Same story for me -- over and over until I run out of resources, I make 5 robes with 20-30% chance of masterwork, receive nothing, and then reload to rinse and repeat those 5 attempts. Really, I just give up. Thanks, Bioware. :(

From what I'm seeing, the system they put in place to prevent save scumming is this:

1. Each type of random masterwork material is considered separate.

2. At some point, the game makes a determination about how many of an individual type of item you must use before the masterwork succeeds.

3. Restarting the game will not change this number.

So, if you use five Dragon's Teeth in a row, and none give a Masterwork, those five dragon teeth will never succeed, no matter what you do.

If the sixth Dragon Tooth succeeds, it will always succeed. If I try making items with, say, Great Bear Claws, that does not change the fact I still need to use six dragon teeth to get a mastework proc.

Basically, the ideal way to get a masterwork is to save the game and use one particular type of random masterwork item repeatedly to make mutiple low material cost items until it succeeds. Keep track of how many you had to use.

Reset, then blow the random masterwork items on low material cost items until you reach that number again, then make the item you really want to make using the random masterwork item.

So, say I wanted to make a first enchanter staff with +10% stats using Dragon Teeth. As an example:

1. Save the game

2. Begin making Round Shields using Dragon Teeth.

3. I find that the fifth Round Shield procs the Masterwork.

4. Reload my save.

5. Make FOUR Round Shields using Dragon Teeth.

6. Make the First Enchanter Staff (using the best mats I have) with a Dragon Tooth. It will always be a masterwork.

Small comfort if you use up all the masterwork mats you have and none of them proc.

On xbox one... I've tried many items weapons and armor.. together or separate at the same or different times... on atleast 2 different char's... and the great bear claws have never ever procced at all for me. that is using them about 300 times... so they may be bugged for xbone.. }:-)

The masterwork effect is very glitched, there are glitches that cause masterwork materials to work every time no matter the percent and some that cause them to never work, which material gets this effect seems to be different every time and the only work around I found is that it can sometimes be undone if you use the material enough times (around 10) in a short amount of time.

I have tried to make a staff using dragon's tooth (40% crafting chance) about 15 times .  Craft, if not masterwork reload and so fort.... it never worked.

My personal favorite solution to the crafting system: Cheat Engine yourself a pile of masterworks and craft 500 times til that "30% chance" works. Vendor the wasted ones. Save yourself a bunch of time reloading and hoping. It was designed to be tedious, and ain't nobody got time.

30% chance to give 10% to all stats (armour/damage and bonuses).

I can confirm that reloading and trying DOES work (at least on the PC) so others will long dry runs will simply be unlucky. (After all, it is 30% for each attempt, regardless how many times you've attempted it.)

My first bearpaw was successful. My second one wasn't, so I reloading and tried again. That time it was. I still have one bearpaw.

Functionally that means the only difference between this and the Dragon Tooth (100% for 10%) is how much save-scumming you have to do.

It might be different for consoles though.

Ditto.  Spent time getting the schematic and resources and like you tried 10 - 15 times to make a masterwork staff with dragon's tooth and it never worked.  I finally give up and stopped playing.

Ahhhhhhh - a total pain but at least I understand it better now. Thanks :)

This is correct. But it does armor and damage values as well.

Using the crit masterwork items are pretty nice at times. Here's a Tier 2 dagger I've crafted at level 12 (Now level 15) - doubt I'll replace it until I find a Tier 3 that I can crit as well. Specially since the highest DPS dagger I've yet to find was 254, and most are ~190ish (and have a level requirement that I've yet to reach | And yes I know the +20 to living ups the DPS number, but it's still over 300 w/o it)

Spoiler

There are other master craft items that aren't % chance to increase stats that are pretty nice as well. Like the one that gives 3 guard on hit, get 2 daggers with those and your DW Rogue will generate guard to immensely up his or her survivability.

thats sweet, Ive found some VERY high 280s++ in Du Lion, in loot
