IB: Do you think if I hit a guy up top and you hit him on the bottom we could make him flip?
Cass: Flip?
IB: Yeah, flip. That's always been a dream of mine. Like, you know, ass over teakettle.
Viv: You're not flipping anything over my teakettle.
Cass: (long pause) Yeah, I guess we could do that.

Just picturing Viv sitting there, drinking tea, and then looking up as someone goes hurtling past her.

I just finished the "In Hushed Whispers" main quest and just.... wow. Great story quest. Hopefully it only gets better from there.

 

Anyways, I took Blackwall, Varric, and Dorian was a required companion. But I realized... they have amazing chemistry. Varric and Dorian are wise-cracking smartasses, and Blackwall is the serious guy with the amazing dry wit.

 

It's like they're all perfect for my Inquisitor. I think I just found my permanent party. To be fair though, I haven't picked up Iron Bull yet (which I realize now that I should have done BEFORE I finished "In Hushed Whispers"... *facepalm*), so there's always a chance I'll bring him along some.

Question though: how do you respond/talk in party banters on PC? I have no idea!

You can't respond to every banter...if you can a dialogue wheel shows up

Had this trigger in the Hinterlands near Redcliffe:

Sera: Red? No wait, robin's egg blue!

Cassandra: What are you doing?

Sera: Trying to guess the color of your underwear.

Cassandra: I don't wear underwear.

Sera: (pauses awkwardly for a moment, then starts laughing) Did you hear what she said?

I'm not sure if Cassandra was serious or if she was just trying to shut Sera up.

Anyone else having trouble getting banter to fire? I've been wandering around the hinterlands for hours with different parties and nothing's triggering. I heard loads of banter in the beginning (with solas/cass/varric). Maybe it's because I haven't really started doing main story missions yet? I've done a ton of side quests but I haven't actually gone to support either the templars or the mages yet.

 

With what frequency does banter trigger for you guys?

Same here. I have like 42 hours, never use a mount EVER for fear of missing party banters but have only gotten like 10 total (possibly less)

Same. The banter I have heard has been great, but it's incredibly rare. Although, I think part of my problem is that I'm taking Dorian and Cassandra with me everywhere and they just don't seem to have much to say to each other, which is unfortunate since those two are by far my favorite Dragon Age characters ever. I've gotten one where she told him he's not as handsome as he thinks he is and he said if she's been pondering his handsomeness than he obviously is if she's been spending time thinking about it. The other one was them discussing their fathers, but it wasn't as insightful as I would have expected it to be.

Cassandra: I haven't even told you what I heard.

Dorian: Doesn't matter. All true. Particularly the part with the grapes and feathers.

Cassandra: Oh, I was leading towards that one, actually.

Yeah the banter has been pretty rare in the Hinterlands but once you all hit Emerald Graves, kicks up like wildfire every 10 or 15 mins or so.

It's weird. Right after I posted that they suddenly got super-chatty (my party was Solas/Blackwall/Cole). I was at the storm coast and just wandering around doing Blackwall's Grey Warden missions, and they just started talking. It was kinda surreal.

Dorian: Oh? Why not?

Blackwall: You think mages will be better off if people know they can change the future?

Dorian: Ignoring that that's not the case, I suspect "people" will use any excuse to hate us.

Blackwall: Then you should not give them more.

Dorian: Did everyone act like this when the sword was invented? "Oh, my blushing butt cheeks! Round up everyone who can use these pointy things and lock them away!"

Blackwall: It is not the same thing, and you know it.

Cutlery!  Not sure of the exact words, but it was Varric asking Vivienne whether or not using the wrong fork at a social function was tantamount to treason or just "social suicide".  Her response about not really knowing because the offending party was promptly killed with the appropriate fork had me laughing so hard I had to pause the game.

My normal party is Dorian, Cassandra, and Cole. I have barely gotten any banter at all. I went an entire 4 hours in the Exalted Plains and maybe heard banter twice during that entire span.

Only two I remember mostly are the continuing conversation Varric and Dorian have as to whether I'll live or die. It goes on over several quests too and the bet keeps changing. 

 

Then not really funny or anything but Blackwall and Dorian are SO god damn hostile at first but after Blackwall's personal quest it changes and I liked that.

 

I did use Vivienne and Blackwall for a bit and man he hits on her HARD. Like "Are you alright Lady Vivienne, in that last battle you got hit" and she just laughs at his simple minded ways. Then I think he offered to clean her boots from all the mud.

Yes, I was romancing Dorian and had options to shut it down or the witty "I'll take that bet!" which led to it continuing to rise and Dorian getting all giddy.

I really like this thread and it's not (just) because I started it.

I just wish any of this actually triggered in mu apparently-glitched game. Trying not to read it in the seemingly vain hopes banter will ever pop up on my file...
