I am having a couple of problems completing this quest, wondering if anyone can help.

 

 

The four objectives are:

- gather philter materials

- gather 20 embrium

- gather 3 broken philters

- obtain writings about Templar methods

 

First problem: I have more then enough crafting materials, but none of the first three objectives are getting a highlighted diamond as if I've completed them.  It's like the game isn't recognizing completion, even though objective bars are at 3/3 and 20/20.

 

Second problem: the book.  According to the quest journal, the book is either obtained from "the belongings" of a follower with Templar specialization, or from the book seller in Val Royeau.  The book seller in the upper market does not have it (I bought his entire stock just to be sure), and when I go to Cassandra (who has that specialization) , I have been through cutscene dialogue and other conversations with Cassandra and have no book dialogue option, and unless I'm missing something (am I missing something?), she doesn't have a specific room in Skyhold that I can rummage through the way Solas and Vivienne have rooms.

 

Any suggestions?  I don't really want to progress the game much further until I can unlock my specialization.

I'm having troble finding that book too. I was (and still am.) so looking forward to being a templar.

I can help you with the first, Cassandra has a book titled "Way of the Templar" located in the room on top of the Blacksmith's Smith. I still don't know what gather philter materials entails as I already found everything else.

Where oh where do you get the bloody Broken Philters? I cannot for the life of me find them. It's maddening. I've been playing for hours and still cannot locate them.

You get the broken philters off of demons in the Hinterlands. Specifically the West Road, Witchwood, and Lady Shaynas Valley. Carefulwith that last one. Here there be dragons.

My question is, will more demons show up eventually? I've killed demons in all three locales, but only got two philters. Should I keep looking, or did my game bug and I'm just SOL for this specialization?

I'm playing a mage so have no need for broken philters but I can tell you this, i've gotten like 5 of these philters so far from killing demons all over the place. Just keep killing em ...try fade rift hunting perhaps to see if you can get your last one

I'm wondering the same thing as I'm in the same situation.

I got all my philters from killing Red Templars during the Battle of Haven.  It was super easy.  I didn't know where the book was until reading this, so thanks for that info.  Now I just need to hunt for the Embrium.

I am also having the problem of getting the diamonds to fill in as done. I have all the qualifications, but it only recognizes one as being completed. I have 20 embrium and 3 broken philters as listed, but the diamonds won't fill in. Any suggestions?

I haven't seen this bug myself.  Have you tried to just craft the item and seeing if it lets you go past to the next part?

Actually I found you can craft the philter even if the diamonds aren't filled in. I honestly didn't try before. So I guess that was my fault. I just assumed the diamonds needed to be filled in first.
