I only got about 4 hours into the game earlier this week before I ran into a gamebreaking bug (character record lock) and then my computer fried (DAI's heavy resource draw exposed PSU failure?)  The few dialogue choices I had so far seemed to point towards very little personality for the Inquisitor.  One of the Bioware tweeters said the Inquisitor is much more "even tone" which makes me concerned that this doesn't get any better.

Are there many options to make this character sympathetic/apathetic/snarky/hostile or is he/she more of a generic emotionless witness to the (presumably more developed) companion characters?

I am about 20 hours into the game and I have found the interactions to be much more immersive.  I have a head cannon  background for my quizzy and the dialog choices I have made thus far allow me to play her personality perfectly.  Trust me, it gets better the farther you get into the game.

Personally, I think BioWare did a pretty cool job of making the character a blank slate - yet - you are given the opportunity to flesh out and create their personality throughout the game and during conversations with party members.  They will sometimes ask you specifically "So, what do you think about yada-yada?"  This opens up a series of choices that you have based on how you want your character to be.

There is very little expounding on WHO exactly your character was prior to the events that start the game, but you can create who you want them to be as the story continues forward from there.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, both of you.  The prologue seemed to very much railroad your responses, but it seems like the game is more focused on just keeping a brisk pace at that point vs developing personalities/relationships.  Glad to hear it's well done.

Fortunately my fried rig was the best upgrade excuse I could ever give to my wife; building new rig tonight, will go from barely running on Low to running on Ultra when I build my new box tonight  :D

I think the Inquisitor is a successful medium between the Warden personality (player made) with Hawke's colorful one.

This is the first time a voiced character truly feels mine.

The only thing I have noticed is sometimes I'll pick a response that seems tame and somewhat agreeable but when the VA delivers the dialogue she sounds harsh and just down right mean.

Perfectly describes how I feel.  I feel like the Inquisitor is an actual character within the world, but I also have a lot of say in what kind of character he is.

She surprised me a few times by yelling. I didn't equate stoic to harsh snapping!

On that note, does DA:I use the conversational personality building system from DA:2? That was the most interesting aspect of the previous game.
