So when do I have to start really hoarding power and influence? When will it make an impact on the story? What quest is the quest that locks in how the ending will be? Sorry if this already has been asked.

You dont have to hoard any power if your doing most quests...by the end of the game I had over 100 points that I could do nothing with. It doesnt really impact anything apart from unlocking the key areas which are highlighted by a green cloud. And when you get to the last quest you'll get a notification at the bottom of the charter that its the last quest and there wont be any going back.

did all side quests before reaching skyhold > had spare 100 power points right there.
you get them easy... what's need to be careful off is the influance as you get it so slow and need to be extra careful not to pick something wrong by mistake.

Okay thanks for the replies, I have 122 power and level 12 influence but I'm scared to move on in the main quest incase I need more power.
