Hi.
I know there are plenty of threads already like this, but I thought I should share my experiences so far, since...well, everyone else is doing it.
Performance wise, I'm finding the game to be mostly OK. I'm playing with a GTX 660, 8 gig of RAM and an AMD 6350 processor (3.9 GHz). So my computer has got some grunt, but it's not top tier. With medium settings on everything, I've found I have some micro-stutters during cut scenes but in terms of gameplay performance I am having no problems. I'm going to be experimenting with turning down some of the post-processing, vegetation, water and shadows to see if that helps matters any. The game is very, very pretty though, I aint gonna lie. Maybe a bit too shiny in places (hair, armour), but that aside, it looks utterly gorgeous.
Gameplay wise....some of the choices are interesting. I'm not finding the lack of auto-attack to be that much of a bother, personally, if anything I feel slightly more engaged and involved in the fighting. The lack of a fully-fleshed out tactics section is, however, quite disappointing. You can fiddle with some settings to optimise your party, but it's nothing like the wide range of options previous games presented. I do consider that to be a real shame. It's definitely worth looking at the key bindings, I myself have swapped pause and jump after a few too many confused episodes of button mashing.
Speaking of which, jumping is awesome. Finally, the PC is not restricted by waist high fences or rubble (as the Hero of Ferelden might say "fences! My only weakness!"). I know some people are annoyed about having to move your character directly next to objects to pick them up, rather than click and have your character move. I've found that to be a slight annoyance myself, but only a slight one. Equally, not being able to scroll down the skill trees is a fairly large thing to miss, and makes planning your character harder (you can select those abilities at the bottom ot the tree still, but not easily).
Which is pretty much how I'd describe my reaction to the game so far. There are annoyances, and it is annoying that BioWare did not notice and deal with these annoyances earlier on. I do hope the patch will deal with most of that. However, I don't find any of them to be deal-breakers - the lack of more customizable tactics is, IMO, the main flaw in the new system.
Story-wise...well, I'm only just through the prologue, so I can't really comment so far on that. Seems promising at the moment, though.
Overall, I have a fairly good first impression of the game. I hope that will improve with the patch and as I get further into the story, characters, crafting and exploration.
