It's taken for granted among devs that gamepads are the norm and m&kbers are some kind of fossilized dinosaur.
Those morons might want to watch the League of Legends or DOTA2 World Championships.

How marketers see the world and how the world actually is. *shrug*

I really want to love this game but I find myself fighting the controls and the console action playstyle every step of the way.
Yeah same. If they hadn't been hyping the PC-ness of DAI, I probably would be enjoying the game more. My expectations would have been lower and I would have picked up the PS4 version and just playing it like the Action-RPG it is, instead of the CRPG I want it to be (and Bioware lied about it being).
Well, see, here's the thing. I don't hate the game. I want to love the game. It's just that I really am having difficulty forcing myself to make the way that it currently plays.
The mouse doesn't even work in half the conversations and I find myself having to use the number keys on the keyboard. Fortunately there's usually a good warning (a lag spike then the centre of the conversation wheel flashes briefly after which the mouse just stops working altogether).
I duno why but it makes me sad because these controls and the designs around these controls are some of the worst I have ever seen.
I could have refunded but I waited. I will give them a chance to fix this with patches but if that doesn't happen I am never buying another bioware game again. Period.
They're still mad at us about that whole Mass Effect 3 thing probably.

Despite the fact that that's complete nonsense? Wow. Just wow. ![]()
2 Things that i don't get....spamming the search button....bad really bad.
And the tactical....omg hello i can't see anything using that.....who ever was in charge of
that needs to be fired now!!!! And get the video drivers fixed please......thanks!
Just to chime in here; I hate the control scheme for PC. It basically makes the game unplayable for me. I pre-ordered it, even paid extra for same day shipping, and waited through the long install.
First after starting the game, the mouse was all screwed up. It would not actually activate any of the controls. Restarting the game fixed that.
Then, having to hold the right mouse button to look; that was just abysmal. Trying to move my character to pick up loot.. awkward and frustrating. Having to constantly hit the left mouse key to attack - inane.
OK, I admit, I also kept hitting space, causing my character to jump when I wanted to pause. After a couple of hours, I just walked away from the game. I am stuck at the first boss fight, have died three times because I cannot control my character intuitively. I have no intention of playing this game; and that from someone who has literally, hundreds upon hundreds of hours in DA:O and DA:2 (and bought all the expansions/DLC).
But, I am not playing this. And I am not buying another Bioware product, ever, unless they fix the PC controls.
All I want is mouse look, click to move (and interact with the environment) and of course, auto-attack. This is the way the other games played, and it is the way I expected this game to play. I do not think I am being entitled, or whiny in expecting a rational, workable and PROVEN control scheme.
If they do not value the PC market; then it is simply time to find other games, from other developers.
For better or worse, though, Bioware seem to be the only producers who take their time to write good stories with good characters and a high degree of freedom. I'm not aware of any serious competitors in this respect. =(
I do belive the latest Dragon Age game could be great, but I have not been able to enjoy it.
We all know Bioware dropped the ball on the PC controller (mouse/keyboard).
The question is if Bioware considers PC players valueable enough to keep in the long run.
I am guessing, that Bioware and distributors was adjusting their product based on speculation that console based games would be the norm 2014/15, and therefor de-prioritized any PC speciific adjustment required for it's platform.
If the PC controllers are not fixed, I have a bad feeling this is the last big selling game for PC from Bioware for awhile.
Anyone else have that prediction or gut feeling? Or maybe i am the only one?
So this cannot be fixed with a patch.? dont have much issues with the controller to be honest. and what is your issue with the controllers anyway. instead of feedback i get some tears stained thread that's useless.
But i generally enjoy this stupid ****, complaining about minor issues. Or even better complaining that the game was not what they expected it to be despite the colossal amount of information out their. I will them they are idiots for not doing their homework.

There aren't any. Not even close.
The more i think about it, the more i become sad. I had so much hope for this Game. Sad...sad...sad.

Same here.
I am a Dragon Age fanboy. Hell, I am a Bioware fanboy.
I want to love this game, but the controls make playing it just pure frustration.

Yeah it seems they listened to Marketing, or possibly Electronic Arts forced them to make the PC controls similar to console ones because everyone knows EA is interested ONLY in it's profits (why they force developers to release buggy games) and if the game played better on a PC then a console that might hurt EAs push for console games.
That said, I'm curious, did anyone at Bioware actully try to play the game using mouse/keyboard or did they just make sure it was functional? I can't believe they let it out the door with that total mess of a tactical combat system.
They're still mad at us about that whole Mass Effect 3 thing probably.
LOL!
I'm honestly waiting for the patch before I continue to really play it. I want to have a good experience and right now this tactical cam doesn't offer that. It only offers frustration. I hope they can introduce a more origin-feel for the tactical mode.
To be fair console and PC platforms have many issues. I bet the dev teams are working long hours to solve these problems.... long hours.... long, long hours.... been there, done that... have seen the mess mngt pushed through untested code that broke production stable systems because of unmovable target dates.
Support the small fry (developers), 'cause they get the brunt of the complaints and made to work in the salt mines.... expecially the support guys who had no idea the S**T they were handed.
Just saying...
I'm sorry but I'm not finding the game to be as bad as all of you guys are saying here. The controls are different yes but they are not horrible. I was able to get used to them in a couple hours. If you have played any MMO's games its not hard to get the hang of them.
Granted I would have been happy with the DAO controls scheme they did have to put this on a new engine that was basically built for FPS games. The engine its very nice and the game looks better than any DA or ME game before though so I can deal with the control changes. To me it plays list most MMO RPG games.
I have adjusted, somewhat. I like the game... but Tactics and TAC CAM ? they need work...
