I read that you can meet with sten to make an alliance with the qunari and if you bring iron bull or if you are a qunari mage it automatically fails,meaning we meet sten in-game, but no one's mentioning sten OR the qunari at all, anyone have info on this?

Yup he is and from what I read if you are Qunari mage he won't even talk to you...but he will talk to elf/human mage.
