I am struggling with how combat works in DAI. I am a Duel Weilding Rogue on a PC and am annoyed by how the combat system works.

When not in tactical mode I am forced to repeatedly hit the left mouse button which I can accept, but I don't like that I am also forced to WASD and move and follow my target around as they move as well. In DA2, once you selected your target your player's AI would follow your target as you fought. I would be willing to accept all of this if, once after I killed my first enemy, my player wouldn't just sit there until I performed another action. Unfortunately, I then have to WASD to my new target. This would also be ok if I was just able to click on a new target from a distance and my player's AI would follow and engage them. But it doesn't.

When in tactical mode I can pick my target enemy then watch the action take place. However once my first enemy is killed, I must pause and reselect another target and do the same thing over again. This can prove to be annoying as you then can't "roll in" to see the action. There must be a better way.

I was not a huge fan of some of the aspects of DA2 combat either, but I now seem to prefer DA2 combat over this. I am thinking about changing my character to a ranged shooter so I don't have to WASD all over the place while fighting because then I won't have to folllow my target around.

Does anyone out there agree with my issues and or have any suggestions?

This wont bring back your preferred method of click to move auto attack, but instead of A and D is your turning controls, hold the right mouse button and steer with the mouse.  You will still need to W and S for forward and back, but for me I have a much finer control if I steer with the mouse.

A and D kind of become strafe buttons in this mode as well while the right mouse button is held.

I don't use tactical mode but since I'm running a Sword and board I think there the easiest to play since you move in and press button abilities.  With an Archer you have to select you target with the right click then press an abilities button.  Sound more difficult.

With a rogue you're stealthing attacking from behind.  This game seems to be all about spamming abilities not left clicking.  I think I'll leave the rogue for last since that seems hardest but leaving Cole on AI is awesome sauce .

Agreed. That's what I have been doing is using the mouse, but an "Auto Attack" would be much better.

What you want to do is use TAB to cycle through targets to the enemy you want.  I think TAB also enables autofacing as well which would help you melee guys stay engaged with your target as well (unsure on that as I'm ranged and haven't played with melee much yet).

On PS4 you can just hold the attack button down instead of mashing. Might work the same on PC.

Yes, holding down the Left Mouse Button or R? continously autoattacks.

Amazing how Bioware cannot get simple things right!  DA:O and DA:II, I would just use my mouse to click and attack - nothing else needed.  This silly mouse & keyboard junk is ruining the game.  I am seriously thinking of asking for a refund and swearing off Bioware forever!

Buy a controller and hook it upt to the PC. You play the game like this:

You're welcome.

Holding down the R key's working for me.  Now if I can just stop hitting the space bar to pause.  It's taking getting used to.
