That is not a story. You'd need proper NPCs, a real treasure hunt, a mysteries, an antagonist and so on.

There are a very large number of quests in the game that fit those parameters... making another one that is relatively inaccessible to anyone not doing a 200 hour completionist run wouldn't make the people disinclined towards that style of play want to do it any more. Instead, they would complain about the grind necessary to get that content.

"How many keys does this stupid temple have?" - Iron Bull, like, two minutes ago.  :D

You know what would be fun? After unlocking 7-8 doors. Having to spend all of the shards in the game. The final door unlocks and there is zero loot behind it. Nothing at all. Except...the corpse of The Warden.

The way I see it if you have to come up with a reward in order to make people do something, hunting for things, it might simply not be something worth putting into the game in the first place. I would not have minded hunting for keys if they actually been special for the quest instead of random "collect x" mini games. However since people seem to have different ideas I simply have to agree to disagree with the others on this issue.

I prefer games that doesn't put stuff into the game simply to drag out the time it takes to complete it.

I think you misunderstood the map your playing on. That whole map with the temple solely exists as a big "reward chest" for shard hunting. It's the one thing shards are good for. If you want quests and experience go to the hinterlands or stormcoast or fallow mire, that's were actual quests are. Besides loot and more locked doors, you won't find much in that temple, it's purely to get items from spending shards.

Makes me remember that one Demon Door in Fable Lost Chapters that asked for all your Silver Keys, and behind it was a

Actually shards from any zone will work on those doors. You don't have to jump around the desert for hours. Hinterlands has lots of shards, and most aren't nearly so hard to reach. Same with the Stormcoast.

But I agree, having to hunt this down - I'm down to the last door (frost, since I'm playing a frosty mage). It best be something other then a stuffed poo-bear.

Glad I read this, about 25 hours in with 30+ shards and haven't visited the Oasis yet.

The shards are creepy. When you get close to them they whisper and it becomes louder the closer you get. SOOO creepy.

This makes all the difference i think.  A reward system for collecting the shards scattered around is fine; if they were locking real content behind the shard hunting then I'd have a problem with it.

Just today I unlocked the Forgotten Temple area and OHMAHGAWD, shards are a pain in the arse to find! I've got four left in that damned desert and I've traversed every nook and cranny twenty times over with no luck. :( I think I spent a good two hours simply jumping. Seriously, that location alone was made for jumping. A lot of jumping. X_X By the Dread Wolf, why so much jumping?!

Also... this is a small SPOILER for that temple location. Not that big of one, tbh, but still... SPOILER:

.

.

.

.

.

.

That lady miner who wants her wedding ring back? The idiot got herself locked behind one of the temple doors and I can't give her her ring back until I find 12 more shards. I hope yeh die of starvation, yeh daft twit! *shakes fist*

As much as I complain of shard hunting, I do enjoy looking for and collecting them. I do wish, however, that the ones in the temple area weren't in such PAIN IN THE ARSE TO REACH locations. :P

They aren't crucial quest. They have no story to them. It's all stat boosts and items. As others have said, it is a reward for investing that much time in to the game.

It isn't required and you aren't being deprived of anything important.

Makes me wonder how people survived playing older games. I remember spending ****** hours trying to breed a Gold Chocobo in FF7 and that game wasn't even open world.

If you are an efficient explorer, just picking up shards along the way is not very hard. I've unlocked quite a few of the doors and I never really hunted shards unless it happened to be the last thing i needed to get to clean an area.

There are tons of different types of quest in this game, I'm ok with one being a mass collection quest. Did you play destiny? It's literally all the same thing, protect the bot and kill. This is the best game out right now and if this is your biggest gripe id say bioware hit the mark here. Just my opinion.

Is there anything good behind the doors? Like schematics or great weapons?

All I can say is that whoever designed the Forbidden Oasis area is a total sadist.  I need Google maps!

The shard hunt isn't a big deal to me,it's certainly not worse than the 200 pigeons from GTA 4.

Plus the view from an island on the storm coast! wow!

The doors require way too many shards.

Bioware should have limited themselves to only placing 4-6 shards per map, not 22.

there's different amounts on each map. storm coast only had 11.

Lol...what? I got too bored of GTA 4 too quickly to get that far, but you have to collect 200 pigeons? Was it to help some goon set up a coop on a rooftop?

There are some OP rewards in that cave so little grind is required.

And therein lies the problem.

Uh I dunno I thought the cave rewards were pretty bad. At least the ice and fire ones were, I didn't do spirit. I was expecting something way better considering all the shards I used.

Do you have to choose a reward or you can get them all? Do you choose them knowingly or unknowingly?
