I have just received today the hard copy version Deluxe Edition of Dragon Age Inquistion.

Which incidentally I had to order from Amazon.com in the U.S. because there were no retailers in the UK that sold the hard copy. The Deluxe Edition is only available here in the UK as a digital download.

As I have both Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age Awakening in hard copy, I wanted  Inquisition in that format too.

Anyway it has meant that I have had to wait with greater anticipation the extra week to get my hands on the game.

Guess what folks?? The game won't run!!

I got it installed at 11am this morning and I have spent the whole day (it is now 9pm) trying to get the ****** thing to run without success.

I get as far as the opening scene with the soldiers and enchanters walking down the road and the 'Press any Key' and it freezes.

A couple of times I got to the game menu and options screen (whooppee!) - then it hangs :(( :((

I have run the game as Aministrator

I have re-installed DirectX (correction - I tried to but was told I had the newest version already installed)

I have re-installed Microsoft Visual C+

I have re-installed .Net Framework 4.5

I have checked that I have the latest Nvidia drivers

I deleted and re-installed Origins

I disabled Origins In Game

I have re-installed Dragon Age Inquistion

I have run Repair Game and file check within Origin

Disabled any overlays

Run the game as Aministrator (several times!)

My system specification is as follows: Intel Core Extreme CPU X9650 3.00Ghz Quad Core, 8.00Gb DDR3 memory, Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Ti, with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Which I think most would agree satisfies at least the minimum requirements for the game.

Can ANYONE tell me why this game I paid £66.00 for will not run??

Invisman (VERY annoyed and disappointed)

You haven't been around here  past last week right? Game is buggy as f.. atm, LOTS of people with high end machines ( me included ) , can't run it , slow fps, can't get pass menu, black screens, crash to desktop, 100% CPU usage, you name it, they are looking into it, when you gonna be able to play it ? **** knows.

So far been a week and no patch, they can't provide a data either, can be 1 day or 1 month , who knows...

A slightly weird solution for the instability/constant ctd's: Kill explorer.exe  (thru taskmanager) after entering game. You can easily start it up again when done playing. Start up w 'Origin disabled in game'. Ctrl-Alt-Del to taskmanager --> rightclick 'explorer.exe' ---> End process ---> switch back to game.

Played 6+ hours straight with 0 ctd's before exiting. Been playing some today, still no issues.

Cons: any Media-related buttons on your keyboard (volume, etc) won't work during play so set the volume ingame.

I realise this is very much an individual experience but it wont hurt to try it out.

I'm using i5 2500k stock clocking, 8gb ram and Gtx 760, Win 7 64bit

I don't know why, but... it's working ... o_O

BTW, I have not experienced stuttering or framerate issues some people mentioned... On the other hand freezing occured durning cutscenes resulting in "white screen","apphang" or "driver recovered". I hope bioware patch is coming soon (or nvidia fix). Thank you Jed Q for a temporary solution to my issue /knocks on wood/.

I tried the explorer disable.  It didn't help me.

Turning down graphics settings helped (except mesh left at ultra for better hair ) and disabling MSAA.

Have a GTX 660 2GB.  Win 7 64. i5-Haswell.

And also disabling the Windows Superfetch process.  That plus graphics settings was key to get through longer cutscenes and through more war-table navigations.

Still freezes though, but usually after 2-5 hours now.  I can live with that.  (is it a memory management issue? It sure seems a possibility.)

At first when all settings were ultra and MSAA was on, it would be dicey if i crashed in CC or during intro scene so character data was lost.

On one test, I disabled my PC security all together and my computer froze at menu start too.

I switch my security program to gamemode and I am fine 100% navigating menus and launching game (playing with internet disabled).

Hope that helps someone.

Amazing game when it gets going.  :)

I am 15 hours in after several character rerolls and test plays.

Just got the game yesterday for the ps3 and thought the game was pretty amazing for the old gen and believed i got a good deal until the game stopped working
For me anyways it likes to completely freeze up after i click continue it worked for about a day and now it wont let me continue to play it anymore
I though maybe it was the ps3 and the game was just better suited for new gens then read some forums and found that the new gens and pc were having trouble with freezing and etc. With the game at moment im waiting it out to see if this will be fixed i hope it does cuz the game was well thought out and i would like to continue playing it however if it doesnt get fixed soon I'll have to return it and get my money back

So please work to fix this as best you can for all consoles

Direct X 11 has also been destroying my game and my PC. I use a AMD card as well and this BETA patch does NOT work. Within 15-20 minutes, sometimes its less the game starts to crash with the sound skipping/repeating followed by frame rates dropping HARD and my entire computer running slow and requiring a restart ASAP. This is the only game with DirectX11 causing this. And i've tried everything for nearly a entire week and nothing has worked.

My specs are as follows;

Intel® Core™ i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz

AMD Radeon R9 200 Series

Intel® HD Graphics 4600 Memory

8.1 GB

Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (build 7600), 64-bit

1920 x 1080

I give up honestly - I've barely done anything in the game - Love it to bits but this is all I can take now.

Strange, the AMD beta drivers significantly help for me. Try disabling Intel HD graphics so that your comp is forced to used your dedicated gpu.

At the moment I'm just using high on everything. MSAA is off. I tried it with everything low and the same thing happened.

I'm starting to think that it's a software possibly - Runs fine then it starts to slowly crash.

Hmm.  It could be a few things.

Your system is fairly similar to mine though I have an Nvidia GPU.

I never got any of those symptoms.

It sounds like a memory issue, but that's not for sure.

You could try

memtest86 to test your memory,

or play with your cores, changing priorities

definately try disabling the windows process called superfetch in your admin<services - easy to turn off and on

or if you don't have time, wait and see if it is a direct-x issue.

I don't have it, but that doesn't mean you can't.

Good luck :)

UPDATE: Didn't work - still occuring. Game works amazing - but after a few minutes cracking starts, sound stops jumping and trouble beings :(

From Answers HQ:

Please note that alterations to the command line, particularly those associated with the "60fps cutscene fix" for PC may be causing other issues for players, such as rubber banding in multiplayer and blocking after the character generator. If you are experiencing these issues, please try undoing the fix.

[PC] Performance issues during gameplay

  • Turn off MSAA
  • Set all graphical settings to low, and then gradually increase them until performance is impacted

There are a large number of xbox 360 machines on which Inquisition will not work (disc unreadable error- tried clearing cache and hard drive and reloading disc 1) etc Game threw me out 40 times in 15 hours of gameplay. Have heard nothing from Bioware regarding whether this will be patched. We are not asking for a timetable- just to know whether this will be fixed or not. If it is not patched the game is irrevocably broken and I and mnay others will need to send it back. Can i just get any response regarding this, please?

I am still getting the DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error every other cutscene. This has gotten to the point where I don't even want to play the game anymore. I have a Radeon 6850, completely smash the other specs, and have the beta drivers listed, with no effect. I have EVERY workaround listed in this thread with no avail. Is there any eta on a fix for this issue, or at least acknowledgement the issue is being addressed? The game is SUPER fun when it works, and I have never had this issue with another game.

None of this has helped me.  I still get DirectX error crashes on 5870 GPU every other cutscene or everytime I look through skull to f ind shards.  I have completely quit playing and now I am playing Dragon Age Origins while waiting for a fix for PC. lol

I've been trying to find an actual work around for the Dorian Letter bug for his personal quest, I just got Skyhold, and I'm assuming that's when you are able to get it. It's really making me paranoid since he's my planned romance. Anybody have any actual theories on this? I've tried everything in the answer threads about it.

I'm right there with Robb & Hax. I get directx crash in every cutscene. Nvidia 760Ti. can do everything but talk to frickin' Cullen & Josephine in Haven. no war room issues. tried pretty much every suggestion. (I'm not underclocking or messing with framerates.) Seems as if the game was optimized for medium PCs with console controller.

Odd thing is that the Prologue was perfect & the cutscenes play without a stutter - for 10-15 secs before CTD.  I saved my game where my character is 5 feet from Cullen.  In ten seconds I can tell if a tweak works or not. so, not a memory leak for me nor a heating issue.  apparently my game + driver + card are not speaking clearly to each other.

bioware was in our face with screenshots, vids, talks, holding our hand - until we bought the game. now, where are they? b'ware used to be one of my fave game companies.

on the bright side I have enough elfroot to last a lifetime (my lifetime!)

Playing on the 360, and my biggest problems are freezes during cutscenes and sometimes the dialogue will skip or words will not have any audio randomly.

The freezing cutscene problem is especially bad when talking to a certain character in the cave in Crestwood.

I have been playing 15 hours without a hitch but now I am stuck at the cutscene in the Redcliff-chantry when coming back from the f....... .

I am teleported back and Dorian talks to Aurelius and he just sais nothing back and I cant move anymore or do anything in the gameworld but I can open my inventory.

I have tried a couple of times from the last safe and everytime it stops at the same point.

Also done a repair game.

Help!

Phaedre

I see you haven't come back after posting, but I had this same glitch and figured out a fix. Basically, I choose a different choice (really didn't care at the time after beating the boss 4 times) after the boss fight, hit "esc" to skip scenes right as the cutscene was going back to Redcliff. I didn't affect my romance or other choices either, just fyi.

Another workaround, for those on PC who are having problems with choices not highlighting when they come up. What works for me is on Win7:

Press Ctrl> Alt> Delete, the windows 7 screen will come up, but just hit "Cancel". The game should come back and the choices should highlight now.

A top of the line Nvidia card and it's breaking the game for me. How long till it's fixed guys?

The last response on these forums I've seen addressing this was on Tuesday, November 25 (five days ago) in this post:

"We are doing our best to address these issues and concerns. Please understand that fixing and implementing these things takes time, as all things do. Until the patches are finalized, I'm afraid it would be a disservice to both the community and our developers if I were to provide incomplete information. Our team is hard at work as we speak, and we will provide an update once we have finalized information."

Translation:

"I am unable to respond, or I am unwilling to respond.  Further demands on information will get you nothing. On this matter, there is nothing more to be said."

Incidentally, that was also that BioWare employee's final response in the PC Community Concerns thread, now with 3300+ posts (and counting!)  The significance of the silence is left as an exercise to the reader.

Ok. I have now been playing 50hrs of DA:I since applying the 'kill explorer' workaround. Null, nada and 0 crashes! It is now safe to say that the crashes is linked to the windows environment somehow. Wether it is some z-index issue or whatever, i can't say. I've wrote down a list of things that might help those of you still struggling:

On Win 7, 64bit:

1. No Aero (my comp is mainly used for musicproduction and gaming, so memhogging bling shite doesn't interest me) just plain classic mode

2. Nothing running in the background/tray (only Eset Nod32 Antivirus prog temporary set to disabled while gaming)

3. No internet (temporary disable your local area connection by rightclicking and disable)

4. 'Disable Origin in game'

5. Kill explorer.exe (after booting up DA:I, ctrl-Alt-Del, open taskmanager and remove explorer.exe, close taskmanager and you'll be returned to DA:I menu.

I realise this is a ridiculous approach to the problem but it is absolutely bulletproof for me. And before you say anything, I had every possible error listed above before this 'fix'. Hope it helps and good luck!

This is a very minor bug compared to what a lot of people seem to be suffering, but has any workaround been discovered regarding the sudden voice change for the Inquisitor when meeting [certain character] and doing [specific action]? It's a jarring, immersion-breaking bug that my very limited tech knowledge says shouldn't be too hard to fix.

What has seemed to help me with directx errors is to use the nvidia "optimize" feature from geforce experience.  It supposedly chooses the best settings for you based on which card you have.  for me it set Tessalation to Low and turned off MSAA and made a few other tweaks, but mostly let the settings at high or better, I have a GTX 660.
