So, in the spirit of kicking things off, I'm at a crossroads on my next unlock. I'm trying to choose between the Hunter and the Alchemist. What do you guys who have unlocked them think of the characters?

Ive been having fun with the hunter. He starts off with an ability where you mark a location, and are tethered there (just visuals) for a duration or until you return to your mark by pressing the button. When you hit return, you teleport back to that location and it resets your health value to what it was when you threw the mark down.
Its like an reset button, but the world doesnt reset with you.
But favorite? Currently, arcane warrior. I really enjoy swapping between roles as needed. Need a tank? got it. Sit back and snipe enemies out? Check. Prevent enemies from advancing with pull of the abyss? Done.

Alchemist is by far my favorite class in the game. I have hunter but haven't played as him yet though.

Hunter is alchemist with bows. I MUCH prefer the hunter to be honest, the damage he can put out is insane (those grenades + explosive shot + leaping shot + full draw!). The alchemists ONLY saving grace is her fire elixir. Fire elixir + grenades can REALLY mess a group of enemies up if used correctly. Overall I would say the hunter is better, but thats just me.

Here's a discussion prompt I meant to include in the OP.
What characters surprised you guys? For me, it was the Assassin. I found her armor after my first couple of games, amd didn't expect to like the character very much. I quickly fell in love though, both with the massive damage output and great voice acting.

Necromancer is pretty good. Add a mod to your staff you can eat up 4% health or more per enemy kill, while spreading a DoT that when finishes, or when you decide to detonate it, damages and spreads to near by enemies, which causes the DoT on them, then explode also when they die or it runs out. Causes some gnarly chain reactions that basically heal you to full

I've grown to really love the Reaver. I got lucky and nabbed a ~230DPS greatsword, so that helps. I run with Rampage, the roll, Dragon's Rage, and Devour. Dragon's Rage is insanely strong, depending on my current HP level I average around 800-1250 per hit with it, and can pretty much spam it all day long. Devour helps keep my HP non-critical, and I pop Rampage whenever it's going to be a tough fight, or my HP hit 40-50%. Couple swings with Dragon's Rage and I'm right back to full. I grabbed the roll simply so I'd have an escape ability. Reaver might hit like a truck, but it's also pretty squishy.
Anyway, I was looking at Hunter or Alchemist for my next unlock as well, so the comments here are great. I might go Alchemist first simply because I have a pair of lvl 20+ daggers, but my best bow is only around level 10.
