You really should go play Dragon Age Origins just because it's great. I had fun in DA:2 but it wasn't nearly as good. The story stunk and the individual characters weren't nearly as interesting, other than Varric. However, their interaction between each other was great. All you really need to know for it as far as the premise of Inquisition is that the Circle Mages are fighting to break free of the Chantry and Templars.
Is it OK to play without having played the first two?

You could play it I guess. But always say to anyone who wants to play a game thats halfway through a series: Play the previous ones first. Or at the very least, watch a lets play on youtube or something. But a bioware RPG? Definately play the previous ones, as lets plays may not pick the choice you wouldve opted for. You'll get by, but i think you miss the context of some events, characters wont mean anything and you lose some of the world if you dont play them. I will always regret watching a bit of ME2 before playing ME1. when the Normandy got destroyed i didnt care less. It was just a ship. But if i'd played ME1 first and realised how awesome the Normandy was, I wouldve been like Noooooooooo!
Thats my advice anyway. What you do with it, is up to you ![]()

And then they ruined that moment by giving the Normandy right back. They also destroyed what made the Normandy special. (They did the same with Shepard too!)
