So I recently encountered Despair Demons in the river next to Redcliffe Farms. I went to the rift thinking this was a normal wave of demons that needed to be killed in order to destroy the rift. I was wrong. In a matter of seconds I found my whole team dead at he hand of  a Despair Demon except myself. I fled to the nearest camp and healed my team and decided not to fight there until ive grinded a bit. A few hours passed and i've completely explored the Stormy Coast, I went back to the rift near Redcliffe Farms and found the fight with the first Despair Demon a lot easier and managed to kill it. After that two more spawned and found my team dead yet again...Are they supposed to be this op? It seems really random that they're this strong. No other rifts around me are as difficult as this one. This is located in the Hinterlands on  normal difficulty.

Check their level before engaging. They're level 13 and you're probably 8-ish?

Yeah thanks. I just found it odd for them to be at that location. They're by far the hardest opponent in the Hinterlands

That was exactly the encounter that makes me check level before I engage anything now, yes.

It's not only their level, but they are difficult due to their kit / AI (they can teleport, have insane barriers and tons of CC).

 

Sure there are ways to deal with them fast (like dispelling their barrier with your mage, or OHK combo with your mage freeze and your archer detonator etc) but they are not to be underestimated by any means!

There's a reason despair got its own classification higher than sloth.

oh thank god they're lvl 13 i was getting depressed because i thought i was just terrible rofl thanks
