I just opened up the judgement system in my game and it's really interesting. I wanted to know which characters have been brought before you, what you've done with them, and what the consequences have been.

Kanedax, how did you get the option to conscript? I only had exile, killing or imprisonment for life. As for OP posts I have sent the goat throwing guy off into exile, exiled the mayor and had the lady do honest work for me who was selling red lyrium. I believe those are all the ones I have had thus far.

Do perks affect the options you have, or is it something you do during any given quest?

I put everyone I can to work for the Inquisition. Mostly because they count as Inquisition perks for the purpose of "you can't buy this until you spend 4 perks in this category." In case of what I WANT to do...

Alexius, I actually feel bad for. Had his crimes literally any other motivation, I would want him made tranquil because it is the harshest punishment possible. But... he was trying to save his son. If anyone says they wouldn't do anything, anything to save their children, then they're either not a parent or shouldn't be one.

The Mayor of Crestwood, I don't even chase down. He made a very hard decision and his conscience is giving him enough.

I haven't bothered to bring Samson back yet, but when I do, he will receive the harshest possible punishment. It's a shame that this wasn't a darker game so I could order him tortured to death.

The Dutchess, I'd have taken her head if I had the choice. It seems the only chance I got to take it was at the Ball. I let her hace it there because it wasn't my call. I'm not judge jury and executioner of Val Royeaux. That's the Empress' territory.

Can't think of any others atm.

I loved the Sit in Judgement stuff. I wish there had been a lot more of it. Was probably one of my favorite things to do.

I had killed the Dutchess at the Ball, so they brought me her dead, rotting corpse in a box to pass judgement on. I couldn't stop laughing, though I felt bad for Josie who sounded like she was going to throw up at the smell.

If you have the arcane perk you can put Alexius to work for the inquisition as an agent under Leliana.

If you have the noble perk you can put the duchess to work for the inquisition as an agent under Josephine.

Servis I had the criminal knowledge perk and made him an agent under Leliana.

Mistress Poulin after gathering the evidence against her in the quarry and confronting her in the village after before I sat in judgement allowed me to conscript her into using all the money rebuild the town and pay reparations to the family

Thom Rainer I really wanted to lop his head off but I turned him over to the wardens when all was said and done.

Samson I gave him to Cullen.  Did a save where I gave him to Dagna but she only got two master corrupting runes out of the deal so I reloaded... seemed blah.

I gave the mayor to Denerim.  Didn't see why I should have jurisdiction over crimes committed before the Inquisition was formed.

Ser Ruth I sentenced her to the deep roads.  Hindsight probably should have just turned her over to the wardens.

Goat man got sent to Tevinter and resupplied.  Other than gibblet no real strong option there :P

I know you need the arcane magic perk in secrets in order to spare Alexius and allow him to work for the inquisition. As far as the other perks go, I am still trying to figure that out. I wish now I hadn't chased the mayor down. I am a big softie and don't particularly care for doling out punishments.

I'm not keen on hunting down the mayor. Even Cassandra points out that he was desperate and probably did the only option available to him other than having everyone die by Blight. I reckon I'm going to leave the poor bugger be.

I liked the guy that attacks Skyhold with a goat. I gave him a lot of weapons and exiled him to Tevinter.

btw do not use the criminal knowledge perk when judging servis. He only becomes and informant if you choose it. Also i am not sure if we get anything when we choose him as a smuggler. I got no agent, no war table mission nothing.

Alexius - Assigned to work as an Inquisition agent

Florianne - Sentenced to work with the common folk doing farmwork

Mistress Poulin - Forced to pay reparations to the village

Mayor of Crestwood - Sent to Denerim for judgment

Servis - Executed

Ser Ruth - Sentenced to the Deep Roads

Thom Rainer - Given to the Grey Wardens for judgment

Avaar Barbarian Chief - Sent to Tevinter with arms

Samson - Given to Cullen for supervision

I think that this is all of them in the order that I got them.

My favorite judging scene is the one where you have to judge the dead version of Florianne.

I did sentence Florianne to a life of flats though, which felt good.

Alexius - Sent to prison

Florianne corpse - 'There has been a precedent...' option

Servis - Inquisition Informant (that did NOT go over well with companions)

Ser Ruth - Sentenced to the Deep Roads

Thom Rainer - Let go free

Avaar Barbarian Chief - Sent to Tevinter with arms

Samson - Given to Dagna for...experimentation (she's creepy and just enough crazy to make this decision a BAD one)

I lopped off someone's head, but I can't recall who.

I haven't had a whole bunch of judgement so far, but I think I made some mistakes that I will try and correct on my next playthrough.

  • Avarr Chieftain:  Was "Gifted" To Tevinter along with arms and followers.
  • Alexius:  Was sentenced to serve the Mages, which I thought was poetic justice.
  • Servis: I messed this up.  I thought when I picked "Smuggler" that was my choice for him work as an agent. but I suspect it was the "Informant-Under Probation"
  • Mayor of Crestwood: I chopped his head off.  Logical or not, his decision was a death-sentence on numerous innocents without due process or authority.
  • Mistress Poulin: I sentenced her to serve as a scribe for the inquisition, and she seemed to think that was somehow worse than death.

I strongly suspect the best way to do the judgements is to wait til going through most of the main quests before judging.  Reading this thread allows me to see that some options open up after key events and I think there are more that have yet to be revealed so far.

I had him beheaded.  He could easily have let them all fend for themselves and chose not to.

I can't really recall all the judgements I've made, though I know I haven't had anybody executed, but here are the ones I remember:

Alexius, for example, was forced to research magic for the Inquisition, his arcane knowledge was just too valuable, and I felt sorry for his son.

The mayor of Crestwood... sent to prison in Denerim, so he may live in self torment.

Avvaar chief was sent to Tevinter, as a "gift" to fight the Qunari.

Wanted Servis to be my agent, but he didn't show up.

Pouline works for me, and half her salary goes to her village.

Samson became a test subject for Dagna.

Florienne's corpse... had a special option due to one of my perks, that's what I chose.

Erimond got the worst of all: I made him Tranquil. Oh, the look of terror on his stupid face. My mage-allies didn't like it, but accepted it because I'm a mage too.

YES.

The "Community Service" option is the most hilarious line in the whole game.

I chopped off as many heads as possible. What is the point of being allowed to judge if you aren't going to chop off heads?

I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't chop Rainer's head off.
