dragon age keep is honestly terrible

if TL; DR:

1) keep is awful--too many import/export errors

2) DA:I should have loaded form our real save files

3) Give us option at START to VIEW the most basic tapestry information to avoid the game loading an incorrect file

4) There should AT VERY LEAST be a way to load the previous heroes even if you can't change their choices once a play through has started

I'm a little upset cause I spent all week playing through the bugs and crashes and the fact my character has no arms in any cutscene because the story is great and i have no problem with the gameplay at all... that said...

i did dragon age keep, my characters are loaded there and my stories are correct.  i just never noticed in-game until 30 hours into DA:I that the choices weren't actually accurate until i reached Hawke... I have no option to choose my female hawke.  so once again like so many otehr bugs, i put my entire day on hold to solve this problem instead of being able to play.... and i find out the the playthrough save state is not at all my "default world state" (as it is inappropriately named imo) which contains my custom characters.  (all play through on all DA games are PC and 1 single account, just fyi...not cross platform errors or multiple account errors)

if this had worked like all your other games previously, i wouldn't be stuck with this because it should have loaded form the save files directly. after over an hour of finding the problem and finding out there is no actual way to correct the problem... it looks like the only option is start completely over.

that is ridiculous.  there should absolutely be a modify this.  i know your official thread on the keep says "none of this impacts the story of inquisition"....but i'd say some dude showing up pretending to be my female hawke is a pretty blatant example of it affecting my story.  especially since ignoring this change and moving on then creates a thread i won't want through my "main" dragon age story.  assuming (and hoping) there is more to come, i still want my main story to be my mages with one continuous world.  the other characters i play can be fractured from the world and i wouldn't care but the mages i want intact.

if DA:I had given us ONE single screen at the start with 2 pictures, one of each hero, I could have said "oh those dudes aren't my female heroes.  let's fix this before i start.".... instead i find out 30 hours in.  completely annoying, more so in light of the fact you can't even change the heroes once you start.  how hard could it have possibly been to add in game "customize hero of kirkwall" and allow for female AND male options at the time of the hero's arrival?  i honestly would have done that right then and there and just changed the man to a woman instead of spending 2+ hours trying to fix my world state and then eventually coming here typing this....the choices to me could have been regretfully changed, but not an entire character... i guess technically two characters if the hero of ferelden creeps in and i haven't had that spoiled yet.

anyway...most of this is a vent but i honestly think the bad implementation of the keep, lack of preview screens, no huge signs of the world state being wrong until 30 hours in is just awful.

I feel you. I'm at 13 hours. Will restart I guess while playing it easy until where I am now.

Yeah I had to restart too because the Dragon Age Keep think didn't work.

While I was able to live with almost everything being wrong, I could not live with a male Hawke. So that was 30 hours down the drain. Hopefully this new game will have a proper female Hawke.

Considering that the world state isn't supposed to matter, I don't see why we can't load in a new world state while we are playing a game. Or at the very least when I select "Custom Hawke" allow me to change the damn gender!

After setting the story of both previous games have you watched the long animated movie and was it accurate?

and don't forget to export it AND THAT THERE IS THAT GREEN "CHECKED" symbol !

Even I played DA I and II and it has been imported into DAK , I had to correct some of the decisions as they have been wrong.

But that was only 2 hours work all in all.

Now 30h into the game AND IT LOOKS okay , what I remember !

Had they not implemented the Keep, you would have been even more SOL because of all the broken import flags between DAO and DA2. Fixing those would have required multiple patches and players actually replaying both games in full on the platform that they planned on using for DAI. So instead of screwing literally everyone over (but especially those with next gen consoles), they did something really ambitious and fiddly. Is it perfect? No. But it is at least a 75% improvement over literally every other method of importing information into DAI that they had available.

I just think the Keep is not very intuitive in that (last I looked) it did not make it abundantly clear that to make it work in inquisition, you have to

1. set up your choices IN the keep, imports are simply cosmetic

2. you have to save AND EXPORT your world state into DA:I BEFORE starting a new game there

once you know these two kinks, things should be working as intended ™

1. Plot flags from DAO and DA2 were completely borked. Trying to direct import would likely be worse than the Keep.

2. How would people who have saves on PS3/360 transfer their saves to PS4/XBone?

I think there is just some bugs right now. Give it a time, I'm sure the system will get better.

Which makes me think... does the game import the settings of your Keep once for all at the character creation or does it check it back every time you continue your party?

I am asking this because when I made that screenshot earlier I realized that it was not locked. So I did lock it and the Export button became available again. Now I am wondering if importing a Keep after starting a party might mess it up... or if not importing it would actually be worse (like the game would consider nothing was imported). The way this thing works is quite confusing and I'd wish they'd still offer to import saves for those who kept them to clear any doubt.

All I'd really like is a scroll right at the start that gives some confirmation that the Keep has loaded the correct back history. If done in lore something like either a spy report about 'Britney Cousland, Queen of Freldan, Defeater of the Brecillian Werewolves, Friend of Paragon Branka ... etc.' and 'Bob Hawke and his elven lover Fenris'. Just so you don't get 6 hrs in and find it hasn't loaded properly.

I guess you didn't watch their videos on the keep before it was released?

1. Never actually had one myself, cannot comment on that.

2. They said the coding in the previous games for it was bad and wouldn't include all of your choices, thats why you spent timing picking things out, else it would have been the default choices they chose.

3. There is the movie you can view to see each choice and correct it as it plays, it is one of the main features.

4. See 2. I loaded saves and had to pick all of my choices, since i did kill off a few characters. After I did that, and checked over them, I did my import. Info was correct, and when I got to Hawke I had to make him like everyone else. If you didn't change -anything- default save has Hawke being a human mage if I remember right, and DA:O a female dalish (what they said in the videos)

Alistair I understand, because he was a female-only option in DAO. But wasn't Anders bisexual in DA2? If so, then that's something that needs to be fixed.

I've a male Hawke who romanced Anders selected in the Keep and it's imported fine into my DAI game. Like I got the option to ask Hawke about his romance with Anders.

I'm 30 hours into the game, all still made sense and seems in line with my DAO and DA2 imported from keep.

Until a point I reached Redcliffe, finds Connor (arl eamon's son) and start talking some sh*te about King Alistair.

My warden from DAO IS the king. Alistair returned to grey warden doing wardeny thing.

Damn the keep.

It is ridiculous to restart the game after 30hs of playtime, and with no guarantee Connor will say the correct line.

Agreed. I always thought they were digging themselves a hole by having any kind of import.

Lets see.... Have I had any flag issues in DAI? No. Did I have flag issues in DA2, ME2 and ME3 because of bugs in the old game or issues with the importing? HEEL YES.

There are multiple things that could have caused it. Either you didn't export your world state, (it doesn't do that automatically, you have to manually export it) you accidentally didn't choose a custom world state when you were starting a new game, or you used a different world state since the Keep can only have one export of one world state at a time. Every time you export a different world state, it replaces the previous one that a new game will detect so you have to make sure you have the correct world state export first before making a new game.

It's bugged but for me it's not game breaking.  My female DW rogue assassin Hawke turned into a female sword and shield warrior Hawke (I double checked and it's my rogue in the Keep world state I have imported, and custom tailored in the tapestry).  I have to head canon Kit is running around in a 'bad Aveline disguise' or she decided to hang up her daggers, put on heavy metal and bash things with a heavy shield. :P

Considering she was something of a goofball to start out with, I can live with it.  Not happy, but live with it.

Well duh, the ONLY way a male could have romanced Ailistar in DA1 was with an unofficial game mod.

And there's no way they can possibly be expected to support those.

I'm pretty sure I did it right.

I open tapestry, click world icon, export it to DAI, launch DAI, new game, choose to import from keep, and compare the timestamp.

All other things seems inline, but this king Alistair bugged me.

DAO's Warden is my favorite character and I want him to be king.

Then I guess it really is a glitch. With all the other problems I've heard the game having, it's very possible that the game is messing up the import.

I'm probably just being paranoid, but does it seem the devs really want to shove that "King Alistair" outcome down our throats? I remember in my first playthrough of DAO my Warden Alistair kept going on about being king. I think it took a mod to fix that bug.

Maybe I can confirm that this is a (super annoying) glitch (for me).

I just checked keep and go to playthrough world state.

Copied to editable worldstate and view it in tapestry.

My warden IS the king in playthrough world state.
