Hi everyone. I've been trying to put together the romancing options and their makeup, and get a better look at the companions and advisors and their views and how relationships develop. I have a basic overview that is missing a lot of detail so I need some input, would love to get some help and hopefully build a comprehensive romancing guide.

Updating this since I've started adding all character approval options in conversation. Also a heads up that, according to twitter, you can track companion approval level by their cards.

Looks nice so far!

Do you know if approval changes in a romance? I haven't gained or lost approval from Blackwall since I committed to him and I did things I know he has approval changes for, like Memories of the Grey or the Adamant quest.

Meanwhile, Solas and I were good friends and then I lost approval from him and he's standoffish again.

It makes me a bit anxious, as I haven't triggered his second quest yet, and I can't tell if that's an approval thing or if I just keep advancing the story or...?

That is an excellent question! I'm actually not sure how compromised choices, I'm currently busy tracking every choice in dialogue to see + and - in friendship stages, but I'll research and of course hopefully people here in the forums can help too.

Takes a while to type everything in xD

For sera, The Verchiel March is another quest that is important to her.

Does anyone know what quests are important for Josephine? I'm just before "In Your Heart Shall Burn" and have used 2 out of 2 romance dialogue options when they were available.

I've gotten a few PMs for people with new info, I'm adding it now :D
@ShieldWarden - Josephine's personal quests are:

  • Heraldry From a Herald (Gift opportunity)
  • Of Somewhat Fallen Fortune
  • An Unexpected Engagement

I will be adding these to wiki shortly :)

What's the point of another DA wiki when there's already one with hundreds of contributors and thousands of hours of work?

Seems like a completely pointless way to split efforts.

Simple: I'm part of a community of RPG players that like to make wikis as part of our enjoyment of the game - we like the discovery and in-depth that happens with making guides. People were asking to make an Inquisition wiki since many of our contributors don't like wikia's navigation or their "push everything under one URL".

I don't think variety is bad, and you can use whichever site you prefer at your leisure :)

Hey, are you the same Fexelea from the Fextralife wiki site/forums? I use that wiki for all my Dark Soul needs. I know you from the Fextralife forum. HI! *waves*

The current DA wiki is most dead when it comes to info from this game. Fexelea and company update their wiki as they played the game. It will probably have more information faster then the current wiki.

Update: Checking the Fextralife Inquisition wiki, it already has more information about the game. Check it out. For example, they already have all the skill tree up on the wiki. The main wiki still doesn't have the skill trees up.

Further update that I added all the quests everyone sent me! It should be easier to understand romance start points and some basic approval ratings now :)
The enormous task of all dialogue is in progress

Thanks for putting this together.  Its wonderful to see something that helps improve the gameplay experience rather than endless complaining.  Looks like I swung and missed on the first major quest choice with regards to Sera, so I'll have my work cut out for me moving forward.  Oh well.  Sometimes its more fun when you really have to work at it.  Again, thanks.

Updating that I have added a lot more info and people have been adding specific approval ratings from conversations and such. If anyone has specific info that is missing I would love to hear about it!

Some of the information you have is wrong. For example, you don't have to agree with Cassandra's religious views or her ideals in order to romance her. I'd imagine its the same for any other companion, you simply need a sufficient approval rating and to pick the romance dialogue options.

Well of course, but her approval choices are aligned with her view of the world (you have to do x or y with the mages if you'd like her approval, for example) - I thought that "Players looking to romance Cassandra must relate to her Faith and her quest to restore Order." would be indicative of the overall alignment that works for romancing this character, do you have other recommended phraseology?

I figured this would as good a place as any to ask this.  I'm about three story missions from completion and I am having a heck of time trying to get Sera's romance to trigger.  Based on what I've read, my approval is still too low, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good approval padding quests and or decisions.  Right now I'm debating reloading before the end of the ball, and going all in for Joesphine, saving  Sera for my second spin where I'll have a better idea of what I'm doing.

Some context: My Inquisitor is female (which would otherwise be the obvious problem).  So far I've done the Verchiel March at full approval, the prank quest, the cookie quest, and every available Red Jenny mission.  I missed on the Hushed Whispers decision, but since then I've gotten best case scenario out of every story choice.  Her card's turned to the "good disposition" picture.  I also took her through several Hinterlands quest that seemed to generate minor approval.  Any suggestions would be welcome.

Approval doesn't only come through dialogue though. I disagreed with her on basically everything regarding the chantry, and also freed the mages. (lost quite a bit of approval) But I was able to make positive gains elsewhere, either through random quests or more importantly her seeker target quest. Each of the 5 kills gives you a "greatly approves" and "approves". I ended up killing 3/5 for the full romance, 4/5 just to have a little extra approval. The only reason I even bothered to mention this was because a lot of people seem to be under the impression you have to agree with her/do what she approves of in order to romance her. Keep in mind I'm not being critical for the sake of being critical, but to help you make a better guide.

Also, agreeing with her ideals and faith will the majority of the time end up with her becoming the divine, which is a different romance ending than if you had another candidate become the divine - which isn't possible if you agree with Cass on the chantry, or the mage/templar choice when it comes to conscription vs freedom.

Jaron what I am trying to say is that what is phrased is that those looking to romance should relate to her ideals. Why would you want to romance someone who you do not agree with in the most basic and fundamental views?

Anyway, terminology aside, you haven't said how you rather this be phrased. Nowhere does it say that her approval is tied to dialogue, and there's an approval page dedicated to her approval specifically relating to quest choices. So what would you like to change?

Fexelea, this is a great guide, thank for putting time and effort into it.

One thing that bothers me though is one of the conversations with Cullen.
This one:
"... It may be the key to stopping this, but there isn't much time."
If I can help, I will. (+2)
Will helping save me?
Do I have a choice?(-2)

This looks suspiciously like the conversation you have with Cass in the prologue, yet its listed in Cullen's dialogue.

Edit: forgot how to write "suspiciously", sorry :D

That is def from the Cassandra dialogue! It was supposed to change to "example answer (+2)" etc to give editors an idea of how to format but somehow we left the dialogue instead xD

Thanks for the heads up I'll fix it now!

And if you find anything else missing please feel free to add. <3

I finally locked in the Sera romance.  This guide was extremely helpful and thank you.  The only feedback I can think to provide is that completing certain story missions will preclude romance (at least with Sera) if the romance is not locked in before hand.  On my playthrough, the romance option for Sera disappeared after "What Pride Hath Wrought" and would not initiate after "Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts." I backtracked about seven hours before "Wicked Hearts," farmed approval for about an hour, and it initiated. I'm guessing BW gated the romance narrative because your LI needs to respond main story events, but the crux of this is one should not rush through the story missions if the romance is not locked in.

Anyway, I hope that was (or will be) helpful for someone else in a similar situation. Thanks again for putting this together and making this easier.  This is exactly why I keep coming on the boards.

Is there a required amount of hitting the Love notes on the conversation screen for the romance to be initiated? Can I safely skip some, and if I can, which ones? This is an important question for me, because sometimes I feel like the moment is just not right for my Inquisitor to flirt and yet I am kind of afraid that if I don't pick the Love notes the romance will be void with the character I want.

I'm glad it helped and thank you for the heads up. I will be adding this asap! (With a note of credit to you Ofc) - thank you for taking the time to write it!

This is a very good question and I believe a complex one, so I will have to investigate and get back to you. I know that flirting with Cassandra too early can get you negative points, for example, whereas with Cullen you aw safe to take everychance since he has no approval. But I'm uncertain where the exact point of no return are for any of them and I should find out. Help welcome!
