sans runes.

I feel a lot better now.  It feels like I have the crap end of the deal.  I've bought a lot of large chests and the only purp I have is a ring that does extra damage to barriers.......

Glad to see my staff is better than I thought although I would like to have some of the purps I've seen obviously.  I have a spirit rune in mine for the 10 dmg.  Have been forced to go back to tanking by my group....I missing that ele bad.

do u guys like fire mine?  I have it, but I think im gonna swap it out.  It does a huge hit of damage (I also have the +30% dmg ring for it) and it also causes a knockdown.

I feel like theres other stuff I have though and I need to promote and skip it for a skill i get more use out of.

Yeah... weapon DPS is super tricky.  It's hard to make comparisons cross-class as what's "good" fluctuates a lot.

As far as staffs go, someone posted earlier about a lvl 23 Rare staff they had that did 151 DPS.  I think they said that was un-runed, which sounds insane to me.

I haven't tinkered with Fire Mine yet, the damage looks great, I was just concerned about the AoE on it.  Fire Wall actually does pretty solid damage as well and has the advantage of being persistent and allowing me to cover a lot of ground with it, so I opted for it instead.  I feel like Fire Mine would be awesome if you regularly grouped with an AW that could drop Abyss for you.

Anyway, yeah.  Ele is a ton of fun.  Most of the mage classes are great actually, Keeper's really the only one I haven't gotten that attached to.  I'll admit, part of it is because I don't really want to listen to her dialogue.

Fire Mine has some really great damage but it requires 3s to arm making it somewhat tedious to use.  It is still one of the highest damage spells in the game though and can really make the most of Chaotic Focus.  I used it extensively on my first build but it needs Winter's Grasp/Chill or some other disable to ensure the damage hits the intended target.  There's nothing worse than having a Chaotic Focused Fire Mine on the ground and no enemies to detonate it.  It is worth noting that when combined with Pull of the Abyss it can absolutely devastate large groups of enemies.

Wall of Fire is far more consistent and lasts for 20 seconds!  Even with a 32s cooldown you can often place a second one right after the first expires thanks to Clean Burn and Gathering Storm.  If you take advantage of Flashpoint you can actually have two of them active at the same time.  The damage is the same as Fire Mine but it takes 8s to get there.  It can be used to lockdown flanks or to slow an assault.  It's large area also makes it ideal for large groups of enemies, unlike Fire Mine.  Sadly, Wall of Fire suffers from the same problems as Fire Mine and it takes some setup to maximize its damage.  Thankfully, even if you leave it to cover a flank and no one wanders through it then it has served its purpose; because of this it feels easier to use than Fire Mine.

The biggest problem with the Elementalist is that they have too many useful skills.  Trying to select just 4 can be very difficult although Immolate always deserves a spot; it's just that good.  Right now I am enjoying Immolate, Stonefist, Wall of Fire, and Barrier.  Firestorm is great but the 60s cooldown demands Flashpoint to make it more than just a situational skill and often I want to Immolate back-to-back, use Chaotic Focus and have Barrier available, or two Wall of Fires active instead.
