For the past several visits to Skyhold, I've been trying to figure out how to break up with Blackwall so I can start a romance with Cullen. However, when I tell Blackwall I want to discuss our relationship, my only options are to go "never mind" or to kiss him.

So, uh, am I missing something? I'm wondering if I've been locked into the romance, despite the fact I can discuss a relationship with Cullen (who won't agree to start a relationship while I'm seeing someone.)

I'm just past the Winter Palace story plot.

I haven't tried this myself, but I saw in another thread that someone mentioned they had to progress the romance with Blackwall before they could break it off later on (they were trying to break it off so they could persue Sera but weren't getting the option to do so with him).

You need "Revelations" quest. I'm not even sure if you need to complete previous quests, maybe high approval is enough. And yeah I've watched that scene.

If I break up with Blackwall at that point (I have the same issue), will I be able to get it in with Josephine? I already finished her Du Paraquette missions.

You need to complete revelations. It reveals why he is so.. unopen and kind of quiet. Once you reveal why, you'll get the option of romancing him still or calling it off. Or, worse...

Cant seem to get to the revelation part, he does says he wants to meet me somewhere outside Skyhold, but i cant figure out where and there is no map hint.

He's in Val Royeaux.

Actualy the meeting him somewhere is before that with the thing in the stormcoast.

 

A lot of times if your not sure were you are supposed to go look in your quest journal and it will tell you.  Go to stormcoast and you should have a quest marker related to it to go too.

I completed revelations the other day and played around with the options. I did try breaking up with Blackwall but anyone else I tried to romance told me that I was involved with someone else?! Not sure if my game is bugged out somehow but I couldn't romance anyone else after the end of that quest =/

As I remember it, there are two points in the game when you can break off your relationship with Blackwall.  When you start romancing him, he'll try to deter you... then apologise and romance you for a while... then, after the Explanations quest (where you help him find the warden badge in the Storm Coast), talk to him and a scene will start in your quarters, where he again asks you to end it.  You can agree to end things there or refuse and commit to him.  The second opportunity to end the romance comes after Revelations, during a subsequent scene where you sit in judgement.  It'll be really obvious.

I came across this post last night while trying to do the same thing. 

 

You *can* breakup with Blackwall before the relationship goes anywhere. 

 

After you meet him on the Storm Coast, go back to Skyhold.  go into the barn to talk to him and it'll cutscene to the bedroom.  After the dialogue, you have two options:

No [Kiss]]

you can't put all this on me (Or something like that) <-- CHOOSE THIS OPTION.

 

The relationship ends and you're now free to jump on whatever suits your fancy

Go to the Storm Coast with him. It's up on a hill, there should be a marker for the place once you are there. If not I can try to make a screenshot (if I remember correctly) or you google it (you can do that without getting spoilers, I think).
