Positive, 'professional' reviews got me again, just like with DA2 (I did enjoy ME3 though).

My issues with the game after having completed it.

1) The main story-line can be completed in under 15 hours if you avoid sidequests (took me 17 with random sidequests here and there).

2) The ratio of side-quests to the main plot is ridiculous.  It felt like I was playing a single-player mmo, (where the majority of side-quests are fetch quests).

3) I haven't started a second game, but I get the feeling that my decisions don't really matter and that the conclusion to the game would be largely the same regardless of my choices (contrasted against an older RPG like the Witcher 2, where you could miss HALF the game because of your choices - now that's roleplaying.  Witcher 3 is supposed to have over 30 different endings...)

4) The main storyline is TERRIBLE.  Felt like I'd already heard this story with the Oblivion gates... Only I can save the world - blah, blah, blah - constant RPG tropes.  I expected more from Bioware.

5) Controls are brutal on PC - I realize this dead horse has already been beaten... but even the controller setup ain't great.  My ranged units still just sit there firing arrows into the distance while getting pummeled by melee enemies.

6) The romance plot-lines are ridiculous - poorly written fanfiction is what they remind me of.

7) Unintuitive UI and menu after menu after menu.

8) A closed 'open' world where I'm constantly trying to find out how the hell to get past invisible barriers.  The world just feels like a crap-ton of beautifully created corridors that funnel me in random directions.

Tons of other issues I had with the game, but honestly, feels like regression on Bioware's part - like they're now chasing the RPG industry rather than innovating.  I enjoyed DA:O, but even that game paled in comparison to BG2.  I also enjoyed ME for its storyline/setting, but this team that's been working on the past 2 Dragon Ages... my word.  It's like they've never played any of the games that made Bioware the RPG standard in the first place.  Compared to the ME series, that series felt connected throughout its iterations.  Choices truly mattered game-to-game, while here?  Blights and Breaches and personal stories in between - there's hardly any connection at all - it's like Bioware is just throwing random plot-lines and mechanics at the wall and seeing what sticks, with a few dragons thrown in here and there to justify its namesake.

The KillScreen review on Metacritic is the only that really hits on most of my qualms with the game, and even that review was far to generous in my opinion with its 75% score.  While I'll be in the minority here, I wouldn't give this game higher than a 5/10.

PC port sucks and yet all the PC gaming reviews give it an excellent score with no mention of the idiotic mouse and keyboard controls, what a bunch of sell outs as usual.

To each their own, I guess. I was captivated by the ending of the first act, storywise. Whatever. A few bugs on the PS4 really doesn't bother me, nor are they game-breaking. I''m twenty hours in and just now running around Skyhold....and that was finishing a decent amount of the Hinterlands (didn't barely touch the Storm Coast aside from recruiting Iron Bull) and the only reason I kind of rushed that was because I wanted to romance Dorian. Crap, the companion conversations could take as long as fifteen - twenty min. Did you not talk to anyone at all? What's the fricking point of playing that way?

Damn, dude, if you wanted the ending that badly, you should have just Youtubed it.

I'll be finishing it, but my canon playthrough won't be made until after all these stupid bugs are gone. Getting really sick of having to alt+tab out to do anything at the war table.

As for the game. I like it a lot, but I can see why someone else wouldn't. I really, really think adding all those zones without anything to connect them beyond 'this is happening here, have at it' was a mistake. There needed to be more incentive to both visit and finish them, as frankly I just feel quite happy leaving the majority of them alone to rot.

Absolutely true, can agree in all points, especially the f***ing sidequests, terrible cr*p they are.

I can recommend you the review from 4players germany, they brought it to the point and gave 52/100. True score imo.

So far I like it. Story isn't the best but it's good enough for me. It doesn't bother me how quick I could beat the main plot alone cause I have no desire to skip everything else, it's part of the reason I like the game so far. Besides, I believe the ME games and Fallout 3 were all beatable in less than 20 hours with just the main plot.

I haven't noticed too many places I couldn't go due to invisible barriers or anything.

I haven't progressed far enough into a romance for that yet.

Hey, I loved skyrim but I always wished that its main story quests weren't such a bore. DA: I has made my dream come true.

Those average scores only show up after the game was released, I'm talking about those reviews before the released.

Yea I agree. Bioware wanting to really make this game like Skyrim caused some issues In my opinion

Game is still fun though I love the crafting and outfitting my companions in boss armor/weapons

I just wonder where the series will go from here and, also Bioware and the PC community

I don't hate the game, it just has some issues that I'd like to see addressed.  Facial animations being a big one.

I went back and replayed ME3, DA2, looked at how beautifully those faces were crafted with each of their own muscles.  And then I look at this game, and well...

*blink*  "My entire family just died.  Right in front of me.  Not even five minutes ago."  *blink blink*

What?

EDIT :   If someone could come along and tell me that I'm incorrect, or that BioWare has always done this, please do.

Thee game isn't good. I did somewhat enjoy DA2 despite all of its problems, but I couldn't get into DA:I.

Combat is an atrocious button mashing mess, it doesn't make a difference if you use KB+M or a controller. Don't even get me started on tactical mode.

The world is also full of boring filler content. No, I do not enjoy doing boring filler content like picking flowers, killing respawns, knocking off items on a to-do list for an achievement or to complete fedex and fetch quests.

Seriously Bioware, have you guys never played Baldur's Gate 2 before? Just look at how Athkatla is designed, THAT is how you design game content.

You can speed run most any RPG in 20 hour or less if you just do the main quest. YouTube have plenty of speedrun gamers uploading their stuff.

I am in no rush to fly through this game however and am enjoying it immensely.

The game isn't horrible, but the Hinterlands is. Unfortunately, the Hinterlands is huge.

Hinterlands is definitely a time sink. The respawning mobs makes it even worse when backtracking to clear up old quests etc.

Your opinion is yours of course, but I fail to see how you can build up enough power to go through all of the main quests in just 15 hours?

Im loving every minute of the game but its normal that some people dont.

Your comment about the romance being crap makes you lose credit however since its been done better than I previous DA games.

You sure it isn't just that PC game reviewers have all done time in MMOs?

PC port was shameful but I enjoyed the game immensely.

Was the story great? No. Was the gameplay perfect? Definitely not.

But it was fun, engaging, and touching (in some parts) and honestly it's what Bioware needs after Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2. This game proved they still got it even after the last 4 years.

Some, more like most of the PC players.
