So...there is possiblity of romancing Cassandra and not having her becoming a Divine? I really like the romance subplot and I just can't stand a thought that I could lose her to Chantry.

So please tell me good people, is that possible?

I just finished a playthrough where I romanced Cass and Leliana became the Divine. Cass ends up staying with the inquisitor, as opposed to if she is elected which some say hints that the romance is ended.

You have to say/do some anti chantry things though, which means at the beginning her approval dips a little. Fortunately you have a quest that gives you "Greatly Approves" and "Approves" for each of the 5 people you kill. I ended up killing 3/5 before I could begin romancing her, 4/5 just to have a little safe room.

Here is a total of all my decisions:

Leliana Becomes Divine -

Free mages/Anti Chantry/Chantry Failed dialogue with Dorian, Vivienne, etc..

Freed mages at Redcliffe and made them my ally.

Did not let Leliana kill traitor at Haven.

Romancing Cassandra

Told Chantry representative I needed both Leliana and Cassandra (So far, do not see any operations at war table to support either candidate)

Sided with Celene at Winter Palace

Allowed Wardens to stay

Told Cassandra to forget about the seekers

Told Cassandra that what she wanted for the chantry was not what I wanted (I think this dialogue plays a key role as well.)

Told Cassandra that there were other ways to help the chantry.

Also told Cassandra to refuse in romance dialogue if she was chosen. (Don't know how big a role this plays as I believe I did it in my first playthrough and she became Divine then).

Told Leliana not to kill the cleric in her personal quest. (I'm not so certain at this point that having her hardened or not impacts her candidacy, as much as it seems to impact the sort of Divine she is. In a youtube video with her as divine, she was ruthless and killed a lot of the sects that rose up against her. In mine, she was able to peacefully get them to come together.)

Supported Leliana for Divine through dialogue with her. (2nd playthrough that I didn't have an operation on the war table for any candidate)

Let Morrigan drink from well

It seems to me that the biggest factor in this is your dialogue throughout the game regarding your views on the chantry. The talks with Dorian, Vivienne around the beginning. Leliana somewhere around the middle, and Cassandra as well seem to have the most influence. Actions such as freeing/conscripting play a role as well, but I don't think as much as these. The game seems to have "choice" dialogue whenever the topic of the chantry comes up with these characters, which is how I think they determine the end outcome. Other decisions such as those listed above seem to help, but ultimately I think it goes to how your inquisitor views the chantry.

I hope a guide for this comes out soon, I really would have rather had Cassandra since it seems like the most peaceful option from what I've seen of the epilogue. \:

I had a non hardened Leliana become the divine, and it explicitly said she was peaceful in her approach to bring everyone together. If she is hardened, and becomes the divine it mentions that the chantrys halls are filled with blood or something to that effect.

Well i think is also involved with skyhold, the way you upgrade, like if you choose a "military" or "healing", but anyway, the real chantry is they want to weak the inquisition,  think:  the inquisition was created against the chantry, by a chantry rebel,   the inquisition is becoming more powerful,  so what they do?  they keep away  leliana cassandra and dorian from the inquisitor, THEY ARE SCARED,  so if you ask me at the moment i'm choosing all options that can weak the chantry and i don't care about approval, YOU WILL RESIST , YOU WILL ALWAYS RESIST, IT MATTERS NOT.

Here are some of the decisions i made and why i was so satisfied with my ending.

Also remember that I played as a mage(in all dragon ages)

Romanced Josephine

Cassandra became divine (With my full support)

Celene stayed in power

Templars disbanded, Wardens banished (After anders and this? just became unforgivable lol)

Morrigan drank from the well. (I did not like the idea of my inquisitor being a servant of ANOTHER god, wanted him free)

I made it clear i did not support leliana to her face (I personally liked the way Cassandra said she would do things. Mages governing themselves BUT being guided and templars guard the innocent not the mages, the mages being completely free as leliana says would just be catastophic in my opinion)

And on the war table i never did the "Support Vivienne" she was a very promising leader but her worst fear as stated in the fade was "irrelevance" which just leads me to believe she cares more about being relevant then what's going on in the world, second in a conversation with her she reveals she does not know what it was like to be mistreated in the circle because of her rank and who she was with (powerful man) which makes me believe she wont see the original problems with the circles that started the rebellion. Then again, i suppose i think shes still better then leliana and i play a mage everytime lol, hard to see that many corrupted mages and let them run free

Cassandra got most of the templars OFF the lyrium which was the cause of corruption among templars and cullen is now leading the templars which in my opinion solidified cassandra being a GREAT decision for devine.

Leliana would have been considered in dragon age origins IMO when she was innocent but now her ideas are just awful, and the idea of a great spymaster let alone assassin being "Most Holy" is just absurd lol

Wait so if you get the option for the Divine for one character on the War table the option for another character will not show up?

I've never had an option for any candidate. I wonder if its a result of inconsistent viewpoints on the chantry? For my playthroughs I stuck to the same views, 1st being reform, 2nd being rebuild. Neither playthrough had a war table option.

I ended up romancing Cassandra, though she became the new divine with my help of course. So we could not continue our romance. We sided with the mages as allies. She offered to rebuild the circle of mage. They were more interested in becoming something similar to a college. I didn't banish the wardens. I thought I might need them.

Cass as Divine.

Freed the Mages

Supported Celene and told them to work together

Told the ambassador I needed them

Told Leliana the chantry was a sinking ship

Supported Cass in dialogue and war table and told her to rebuild seekers and was always agreeing with her.

Giselle cutscene was with Cass

Wardens stay

Morrigan drank

Unhardened Leliana

Also always played up the Herald of Andraste title and Maker stuff

Hey! I'd like to thank all of you and especially Jaron Oberyn for starting this topic as this is a big issue for me at least.

I am planning/currently on the road to romancing Cassandra and I've got that "completionist aspect". . . .

Needless to say I'm currently 50+ hours into the game and have just gotten to the Choosing the divine milestone (again, this is a big issue for me). I will restart the game because of my selfish smutty interests ;D if Cassandra becomes the new divine but obviously it would be a saving grace if I didn't need to, with all of your knowledge can someone (especially Jaron) help me identify most clearly who might end up as the divine. I am sincerely hoping Leliana will, it also helps I agree (personally) with her outlook of changing the Chantry if she becomes divine compared to Cassandra. So I'm basically completely against Cass becoming divine for romance and other reasons :C

I will list my choices thus far :

  • Intro sequence (In Haven) Dialogue: Supported Cassandra as much as possible for approval (kissed ass whenever possible).
  • Chose to help and absorb the Templars into my ranks (disbanding).
  • Skyhold crowning: Commented on being a servant of the faith for Cass approval.
  • Chose to gain leverage on Celene, Gaspard, and Briala and forced them to work together. Spared and sentenced her cousin to community service (The Elder One's puppet)
  • Mainly played as the "I believe I am the chosen" for roleplay purposes as my character thinks the world needs hope.
  • Told the Chantry woman it is up to Leliana and Cass to decide who becomes Divine.
  • Leliana undecided about it, doesn't know.
  • Had the Mother Giselle divine sequence with Cass.
  • Hinted that I am not approving of her becoming Divine as much as possible without being a radical either way and losing approval. (The dialogue during the Mother Giselle sequence while outside.) - Told Cass to just say no if she doesnt want it, however I did do the romance option in that dialogue supporting her determination.
  • Directly afterwards in new conversation about HER wanting to be divine I told her there are other ways to support the Chantry.
  • No War Room Map operations have appeared as of yet.

Alright, so considering all of that could someone please enlighten me of the future dialogues about the divine I will have and if there is a chance Cass will not be divine. I am fairly certain at this point she will, but if I can do Leliana's personal quest I'm hoping that would initiate another dialogue about the topic and also doing Cass's personal quest and romancing I heard you can tell her to say no if chosen to be divine through a romance option, is this true?

Basically, what is the likelihood of Cass becoming divine and do I still have a chance to change it either way?

If the likelihood is very high I will regrettably make a new game and what steps do all of you think from then will solidify Leliana as becoming the divine?

Thank you all for any help!

I seem to have an option to Support Vivienne as the next divine on my war table .-. I was hoping to make it Cassandra. I was gonna do Leilianna at first but she becomes ~extremely~ dark in my playthrough, particularly after her story quest and getting back from the uh....place...and the message that I got for her when I came back which seemed to have the opposite affect I assume it was intended to.

I supported Celene and kept everyone alive and sided with mages the whole way and was very anti-religion, so that Vivienne is the candidate seems odd. The mission to support her as Divine popped up after a conversation I had with her about her suggestion that Cassandra would make the best candidate, so double weird. Bug, maybe?

I have that too. Didn't do anything on it. Leliana asked me later about becoming a divine, I said no.

I wouldn't want Leliana to be the Devine.
Then it won't be possible for her to go back to Warden after taking care of Inquisition problems.

She deserves some rest and happy time.

I got Leliana as Divine

1)  Mages were given freedom.
2)  Saved Celene and spared Gaspard/Briala
3)  Morrigan drank from the Well.
4)  Wardens were not disbanded.
5)  I talked to both Cassandra and Leliana about becoming Divine and said to both that they'd make a good choice.
6)  Didn't tell Cassandra to disband the Seekers.
7)  My character took most of the 'I don't believe in any gods/I'm not the Herald' dialog.

I think it would swing it towards Leliana.

I did all of these so far except for 7 (I've been RP'ing an Andrastian Inquisitor for a change from my usual atheist characters). I've always thought so far that Leliana would be a better choice for Divine over Cassandra.

It seems that if she becomes the divine it does end, yes. She will always be a candidate no matter what. What determines if she wins however is your stance on the chantry (specifically with vivienne and dorian dialogues, a couple with leliana, and 2-3 with cassandra herself).

@Wuulfpack - Glad I could help. Unfortunately it seems Cass might be the divine based on your choices. Like you, my first playthrough I was worried about approval when romancing her thinking I needed it. So she became the divine because I essentially agreed with her stance on the chantry, and when she outlined her ideals for the future (a big convo). The romance option supporting her determination doesn't conclude that portion of the dialogue, after choosing it you still get to choose one of the 3 other choices that closely resemble your views on the chantry. However if throughout the game you've been supporting chantry reform rather than free mages/rebuild it won't matter. My first playthrough I voiced support for Leliana and even told Cass to refuse the divine appointment, but because these play a little role compared to the stances throughout the game the way the world was setup through my chantry views she was the choice.

To make sure Leliana becomes the divine, essentially do what I did at the top of page 3. This was my second playthrough, romanced Cass and ended up getting Leliana as divine through the choices I listed above. Hope this helps. :)

As for the person who mentioned the operation, that is still a mystery to me. Neither of my playthroughs had a war table mission. I'm curious if it arises due to inconsistencies of chantry viewpoints, which doesn't give the game a clear directive on what the player actually supports of the 3 choices. That's just a theory though.

Thank you Jaron Oberyn for the assistance!

As of this moment I have just deleted my character (much to my dismay) and although it is frustrating, I feel so relieved I can do things better this time at least.

Looks like I will just have to save face and not kiss Cassandra's ass and role-play as someone who is more nihilistic. Also, one more question, can I follow your choice guide as aforementioned but instead of helping the mages; side with the templars and again disband them and still have Leliana as divine?

That choice is a big one with me personally because the aftermath of how that choice plays out you are left free mages, with Leliana and less murderous seeking templars as the order is no more. So the plot essentially removes the mage/templars war.

Thanks for the further help!

Pfft, I'm sitting at 320 now. It just kind of builds up when you're busy doing EVERY SINGLE QUEST there is. I'm anal-retentive like that.

I just thought of the idea of Cass and the Inquisitor having a secret son when she's Divine and the Inquisitor raising him among the orphans/recruits of the Inquisition.

Alistair greatly disaaproves

Morrigan greatly approves

@wuulfpack - I don't know. The reason freeing mages helps leliana more is because that's in line with her goals with being divine. So I can't say whether or not the Templar route would yield the same results as me.

Damn, looking at the choices and the results from them it looks like I'm going to have Cassandra as the Divine. I'm not done yet, but I'm about fifty hours in. Thankfully, there's always the Keep to tweak this choice.

I was thinking Mother Giselle was going to be the new Divine when we recruited her. Never thought they'd consider Cassandra, Leliana, and Vivienne until I got the dialogue after finishing up at the Winter's Palace.

Hopefully, at some point we get the 'formula' of how to make which character the Divine. I would like to see the results of making each one the Divine for different World States I have. I just didn't want my first playthrough where my Inquistor was romancing Cassandra to lose her when she becomes the Divine.

When I finish the game, I'll post my choices and the results.

So....I just finished my game. Cassandra WANTED to be the Divine but later decided to rebuild the Seekers instead, when I told her she had to make that decision for herself (I didn't say one way or the other). Leiliana wanted to be Divine and I told her I would NOT support it, but she ended up getting the throne anyway. Vivienne never suggested wanting it and actually was campaigning for Cassandra, but I got a War Table Mission to whisper into people's ears about Vivienne taking the throne, which I never did. Post-game, obviously, it has disappeared.

Mother Giselle would be a good choice. We could probably use a few more playthroughs with Templar choices, but I think the post at the top of the page seems to clear up how you can choose the divine you want. It's essentially your choices that affect the chantry, as well as how you express your feelings on them.

Dang, looking at the dialogue options you listed, I'm not sure which one's I chose. Since I think some of them happened so long ago in my 50 hour playthrough.

Told Cassandra that what she wanted for the chantry was not what I wanted. When did this conservation happen? After the Winter's Palace?

Thank you yet again Jaron Oberyn for all the help! I love Bioware games and how they bring the community together just with simple nitpick questions. :D

On another note, Grayvisions.

I'm intrigued by your outcome and would like to know your choices if possible.

Also, I agree Jaron, I would like to see more Templar choices as well and see how great a role that milestone plays.

I think it happened after I did her mission regarding the seekers. It was after the conversation where you could encourage her to leave the seekers behind or rebuild them. She basically talks about her ideal for the future, where the chantry reforms past mistakes but doesn't avenge them and how she doesn't know if her wanting these things makes them right. You can say you don't want those things, agree with her, or a third option. This is another big chantry decision.

@Wuulfpack - Anytime man, don't mention it. I haven't done the templar side so I don't know if the options are mirrors of the mages. If so whatever the equivalent of offering mages freedom/full allies is for them may have the same effect. Basically it has to be a choice that upsets the current chantry norms from the looks of it.
