Apart from encounters being harder it's not different game wise.

I don't care about it being hard, the enemies respawning during fights and combat being disappointing (even DA2 was more tactical) was what made me drop the difficulty to normal. I was that annoyed with the combat.

I'm not having tons of trouble and I couldn't even beat DA2 on nightmare. Try different tactics and make sure your entire party has level appropriate gear on. When I hit level 6/7 I ran into the problem of getting **** stomped but then I realized some gear in my party was still level 2-4. Once I switched it out I was able to compete

You can always change the difficulty on the fly in the game...so it's really moot which difficulty you play on.

I have a friend that literally changes difficulty in games based on the encounter.  Sometimes he'll beat a boss down on a lower difficulty and switch it back to hardest difficulty before it dies so he can say, "look, I beat it on hardest difficulty".

Yea, those kind of people make me lolz.

End of the day, if you want a stiff challenge, play from beginning on hard.

If you're the type that wants to beat each fight near flawlessly (tactics wise) you should choose nightmare.

If you just want the game to be easy combat wise and see the story while you pick flowers, pick casual.

Everyone else, play on normal.
