I maxed out Dorian's friendship, did all his quests on the war table, and still his personal quest "Last Resort of Good Men" never showed up.  I talked to the Mother till I was exhausted from clicking.  She clearly is not giving me the quest letter ever.

Is it possible the quest not showing up could be a ps4 related glitch?  I really need to know more about how to trigger it, and if there are any ways to lock yourself out of it.  Any help from the dev's or anyone with solid information would be greatly appreciated.  I'm about to start a second game (tonight or tomorrow) and want to make sure I don't miss out on Dorian's content a second time.

I'm having the same issue and I'm on PC. I got all the other personal quests so it's really bugging me not being able to trigger it.

I did some testing and managed to get the quest to trigger.

During the quest "Here Lies The Abyss" after the part that's in Storm Coast and I returned to base, I talked to Dorian and there was a scene I somehow missed the first time. Right after I saw it, Mother Giselle appeared in the main hall area with the quest.

Edit: Maybe I spent too long out of the base and his approval got too high so it bypassed the scene the first time. Not sure, but it's the only thing I can think of. Unless the scenes are timed. -shrugs-

Edit 2: upon further testing, I think the dialogue option asking Dorian about Alexius must not have been viewed. Sadly I accidently saved over the file I was using to test ininstead of loading. LIke a nub.

Triggered the quest without going to Storm Coast. Talking to him he comments on how you judge Alexius. Then there's the option to ask further. Not choosing that and the exiting the dialogre triggers the scene once you talk to him again. The you can get his quest.

I feel I've written this in a confusing way, but hopefully it works for others who didn't get his personal quest.

Ok based on what you've said I tested it out and think I found the solution. Right after getting to Skyhold I talked to Dorian, left the area, and came back so I could judge Alexius. Afterwards I talked to Dorian and he brought it up, then I exited the convo at the first opportunity. I left the area AGAIN, came back, spoke to him, got the scene and Giselle was in the main hall with the quest. So the bug here is after judging Alexius, DO NOT ask Dorian further about it because it locks his quest for some reason, hope this helps, thanks for your work man!

Is it possible that judging alexius might be the lock point?  so you should try to get his quest before sitting on the throne maybe?

You could try that, but I think Legolas08100 is right.

I'd test it, but like I said, saved over the file. I have another character I'm playing . When I get to that part I'll double check if you haven't got it already.

Thanks for all the help!  I've started a new game so I am not that close to skyhold yet, but I'm working my way there.  I'm super glad I have a better grasp of how it works.  I'm so hopping I can get this quest this time.  -crosses fingers-

So this really seems like the reason? And not fixable? Ugh. I do remember mother Giselle being there at some point and she must have disappeared after I judged alexis and talked to Dorian. A whole 10 hours before that is my save - just before the big bad arrives. Probably going to have to go back and do that - thank god in those 10 hours I've barely progressed in the main story though.

So wait, I have to judge Alexius for this? I chose to save the Templars so i never did the quests that would lead you into siding with the mages. How the heck am I supposed to access Dorian's personal quest now?

Sooo... I just came to Skyhold.

Talked to Dorian. He was just rambeling.

Then talked to Giselle in the garden. Random rambeling.

Should I now judge Alexius... Or do I have to wait till AFTER I recieve the letter from Giselle before I judge Alexius? I am very confused... I cannot find Giselle in the main hall.

I already got the talk from Josephine about the jugding. But I said I wanted to wait till later. I have done nothing with the jugding yet.

Great, I was wondering why I had gotten no quest from him. So I missed both his and Blackwall's personal quests. Not going back 30 hours of gameplay :P

Ughh I did all of this and it still didn't work :( I triggered the scene after Alexius' punishment though (it was triggering whenever I spoke to him next) and I tried doing it in a different order etc but still nothing.

Does the quest 'one less venatori' have any impact on this?

So I got Dorian's quest.  Here's how I did it.  As soon as I got to Skyhold I talked to everyone including dorian as everyone has a little scene when you first get to Skyhold.  I left to another area, then reloaded and got another scene with Dorian.  I lost track of how many times I did this really, but I kept doing that till he talked to me about Felix dying (and trying to help the inquisition).  After that I loaded another area again then went back to skyhold-and the Mother finally gave me the note.  You DO NOT have to judge alexius first, and I still believe that could be what locks off the quest even.

Here's what I found.

Before judging Alexius I talked to Dorian until he said nothing new and left the area. Came back and talking to him triggered the scene, and Giselle in the main hall. I tried both ignoring "have you talked with Alexius" and clicking on it. Both ways triggered the scene. However if I failed to earn any approVal with him, the scene would not trigger, nor would the option about Alexius be in his dialogue.

Next I tried judging Alexius. First, I talked to Dorian to exhaust all options including asking about Alexius. Then I went to judge, and came back and the scene triggered. I also wanted to try talking to Dorian then judging and then asking more about Alexius, but it didn't get that far as the scene triggered before I could do that, haha.

Then I tried getting no approVal in his initial conversations, then judging Alexius, then trying to trigger the scene. No scene. I want to try gaining some approval after that and seeing it it triggers, but I don't have time right now.

As far as I can tell you need some approval or nothing happens. Perhaps the bug appears after getting too much.

For those who don't know, Mother Giselle will appear in the main hall for the quest. As soon as the scene about Felix is triggered you should be able to see the exclamation mark on the mini map.

Oh, and I have the quest Here Lies the Abyss started. And I did not do his quest "one last venatori." It'S not even in my quest log.

Might test further later.

Edit: just had to try one more thing before leaving, because this should have been obvious to me.
Judgin Alexius before talking to Dorian at all, then talking to Dorian until nothing new. Had to leave the area, but the quest still triggered.

I can't seem to recreate the time it didn't trigger for me, I guess just try getting it before doing anything else once you get to Skyhold. Leave the area and come back if it doesn't trigger, and make sure you got a few positive approval gains from him.

I've been going through my save from Skyhold doing everything everyone has suggested to try and get the quest to trigger. The only thing I can think of now is that I talked to Dorian too much at Haven - I'm pretty sure I remember asking him about Alexius then.

I knew when I got about 35 hrs in and didn't get this quest that something was off. I went back to a previous save before I judged Alexius, talked to Dorian, left the area, and the quest still wouldn't trigger. I tried juding Alexius, talking to Dorian about it, leaving the area, still nothing. I tried judging Alexius and not talking to Dorian, leaving the area... NOTHING. Basically I've tried every variation of talking to Dorian/not talking to him, gaining approval/not gaining approval, and this quest still never triggered. I even started Act 2 completely over once! I'm pretty upset about it, honestly. I invested quite a bit into my Inquisitor/Dorian romance, and I know I can't continue playing until a patch fixes this.

I feel very certain that the trick to getting Dorian's quest relies on talking to Dorian, leaving skyhold (different map hiterlands perhaps), and going back to Skyhold and talking again...continue that pattern till you see the mother show up in the main hall of skyhold and gives you the letter.

This must be done when you first get to skyhold!  I've yet to hear of anyone triggering his quest later in the game.  (though hopefully that will be patched later on!?!?)

I've been having the same issue (on PC) and here's how I solved it.

So, the problem that never let me show the quest "Last Resort of Good Men" nor Felix's letter scene was related to the answer I chose when I first arrived to Skyhold. Remember the cutscene in which the Inquisitor raises the sword and is praised by the crowd? The answer that must be chosen is "Corypheus must be stopped". Thanks to that you will get a lot of approval from Dorian.
As far as I'm concerned, the problem doesn't involve the approval level, nor how many times you flirted with him nor Alexius' judgement (because I managed to get his quest with an Inquisitor who was romancing Cullen and that had never spoken with Dorian in Haven)

If you have chosen THAT answer at the arrival, to get Felix's letter cutscene you must:
- Talk to Dorian
- Change area
- Go back and talk to him again and the scene will trigger.
Once you get that scene Mother Giselle will be in Skyhold's main hall with the quest.

p.s. It may happen you don't have that answer AT ALL. If you don't then load a previous save and, at the refugee camp, when you speak with Mother Giselle, choose an answer that shows you have faith in Andraste/the Maker.

Hope this helped :)

Having had this problem, I can confirm that the following worked:

> Reload to just before destruction of Haven

> Play through to reaching Skyhold (I selected the "we must stop Corypheus" option)

> On reaching Skyhold, I spoke to whom I liked, including Dorian (who had no additional dialogue at this stage).  I then unlocked and fast travelled to Crestwood, walked around for a bit (reached the village) and returned to Skyhold.

> I spoke to Dorian and the letter scene triggered.  On finishing the conversation, Giselle was downstairs in the hall with the quest.

Unfortunately, it seems this quest needs to trigger early on after reaching Skyhold; as to whether or not it relies on other dialogue options is unclear, although I have to say that judging Alexius seems to have had no bearing on it (as I haven't judged him at the reload, and whatever I did in my immediately-pre-Alexius prior save couldn't trigger the scene).

I hope someone on the development team sees this. Do you think when they patch this issue up (as well as the party banter bug), that we'll be able to start this quest at anytime? I'm 75 hours into the game and i don't want to start over from the beginning!

If you have chosen THAT answer at the arrival, to get Felix's letter cutscene you must:
- Talk to Dorian
- Change area
- Go back and talk to him again and the scene will trigger.
Once you get that scene Mother Giselle will be in Skyhold's main hall with the quest.

I've tried this solution, and it's not working. Can you confirm how much you played between getting Dorian and getting Skyhold and if you had spoken to him at all in between? I'm wondering if me blowing all the dialogue options back at Haven (including one about Alexius) is what's causing the hiccup?

Good news, bad news.

The bad: Sadly guys i think it's not fixable till a patch, unless you have a save from before you sentenced Alexius you can/are willing to go back to. Unfortunately for me mine is long gone.

The good: They are aware of the bug and it is being worked on,

So fingers crossed it'll be soon. Personally I'm abandoning my male Dalish Mage til it gets fixed and i can romance that mustache :) Thankfully I'm perfectly happy just work on a different playthrough for a while

I guess that's the thing for me, I JUST got to Skyhold and haven't done any of that, but it's STILL not triggering. He's extra flirty with me too, so I doubt my Approval isn't high enough (and from the sounds of it, you don't need much approval to trigger this to begin with.)

This hit me on my second playthrough. I don't really have saves to test repro steps but I'm check a few things. The first is progression. I had not done the Winter Palace and thought that, perhaps, moving forward and having a "new" Skyhold state might reset Giselle or maybe mess with whatever flags Dorian's got triggered. Alas, it was not to be. Moving forward doesn't seem to make a difference.

I've looked at my other character and by the same time, I'd gotten the quest to trigger and complete. So I went back and looked at an old save. Somewhere between the Palace and first entering Skyhold, I got the quest to start. But for the life of me I cannot figure out what the initial trigger was. I should probably sit and do some regression type stuff but I do enough of this as a day job and having this bug pop up during what was going to be my "canon" playthrough is a bit of a motivational stopper.

Basically, I can confirm what people are saying on one front. Some of this has to do with your actions when you first find Skyhold. But I can add that moving Skyhold into the next "state" after the Palace doesn't alter anything. And I just...can't even figure out the base requirements to trigger the quest right now. I'd guess approval, like anything else. A key difference seems to be if you hear about Felix dying or not? If you miss that, you appear to be SOL. But I can't be sure.

Whatever the case, I'd like to see a fix to this soon.
