@GourdTwitch

To be fair, a lot has changed since just a few days after the release of the game.  At the time, Fade Cloak provided little value for the other mages.  It was not until recently that players have discovered all of the bonus effects not listed in the description of Fade Cloak and learned how to maximize its potential.  Only experience can provide such evidence and it was obvious with only 3 days of experience that this would be limited.  Also, your comment adds nothing to this topic as you did not state how/why Fade Cloak is useful for the other mages.  Love those critiques without any support.

That being said, I have recently come to appreciate Fade Cloak on my a Keeper and Elementalist due to providing a window to cast other skills and instantly recover from negative effects like knockdown and panic.  In most cases it is still considered a 4th skill so it is certainly not required for any mage other than the Arcane Warrior.  While Cirvante could likely expand on his previous comment at this time, it still holds true since "the only character who really needs Fade Cloak is the Arcane Warrior."  For the other mages it is simply an option that can be swapped based on the specific build.

I have Fade Step on my Arcane Warrior, to dash in and out of melee. While Fade Cloak is useful for the Pull of the Abyss combo, I find the immense mobility from Fade Step to be too huge to pass up.

I have Fade Cloak on my Keeper, so I can ignore mobs when I want to put down a barrier, or revive someone. Also useful for ignoring the Demon Commander's panic attack.

Is Fade Cloak usefull when reviving?

It is if there's an enemy in the immediate vicinity. I've revived teammates quite a few times in risky situations just because of it.

Anyone knows whether or not Frost Step counts are "persistent cold spell"? Or better yet, does hanging around those affected by Frost Step - chilled - trigger Ice Armor?

Fade/Frost Step gives you a huge movement speed bonus for 2s and allows you to move through enemies/chilling them.  It can be used to enter/exit an encounter, to move from one location to the next, or even to slow down enemies setting them up for another ability or to revive someone.

Fade Cloak/Blast has no movement speed bonus but does make you invulnerable for the 2s duration and it also allows you to pass through enemies.  Apparently it will allow you to instantly recover from a knocked down state as well.  If upgraded, it will allow you to deal a significant amount of damage to an enemy but you need to be standing next to them before activating it since it will not allow you to travel very far.  This is best used on the Arcane Warrior since Spirit Blade requires close proximity to enemies.

Both skills have their merits but Fade Step is better overall due to its immense utility, whereas Fade Cloak is situational but incredibly effective in those situations.

I couldn't have put it better myself.

I would highlight that I find Fade Cloak useful on Arcane Warrior with Pull of the Abyss, but Frost Step is also useful in the same situation AND closes the gap easier, with no mana cost.

I think the best time to take Fade Cloak is if you're facing Demon Commander [It is THE best *spell* to deal with Demon Commander, joint with other invulnerability abilities. Frost step is good but if you're lagging you'd still get hit.]

Another time I'd take Fade Cloak over Frost Step is if I desired more burst damage, which is often the case with Arcane Warrior.

It's always a close pick between the two, though. And I have taken both in the past for the immense utility they provide.

Fade Cloak is nice on some keepers to preserve your Winter Stillness boost (mana regen, cooldown reduction when standing still).  Using Fade Step requires standing still another 3 seconds to begin getting the boost.

I wouldn't use Fade Cloak just for Winter's Stillness.  While the mana and cooldown recovery are nice they are simply not worth investing in Fade Cloak to maintain.  Besides, using Fade Step and repositioning only loses you 2.5s cooldown and a minimal amount of energy; hardly noteworthy.  And to be honest you Fade Cloak to reposition, deal damage or recover, all of which require moving.

Oops. I meant frost step vs fade cloak.

Mods can you fix the title.

I haven't played MP yet, but have used both Fade Step (with the upgrade) and Fade Cloak (with the upgrade) in SP mode as a Knight Enchanter Mage.  Fade Step is much more useful, especially in closing with an enemy.  It can even freeze and damage an enemy (not immune to that SE), when upgraded.  Fade Cloak is more of a situational ability and shines against larger targets; Revenants, Giants and Dragons for example.  In SP mode, the Fade Cloak upgrade does 1000% weapon damage when you de-cloak.
