Forget about the heads, wait till you see the necks in some cutscenes.

 

See if you can maintain immersion when your protagonist cranes his neck like a giraffe.

Yes. It's not hard. You just have to plan ahead.

I'd suggest starting at the chin and working up. Shorten the chin as far as it will go. Then move the mouth up so the chin doesn't look stupid. Then place the nose relative to the mouth. Now lower the eyes.
