I am not sure if Devs read these forums but today i came across a new bug (to me).

Basically i was in a merchant selling my loot when i noticed when i moused over my equipment no stats would show up, weapons, armor, accessories nothing would highlight the stats..so i had no way to judge my new loot from the old..

Leaving the merchant, opening closing the interface, nothing fixed it... Finally restarting the game fixed it luckily but it was annoying..

Hello, everyone... Is there a way to fix the horrible frame drops with this game? I have bought it on pre order but I have mixed feelings about this but the most strong one is regret. Really, pure regret most of the time...  I think that I should have bought it years after release, perhaps then it would be "normal". A good lesson for me..

I really like this game and I want to do all that I can but the issues really bothers me.

The first time I felt hatred for this gem was when a NPC was bellow the ground not allowing me to start a certain quest. I gave up the game back then. But after some patches I decided to start a new game. The was really nice, I could even use the horse to run around keeping a really playable FPS! I was so happy! No frame drops or anything, the game was fine. But after the "patch 4" the game was, once more unplayable for me... I can't walk anywhere with those atrocious frame drops...

More than one hundred hours of gameplays across many saves and ONLY NOW I made it to Skyhold. I can't enjoy the game as like that and I do not want to hate it for its problems either...

Please, is there a way to fix this?

I will put here some videos of my problem:

Okay, now turn off your FPS counter, go play the game. Show me a lag death, stopping despite having auto run on, something that actually matters as far as enjoying the game goes.

I don't mean to sound snarky, but so you drop to 25-30 FPS in Skyhold, is that preventing you from doing anything, does it make the dialog lag so that you can't understand it?

Sure we all want perfection but, if the imperfection is not hindering game-play and, it's just a counter that you put there driving you nuts, turn the counter off.

Too many today get hung up on numbers and forget how to relax and just play a game, if they can't have 100 FPS non stop, suddenly they can't play, and I'd wager many would be just fine if they didn't know the FPS they were getting.

Yes, if it were inconsistent in an area or, dropping to the low teens and lower, then there might be a real, game-play affecting problem with lower FPS, but I didn't see that happening in those videos.

Well, if it is a DX problem, them there's nothing to be done, I guess. But why I hadn't this before the last update since my new game with this char? As I said, I played it quite well even running with the horse. And now this ):

And, DarkAmaranth1966, this problem isn't just in Skyhold. It's everywhere. First I noticed it, was in Hinterlands, long ago when the game was released. I decided to endure and kept playing regardless. Then I couldn't take it anymore and left the game alone. It had an update and I could play really well. In Hinterlands and in Stormcoast. Then, the update again. The hotfix called patch 4. In Stormcoast I noticed it, the frames there then down, and up again. having this happening during a fight, or even exploring is quite bothersome.

At least for me, is something that will prevent me from playing. I also not aiming for perfection, but for bearable performance, which isn't happening.

One more thing, if you watch all the videos, you will see that the same thing happens even on the war map.

A lot here attack people if they say they have game breaking issues, its kind of a reflex for some.

Have you tried going to older drivers, that worked for me.

If you are on Console i'm not sure what to do.

For people who are experiencing framerate drops when playing with a Xbox controller: try to disable the Xboxstat.exe process. It won't affect how your controller works and boosted performance a lot for me. No idea why but it was sucking so much CPU it conflicted with DAI.

I promptly proceeded to play in the Storm Coast and stumble into the unkillable giants bug. :D

My point is, that I have FPS drops too but, they aren't affecting gameplay, not causing lag death or keeping me from doing quests or interacting or anything. Sure it'd be great if they never happened but, unless they really are game breaking, they are going to be a low priority for Bioware to fix and, why let some numbers that you choose to place on your screen ruin the game entirely for you - anyone?

I've seen to many get hing up on % of CPU or GPU used, RAM used (assuming it isn't going astronomically high, indicating a severe memory leak) FPS etc.. and yet a video of one hour of game play might show one or two moments of 1-3 second lag in a very busy part of the game. Annoying but not game breaking.

My definition of game breaking : cannot progress due to crash, stall, refusal to load, character, object or location missing after you have taken all possible steps to correct the problem, repeated lag death, can NEVER walk because it takes 30 seconds to take one single step, cannot interact because audio sounds like "aaayeee.......ooooaaaam...nnnnnnnot.....theeeeee....hheeeeeerrrralddddd." and that takes a full minute or longer to play. Now that would be game breaking stuff.

Anymore people too often cry "game breaking" when in fact it is not, it is a case of they do not want to try to correct it, are not willing to work around it or, ignore it when it has little to no effect on actual game play. A bit like someone screaming they broke their foot and must go to the hospital when all they did was stub their toe. (Yes I know people like that.) You know, "OMG, it's a blizzard" when really there was sleet for 5 minutes on a 60 degree day.

I don't like that some armors do not show on my Qunari, I would like longer hair for my Inquisitor, I wish Poulan could not be judged too soon, I wish you didn't have to talk to all trainers to avoid stuck quest markers in Skyhold.... and my list goes on but, those aren't game breaking. I also wish I could hold 60+ FPS non stop, I run dual Titans but, that isn't happening either and, it's still not game breaking, the game plays fine save a few spell lags here and there where it does drop to 6-10 FPS for a second or two. Okay annoying but not game breaking.

I also have a AMD card.    The latest patch my FPS really fly.  However I had to empty the game property box and turn V sinc back on to cap framerates because of heat problems.  I also have Mantle turned on because I get higher FPS overall and it makes my experience more stable.  I am not interested in a one time High FPS.  So I get 60FPS allmost constantly playing after patch 4.

My system and yours are not comparable hardware wise except for the same manufactuer of grafics card.  But if you really that fixated on FPS then you might consider beefing up your computer considerably.  I wouldn't even check FPS with your system, in my mind you are getting decent FPS with your hardware.  This is a very demanding game.

Well, I will try that. KoShiatar. As for DarkAramanth, he seems to not understand how that isn't just numbers on the screen that I have decided to let them be there. There are actually slowdowns when that happens. You saw on the video how quickly they happened, the interval between a peak and a drop. While this happens when walking around and battling IS a game breaking issue. I am not aiming for 60fps. I am aiming to not have these drops happening all the time.

Yes, but did you consider the purest option?  Delete everything and reformat your hard drive?  That's the only way out of this Inquisition hell.

hello mate.

I had similar issues it translated into CTD when fast travel, cut sceen or places that triggered a significant texture loading. could play for 5-20 minutes and then a boot of CTD.

nothing in the logs

i have a fx8150 @ 3.98 ghz

16 meg of ram

a gtx 790 from MSi

my screen is 24" wide screen

my drivers are 347.9 (i have the recommanded visual c++  version  and  Dx version. i have removed previous driver and done a full install of the nvidia.

i did not install n-vidia experience.

I play @ 1080p with everything on ultra around (75 fps with a min of 53 in sample )

I have disable any AA , it is not crashing but you anything above *2 and you have a very nice brown brow fog. so you can't see anything.

i have disabled multi-sampling.

i have disabled the shader cache in the (nvidia- drivers)

I have a Asus MB (crosshair V) so it came with a a screen capture that stayed resident (ODS or OSD). i never used it with DA:I but i de-installed it.

for me the shader cache, not having nvida and ODS/OSD have been the main factor

Result i only had 2  crashes in 110 hours of play.

and i can finjs the intro in nightmare, without the anything throwing their toys out of the pram

I had disable the connection to origins but i have put them back on with no ill effect

I have a really annoying problem. It seems to be the latest patch's fault, since I din't install any mods and didn't add anything to my system, and it is the fisrt time I encounter such problem.

I started a new game yesterday and only got to battle at Haven today. After converstaion with Solas, a cutscene with moving to Skyhold should start, but instead I get white screen with background sounds. If I load older saves, or saves of my other chars who are already in Skyhold, everything works fine...Except for that scene. I tried reloading and restarting my PC for a few hours already, I also tried repairing installation in Origin, hell, I even reinstalled the game - nothing worked. Is there any way to fix it?

Inquisition eats a lot of ressources, but you do get worse framerate drops than I do on my 5 year old HD5870. I don't see a problem in the 2nd and 3rd vid since I don't consider 30 fps to be atrocious. Bad sure, but not unplayable. The first video however, you're kissing 17, ouch

The same can be said about Raptr from ATI/AMD. When it's enabled, I have had crashes when the game jumps from action to cutscene. I disabled it as a part of the clean boot process and didn't have that problem again. I updated the drivers and Raptr was re-enabled. I'm not sure it was the driver or Raptr, but I disabled Raptr and once again the game is running fine.

When you update the Catalysts always install with the "manual" option instead of the "express" option--this allows you to install the driver components individually, or not install them at all, as you choose.  Raptr is presented with a checked checkbox--just deselect it, the check disappears, and Raptr will not be installed when you install your next driver.  Actually, AMD makes this point rather clear.

I have a game that isn't satisfactory.  To whom do I complain?  I thought that I followed the right channels, but I got censored and suspended at every turn.  I followed all of the steps. I just want someone at the company to man up/own up/grow a pair, and say that they're sorry to US.  For lying to US.  An admission of guilt.  It's the truth, why would they be afraid to acknowledge the truth?

There are various issues that cause framerate loss and also different fixes that can help depending on the cause of your particular frame rate loss. I suggest checking this thread:

I always have problems posting links here so I will describe where to find the great thread for troubleshooting with frame rate and other issues:

Thread is called "A collection of tweaks and fixes for the pc version " its under this forum under Dragon Age Inquisition : Its in the "Scuttlebutt [No Spoilers]" Section

There are very detailed solutions you can try and also helpful people who have replied in the thread.

Good luck to you!

Nvidia owners that are still having the DX crash may want to look into the new drivers. Yes, it means a performance hit but, may stop the crashing. Read more here: http://answers.ea.co...366895#U4366895

As stated by Conal Pierse in Troubleshooting and workarounds;

'alterations to the command line, particularly '60fps cutscene fix' is causing issues.

Once I deleted this fix from -Origin- my game folder- Inquisition- game properties command line;

DAMP works and I can play now! Deleting this cleared up my teleporting issue, outside game or under game, always by myself and could not join team, no enemies, could not get through open doorways, and others.

I also extracted my dxsetup files contained in DAI, _installer, directx, redist 'folder'

seems to never have been extracted or 'run'. dxdllreg was not there until now.

I then 'repaired' game from within -Origin- my game folder.

DAMP is great, runs fine, no issues, single player game also seems to have better resolution !

Hi DarkAmaranth, I tried what you suggested. Didn't work, still get the "DirectX function Error".........an invalid parameter was passed to return function etc, etc. Now I can't even log into the help topic were you first answered my call to help lol.

So, suddenly my game doesn't work anymore.

It has worked fine until now. Played it just the other day. But today it stops during loading any saved game. It does show the dreaded black screen, but the game itself seems to have hanged in some way, because the music stops as well. There's no problems whatsoever to return to Windows and close down DA:I from there.

Nothing has been done to either game or PC. PC is in other ways in perfect condition and works flawlessly, as always.

Conclusion: Bioware is not out of the wood yet.   <_<

Edit: Game behaves - fails - exactly the same in window or fullscreen. Origin online or offline.

...And, <sigh> everything worked fine until today.

Have you tried rebooting your computer or, at least exiting and restarting Origin? If that does not work, Create a new folder on your desktop, CUT and paste the contents of Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age Inquisition Saves into the new folder then, attempt to launch the game with an empty saves folder.

This will reset all options to default and, of course there will not be a game to continue but, if the game launches properly, then you have a corrupt save and can rest your options then, place saves back into the saves folder one file at a time to find the point at which the game was corrupted.

You may loose some progress finding a working save but, should be able to continue the game.

I'll try more tomorrow. But the same saves worked yesterday. My suspicions is more that the game has corrupted itself. i.e. a certain DRM product will always sometimes fail somewhere, because of meta-mathematical reasons. Alternative, a certain Frostbite engine will always fail sometimes, somewhere, for the same meta-mathematical reasons. I do not believe I will have this running again until I have re- or repair-installed the game. But we'll see. Not now though.

Hi DarkAmaranth!

I don't know if your advice above was directed at me or bEVEsthda, but I tried it and hip, hip hooray! It worked!! It must of been one of the saves that was corrupted in some way. EA tech. support told me to create a new account on my computer and log with that. Me being soooooo polite I didn't tell them what to do with that idea (and they had both the dxdiag and msinfo info to work from).

So a BIG thank you Dark!
