Hey guys!

I am an old fan of Dragon Age: Origins and considering purchasing Dragon Age: Inquisition. My gripes about Dragon Age 2 weren't the combat system nor were they the lack of space to explore. While the latter bothered me, the former didn't affect me at all. My main gripe was that story wasn't really interesting and was pretty predictable. I thought the Mom storyline(I don't want to give spoilers but I think anyone who played it knows what I am talking about) was well done but I felt like it was too short and was a much more of a guided experience than Dragon Age Origins. Also I felt that the amount of interesting characters in Dragon Age 2 was lacking. However, I felt like the few of them that were interesting were really interesting. Dragon Age 2 and Origins both had some dark stuff, but I think that 2 had slightly more impacting stuff. I liked the dark emotion in Dragon Age 2 but I enjoyed the choices and several stories merging into one of Dragon Age: Origins.

Now a lot of people like the changes made to make it more open ended and I will probably as well. However, I am old Morrowind player and found Skyrims landscape a bit too boring. In order for open world to be interesting its environment must not only be beautiful but interesting as well. I know someone is going to bring up this point, but its only relevant for me if the world seems foreign.

Now I know this is Bioware forum so this might be a trap, but should I buy the game BASED on that information?

The environments are varied and unique, so if there are some that you just can't get into, there might be others that you'll love (there are coasts, swamps, forests, plains, deserts, snowy mountains).

Can't really comment on the story as I'm really not far, but it's got better focus than DA2, that's for sure.  It's far more akin to Origins than DA2's story so far.

I'm not the best person to rec this game, since I'm only a few hours into this. So I can't speak for the story.

But in terms of gameplay, maps etc, this is pure gold. So far, I am loving it. Best game in the last couple of years.

The only problems I have with it are the mount and with the meshes if they are lower than High. The mount riding is VERY artificial and rigid, it's not as fluid as the walking. And if meshes are lower than high, for some stupid reason, the hair of the characters becomes very shiny. It's annoying because their hair becomes like something that came out of Lego.

Side note: Asking for opinions about a game in the game forum might not be the best idea, since the fanbase will be very biased. :P

Oh, you might find this awkward, but in this game you need to hold down left mouse button or R  to attack. This might be confortable for controller, but for keyboard/mouse is kinda awkward. I got used to it but still...

It's difficult to give you an assessment of a lot of the things you might like, without knowing your tastes.  Personally, Dragon Age might be the best game I've played in a very long time.  Story, characters, environments, combat...all of it suits my tastes perfectly.  It's as close to a 10/10 as I can get when judging games.

Best with a PC and X-Box controller. Think Skyrim.

It feels closer to Skyrim.  It doesn't have that dragon age feel of the first two.  Maybe more like a Skyrim and Dragon age stew with dumplings.

I was glued the Dragon age 1 and 2, as well as the Mass effect series.  But with DAI, I feel I am just killing time.  It simply has no pull on me at all.

I will offer a differing opinion. The story is epic and wonderfull. It's a slow burn and you can spend a lot of time leading up to the story missions, but it is absolutely worth it. GOTY hands down for me on story alone.

I would also like to add, so much of the story can be bolstered/fleshed out by interacting with your different party members after different events, getting to know them. Each character have had different conversation trees that thoroughly interest me and/or made me laugh and these are just focusing on fleshing out the personality aspects of the different party members. Take the time to make emotional connections with them and the game will feel so real and weighty and rewarding.

Lots more exploration, main story about the same as DA2, side quests are terrible.

Side quests are really good, lots of small things too that have to do with lore or investigating things.

I do appreciate the replies(lots of differing opinions)! I did actually put my tastes in my OP if you still have an opinion and can judge based on that.
