This sounds like my gripe with my 1st Female Shep. I romanced no one in 1 and Thane in 2. I kept Ash alive and got to 3 and my only options were Liara & Traynor. Liara is a best bud and I can't stand Traynor, so she had no one. I started a Female character in this game and was going to romance Solas as I really like him, but you have to play a female Elf only and she was just to dang thin and looked horrid out of armor. I tried but dang in her casual outfit her head looked like it was going to break off with how thin she was. I will probably go with Cullen just because when you flirt with him he is so awkward and reminds me of Alistair, whom I adore in his goofy unsure and sometimes funny ramblings.

I always thought it was cool as heck with the romance thing in BioWare games, but lousey choices make it almost a pain anymore.

Yep. People actually forget that there is always another option to everything, including romance and relationships, be it in game or in real life.

Walking away from it, being indifferent to it and rejecting it.

Bachelorhood, as far as I can tell, is paradise.

Dear SetSailForFail,

I am a straight male and in complete agreement with you. In my canon playthrough, that is to say the playthrough that I would make the decisions and choices that I would make myself, meaning I roleplay as myself, I did not pick any love interest for my character since Dragon Age 2. For the simple reason that none of the romanceable female characters were appealing to me personally.

DAI romance is even more disappointing thant DA2 because all the love interests in game are nothing but trophies to be earned and a pixelated ideal to be pleased. There is no chance for equal relationship in DA:I. The followers and advisers never try to make it clear that they are interested in you, they never initiate anything with you and the never give anything to you.

In DAO, followers who are interested in your Warden will change their dialogue, attempt to initiate a relationship and give you gifts. Morrigan becomes girlishly cute, Leliana fumbles with her words, Zevran becomes more committed and Alistair becomes a hopeless romantic. Morrigan gives you a ring, Alistair a rose and Zevran gives you earrings.

In DAI you Inquisitor has to do everything from flirting to romance initiation to gift giving. The romances felt awfully one sided. I thought Bioware set out to make them more realistic but they are not, the romances in the game turn out to be your being a hopeless puppy dog trying to please and flirt with a particular love interest and like some metaphorical god receiving their subjects' adoration, at some point, they accept your romance advances.

It is frankly pathetic.

Like you, I prefer Morrigan and hardened Leliana.

However, since this is a roleplaying game, I do roleplay other characters with their own set of personalities who I do involve in the romances.

Having said that, I doubt you will effect anything here since when it comes to straight males, BSN automatically spews shame, dismissal and disregard. It is odd and hypocritical, given that they expect us to care about other sexualities but they never extend the same courtesy.

Cool story brah.

Just because the romances available to you (hint: they all are. You do not have to play a straight, male Inquisitor) don't appeal to your very specific tastes does not mean they're bad. Literally every character can be dismissed as a boring archetype if you're already disinclined to like them. Yes, that includes Morrigan and Leliana.

I think Cass and Josie are pretty great. Maybe you just have bad taste?

Good grief.

Does anyone have demographic numbers for DA:I?

I don't but I gotta think the majority of people playing the game are straight male gamers.  Would anyone disagree with that?  Why then is it surprising to anyone that when there are crappy love interests for male straight players they complain the loudest?  The love interests in DA:I for the average male straight gamer are pretty crappy.  You can argue taste, you can dismiss them with snide remarks, you can do whatever you want.  But you can't claim that it's not true.  You wouldn't have threads like these popping up multiple times a day if it weren't true.

Personally, as a male straight gamer, I find the Cassandra romance interesting even if I'm not overly attracted to her personality so I'm not too upset but honestly, why get mad at people who are?  They have every right to be, and as the largest video game demographic it would probably be smart for Bioware to pay attention.

OMG, get OVER yourself.  Explain to me, please, O might straight dude, how Bioware is showing any preference for gay men by giving the THE EXACT SAME NUMBER OF OPTIONS YOU HAVE?

Guess what, dudebro? As a representative of bisexual men, let me assure you that nobody expects you to care about our sexuality.  We only ask that you stop acting like we're anathema and stop treating people badly because they like something you don't.

Honestly, one more topic like that and I'll be glad that "straight male players" don't have sh*t this time, because I've never seen someone whining more then them.

Wait?!?!

BioWare didn't add in any heterosexual male options? Was this announced?

I guess my original approach stands. Forget this game.

Yes, let us practice censorship ala 1984. People should be allowed to voice their opinions. If there are so many straight males who either complain or straight up say that they do not want to romance anyone in the game, shouldn't someone look into why that is ?

If that is because the women available do not match to our standards, shouldn't that opinion be allowed to expressed instead of shaming ?

Have you actually read 1984?  Because I don't think, based on this post, that you actually know what you're talking about.

First, nothing in that quote of yours suggests censoring anyone; it suggests comparing how many straight male guys ****** about these things as compared to gay men or gay women, to see which group complains the most.

There are heterosexual male options. Blackwall, Cullen, and Solas are all straight guys. If you mean women available for straight male players then there are Cassandra and Josephine.

It very well may be that they complain the most because there are a lot more of them.  Like...a lot more.  The rate at which they complain might not be higher, there's just more of them, so you see more complaints.

As a Straight Male Gamer ™ I'm outraged that there's no War Table mission where I can dispatch my advisers to find me a girlfriend, plus a Character Creator so that I can design her to look exactly how I want. They could call it OkUrthemiel.

Dorian is smart, handsome, funny and agnostic. If I was gay, I would have gone for him in an instant.

Cassandra has more sword than sense, has a poor taste in literature, is big on faith nonsense and she is not pretty.

Josephine is cute and adorable but romancing politicians ? I do not make a habit of fully trusting and opening up to any politician.

We only ask that you stop acting like we're anathema and stop treating people badly because they like something you don't.

Who are treating you badly ? We are making threads on a forum addressing our discontent with the love interest.

Are people playing the game, or looking at a short description/screenshot to make judgements? Sure, Cassandra is a tough as nails warrior, but there's other sides to her too - funny, easily flustered, and filled with self doubt. She really warms up when romanced. It's probably too late for some, but if you haven't made up your mind, there's more to Cass (and really, all the characters) than is apparent on the surface.

Okay. If I play a female player character, I will still select options based upon my sexuality. Sure, the relationship will seem gay: however, I will be role-playing it as a heterosexual. I will be seeing the world through a heterosexual lens. So, the options for heterosexual relationships are broader. Not a big deal. My female avatar will be dating females through the eyes of a heterosexual male. Not a problem.

I guess that would make my player character a transavatar. rofl...

Ugh.  Can we just create one thread for this and sticky it at the top of the sub-forum page?  This way there won't be three or four threads a day that all say the same thing and devolve into the same arguments from the same people.....?

So she is some Tsundere ice queen goddess that my Inquisitor has to failingly flirt with and try to please at every occasion only to get some tiny reciprocation at the end ?

A cost benefit analysis on the Inquisitor's part will show that the costs of romancing Cassandra outweigh the benefits. For one thing my Inquisitor is pro mage, he allied with the rebel mages, he is not keen on this herald superstition nonsense, he is not religious, he is not the type to who likes to take direct frontal action without thinking about it, he is not the type to take things too seriously, he is not into romantic smutty literature and poems.

To romance Cassandra would mean my Inquisitor has to essentially suspend his personality and be a hopelessly romantic puppy dog. Which I will not do.
