So I hit a brick wall a little while back in the game, and after some tinkering decided that it was my inferior equipment that was the problem. I was able to equip better weapons for my party to get past that part.

However, I've hit another rough patch, and I believe it's being caused by inferior armor. Basically, my characters' armor is too weak for my party to defeat the monsters they are encountering, especially since they seem to uniformly be a few levels above my party (i'm level 9, and the foes i'm coming up against are levels ten to twelve). I want to upgrade my armor, but I'm having issues. Basically, I've been checking every merchant i come across for schematics, but so far I have not seen a single schematic aside from the basic tier 1 scout armor schematic. Do you guys have any advice for increasing my party's effective toughness or efficiency in combat? How about finding schematics that will let me equip my party a little better?

Thanks for the help guys :)

Don't fight those enemies, go level up somewhere else.

Enemies EVERYWHERE seem to be sitting around level 12. I even went back to the Hinterlands to do some quest grinding and half the mobs there are high level as well.

I don't understand how this works. I've tried buying upgrade pieces for my companions but those of lower level and matching grade won't even be put on. I've got loads of armor that's one level above most of my characters now but I'm not sure if I should just sell them for schemetics and raw materials. I can't even

Andreas are you meaning you cannot equip your companions?

Is there a good tutorial around for the armor and weapon customizations/crafting?  As usual, this confuses the hell out of me, with the schematics, runes, slots etc. lol.  I always have a steep learning curve with this kind of stuff for some reason.

I actually didn't do the Haven battle until level 8-10ish. I stood around, fought EVERYTHING i saw. Do every last sidequest. If you think of it like this, Area's are considered like tiers. With some exceptions. The Fallow Mire is near unlimited spawn when you walk in the water, grinding there is not impossible.

Im acctually at a point, similiar to yours, but its more an issue with Schematics and Materials. Most Mage Schematics i find are really bad. Wouldn't mind a Keeper Schematic or somthing.

But, Do every side quest and kill everything you see. Increase your level. Kill Dragons. Operations, etc.

I suggest making specialized parts, Arms and Legs/Hats for resistances for specific area's if your having troubles.

I found a lot of schematics. All of them are at Val Royeaux. There is a merchant at right side of town on map. Just go to that garden, then go up stairs and at the end of wall there will be doors to merchant shop. Be warned - best schematics cost roughly 3k gold. Only problem for me are materials.

My problem is, I can't figure how to upgrade my weapons. I have plenty of schematics, crafted some nice stuff, and made upgrades for them, but when I go to upgrade them, I keep being told I have no upgrades. I checked to make sure I made a grip for a dagger, and I did, but it just tells me I have no upgrades for the daggers I made with an open grip slot. I feel the weapon system for the game wasn't designed very well. I want to make my weapons and armor better, but it's very difficult to do so, if at all.

Don't go to that guy in Val Royeaux. He's Orlesian and he'll rip you off.

There's a nice friendly dwarf in Redcliffe who has recently come up to the surface and sells good schematics for a little over 100 bucks.

To upgrade your weapons you have to go to that smithy in Haven and go to the modify weapons table and work that menu. If you do not have the proper materials like 10 fox fur or 3 rams horns then you do not have the required goods. Same goes for crafting stuff. Also I believe that not all weapon additions work with every weapon and not every armor addition works with every armor. Or did I misunderstand?

For some reason I haven't had any trouble at all with anything...

ive found that (at least in normal difficulty) armor doesnt play a huge part unless youre like a tank. or even as a mage tank (knight-enchanter) armor doesnt play a huge part. for instance my mage-knight enchanter is wearing the same first craftable piece of gear I've been wearing since the first time I set food in haven and I do fine at the end of act 2. hell I was even in the last fight in the palace (trying to be vague to avoid spoilers) and I didnt know that I could equip my armor again so my whole party was still wearing formal wear... we died a bit but once I stopped dicking around i was able to get through it pretty easily.
